They still have to show up on the first day (in person), piss in a cup, and go through the appropriate paperwork. I want to know what drugs Trump is on. I want them to force him to get clean.

As a probation officer myself and one who writes presentence investigation reports, we interview the defendants but we don't supervise them. We have other POs that do but I live in Iowa and I suppose it can be different in other states. Each defendant has a large packet to complete that details their criminal history as well as employment, education, family, friends, residences, substance use, mental and physical health. We use risk assessments to attempt to predict the defendant's likelihood of committing new, violent and/ or property crimes and it's used to assign an initial level of supervision in the community. We use another assessment to analyze risk factors along with protective factors that could mitigate risk areas and that helps determine the category of probability of whether or not the individual would recidivate (fail on community supervision). It's our job to also verify everything the defendant tells us through collateral sources to make the final determination. We always get a national criminal history and we are not able to factor in pending charges in our recommendation. It's possible for a judge to continue sentencing until disposition of other cases happens but the judge in the New York case hasn't signaled he'll do that. The way Trump lies all the time, it would be hard to get the truth out of him. He would be incredibly hard to supervise because he believes he should have special privileges. We have one probation agreement that everyone is expected to follow and it includes being truthful and not committing new crimes. Even if he gets probation, he will likely have violation reports written for lying but technical violations don't typically lead to revocation as much as committing new crimes does. Does anyone think that Donald Trump will not commit more crimes? And not lie?

One of my good friends is a probation officer. She even is a "specialized" PO for mentally ill people on paper. They still have to show up on the first day (in person), piss in a cup, and go through the appropriate paperwork.

Its being reported, that it took less than 30 min over Zoom with his lawyer next to him. I saw an interview with a retired chief of NY probations with 40+ years experience. He said, occasionally lawyers are allowed, but very rarely. But also, that there are strict NY statutes about, what the probations officer have to ask about, and that there is no way to do that in 30 min, unless he refused to answer anything, which is not the reporting. That a usual probation interview according to the statute will take at least an hour. And on top of that, apparently the present chief of probations was also present for the interview, which the retired guy said, not only had he never done so, nor would he have ever done so, he had never heard of it happening b4.
The kind of special treatment/coddling, he gets, is nauseating. And how is this even useable for sentencing?

I knew Phil personally 30-years ago and ever since he got hooked up with Oprah Windbag he started slipping down, now he's gone. Sad, he USED to be a good guy.
As a probation officer myself and one who writes presentence investigation reports, we interview the defendants but we don't supervise them. We have other POs that do but I live in Iowa and I suppose it can be different in other states. Each defendant has a large packet to complete that details their criminal history as well as employment, education, family, friends, residences, substance use, mental and physical health. We use risk assessments to attempt to predict the defendant's likelihood of committing new, violent and/ or property crimes and it's used to assign an initial level of supervision in the community. We use another assessment to analyze risk factors along with protective factors that could mitigate risk areas and that helps determine the category of probability of whether or not the individual would recidivate (fail on community supervision). It's our job to also verify everything the defendant tells us through collateral sources to make the final determination. We always get a national criminal history and we are not able to factor in pending charges in our recommendation. It's possible for a judge to continue sentencing until disposition of other cases happens but the judge in the New York case hasn't signaled he'll do that. The way Trump lies all the time, it would be hard to get the truth out of him. He would be incredibly hard to supervise because he believes he should have special privileges. We have one probation agreement that everyone is expected to follow and it includes being truthful and not committing new crimes. Even if he gets probation, he will likely have violation reports written for lying but technical violations don't typically lead to revocation as much as committing new crimes does. Does anyone think that Donald Trump will not commit more crimes? And not lie?

I know- Obviously being chauffuered all around the place and avoiding water (a fear of his) OBVIOUSLY doesn't realize OR understand that a combustible engine vehicle also has a battery too and even if you have a tankful of gas, but a bad battery or low- charged one your vehicle won't go anywhere !!! Batteries in non-EV vehicles STILL REALLY important !
