  • 🎞️ OTK CELEBRATES GILLARD KART WITH A DOCUMENTARY INTERVIEW
📰 Founder Tim Gillard looks back over the 40-year-life of the historic brand, now part of OTK Kart Group, with interesting anecdotes and trivia in a three-episode web miniseries
OTK Kart Group is pleased to introduce the three-episode web miniseries dedicated to Gillard Kart, a documentary interview with Tim Gillard, its founder, to celebrate the more than 40-year history of the famous English brand and to tell the steps that recently led OTK to incorporate it into its product range.
Founded in 1980, Gillard Kart achieved prestigious targets, reaching the peak of success in the new Millennium with three European championships (2001, 2004, 2005) and a World Championship (2005). Even today, it is the only British manufacturer to boast results of international standing at this level.
OTK Kart Group has been proudly carrying on the Gillard Kart legacy since 2021, following Tim Gillard's decision to retire and incorporating the historic British manufacturer into our product range.
In the first part of the documentary interview, Tim Gillard talks about his passion for engines and karting: his first contact with racing, the enthusiasms and ambitions that led him to create his own brand, the challenges and satisfactions he has achieved over the years as well as the many curiosities that enrich the history of the British brand.

I was driving Kart a few years ago. It was my absolute passion.

My Daughter and I both raced Gillard Chassis in 100 Britain in the late 80s, she in Juniors. Also bought a brand new pair of TT27s from Tim.

Know the feeling. I bought my first kart in 1977, I think. A Zip Bluestreak chassis from Charlie Goff (for £50). Was in the garage for years. We used to get it out and push it around, dreaming of beating Jackie Brown at Blackbushe (not even sure he went there)! LOL Then, in 1979 I bought a Sprint / K77 from a friend. Needed rebuilding... In the end, I bought a couple TG14s and started in 100 Britain in 1980. 4 novice races, 4 weekends on the trot!

Charlie Goff! Now there's a name! I used to love over going to his house in Elstow - 5 Pear Tree View? What a character Charlie was, a legend of Kimbolton! Going over on an evening, picking up a motor, watching Roger tuning a Rotax 256 in the garage, almost invisible in a cloud of cigar smoke! Great times...

Haven't seen Tim since I visited the factory in Stansted Mountfitchet in 1991... nevertheless I've been loyal to the Gillard brand since the mid 1980s... have two in the garage right now. Always beautifully engineered... OTK you have very large boots to fill !
