    Thank you so so much for your updates, they have been so positive! ❤ I fly out on the 15th September and your post was the only one that stayed on the positive side. The island is relying on tourists and I'm happy to support them as I've been 3 times before and they have given me some wonderful memories... Here's hoping it recovers well in the coming week ❤

      Thanks for your comment, I’m sure the island will be glad to welcome you soon! Whilst not everything will be back to normal I’m sure you’ll be able to have a lovely time here and I know the community will be grateful for the support - safe travels 🤍

    Thank you Vicky - your videos are great. Positive, informative and sensistive to the difficulties that the island and it's residents are going through. I was on Skiathos the week before Daniel hit and it is so sad to see the damage, the clouded water and the lifted cobbles along Papadiamanti. I hope you managed to find a nice meal. If nothing else you can always rely on the resilence of the Greeks and a warm welcome. Take care and keep it up - you are a natural. If this isn't your career it could be 👍 👍

    Thank you so much for this. we are regular Skiathos visitors, and have been devastated by the news. we were there ourselves last month. UK news items and internet generally hasn't told us much, so your report is exactly what we wanted. Thanks again. Good luck for trip hone.

    Having visited Skiathos Town at the end of August 2023 for the first time we absolutely fell in love with the place. Watching the recent coverage on news channels, gave us the impression we might never get to return. So big thanks to Vicky for showing us the true picture, with the locals and island rapidly getting back to near normal.

    Thank you for the videos you've posted, probably the most useful source of information I've seen showing the situation on the ground. Still undecided about whether to go on 13th as I'm keen to support their economy to recover but I really want to experience the island as it should be so think I may take Jet2's offer to defer.

      Thanks for your kind comment - no problem! I wasn’t going to post further but thought this might help! I’d really say don’t let it put you off but entirely your choice - where abouts on the island are you due to stay? If you’re early on the bus stops the island is doing well, but it is struggling more further down 🤍

    Thank u ❤
    Indeed, for the Jet2 flights there will be no incoming flights till the 12th of september. This is probably the same for the rest of the package holidays.
    Mostly this is for getting space and places again for the guests to stay in. We have had so many hotels damaged and so many people stuck on the island, that we need time first to get everyone off and safe, before getting new people in.
    Thank you for supporting the Island and I hope you have had an amazing vacation🫶🏻

    We are now out for a meal and drinks in Skiathos town / port where fortunately I have had enough wifi to upload. Some businesses are struggling but the main port is doing very well and most are back open! Some of the middle / centre of the island has been hit harder so please contact your holiday providers / hotels to find out what it is like in specific areas - thoughts and best wishes with all🤍

    Hi Vicky and Bailey, Thanks for your updates - they have been very useful and informative. I have been to Troulos (La Luna) 3 times in the last 2 years and are scheduled to fly out on the 15th Sept. again to La Luna. Hopefully the conditions will improve , but I'm not sure what condition the pools and the beaches will be in. This is of minor importance when considering the devastation caused to many Greek businesses and family homes. As you said, tourists need top support the Greek locals. I only heard about the poor conditions from my Greek waitress friend, Evaggelia, who lives in Volos (also suffering huge devastation) a few days ago. Been keeping an eye on the situation ever since and your posts have been very useful. Have a safe flight back home. Best Wishes, David

    Excellent set of videos - we stay at the Asimina apartments next to the tennis club and were saddened to see the carnage especially on Papadiamantis Street where most of the restaurants and bars are. Knowing the Skiathos people, we have no doubt that they will be back up and running soon.

      Hi Vicky, we were in Skiathos in June of this year celebrating 25 years of visiting the island. We stay at Asimina Apartments which is run by Asimina's son George and they have said we have become part of their family so we feel their pain after these awful flood. We have been in constant touch for updates and apart from guests from the UK currently not being able to travel to the island, they suffered very minor damage and we shall be back with them next year. Keep safe. Paul @@vickyandbailey5840

      Hi, yes it is running! I’d recommend calling Costas to check in as the pool was flooded. The hotel has great flood defence in the wall which helped avoid damage but some of the lowest rooms did take in water. I’m sure you’ll be fine for your stay but would recommend contacting them directly first🤍

    Hi, I should leave on September 12th and stay about two weeks. Is there anyone who can tell me if the island will be accessible for tourism? I wonder if it's worth going since I intend to go around the beaches with a rented car 🤔

    • @vickyandbailey5840
      @vickyandbailey5840  ปีที่แล้ว

      The weather has massively improved now and the roads around the port are fine by car. Most roads I have seen are muddy but still usable and wouldn't be an issue driving over. Most trip providers have postponed until the 12th / 13th to allow for cleanup time, I think by then a lot will have improved further. I think you'll still have a great time here - we would have stayed longer if possible, today was beautiful!

    Please feature Agios Iannos, Volos and Larissa, Greece, for much more evidence of climate change destruction and devastation. Skiathos is nothing compared to those areas.

  • @שושכהן-ס6ק
    @שושכהן-ס6ק ปีที่แล้ว

    As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises?
    The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature's inner balance.
    We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us.
    It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us-whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit-because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us.
    No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other.
    If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature.
    In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other-from negative to positive.
