I have recently come across your videos and I must say you have the most soothing voice. Your videos (and bikes) are equally sublime and I am so glad that you take the time and effort to make and upload your videos. This Korean Canadian fellow bike enthusiast would like to express my sincere gratitude for your work and I hope you keep making these amazing videos.
I've been cycling to uni for a year on a 90s mtb that I've been slowly adapting for the city. it was 35€, and it's a really fun bike, both for commuting and for longer rides. Commuting on a different route every day seems fun, maybe I'll try it out
Nice. I have worked from home since 2017, and the only thing I miss is bike commuting. Winter riding is its own animal, and like you, I looked forward to it at the beginning of the season. However, after several weeks of dark, cold rides, the rest of the season was a bit of a slog. But it was still worth it.
So nice! You’re right about the “cheat code,” I feel that I have stumbled on the most obvious secret: bike commuting is magic. I also ride a Clem Smith (the high top tube version) and the ride is sublime. Thank you for this lovely content.❤
Excellent. Sometimes I wonder why there aren’t more people commuting by bike here but then I remember it gets to -17°C in the winter and 38°C and humid in the summer!
Nice. The Romulus gets my vote. Commuting in Seoul and specifically along the Han and its tributaries made me really fall in love with cycling. The bike that reinforced that love is an early 90's Francesco Moser steel road racer. Over a decade later and a different country I still commute on the same bike every day. It's gone through a bunch of iterations and repairs... parts have been swapped in and out but its still the same steed. I guess it all depends on the commute but I really love the versatility of old steel road bikes. I've popped on a new groupset with decent range and managed to squeeze 32mm tires on... super comfy on the road and light/fast enough to send if you feel the need. Seeing all these familiar roads really make me miss Seoul, especially around Autumn. Enjoy!

I’ll be bringing my new Brompton G Line with 20” wheels to Seoul next year. Feels much less small and squirrely, but can still take it on the subway midweek that will allow me to venture further when I go for a ride. Hopefully we get back to winning ways against Chelsea today!

My perfect commuter has to be fun looking/beautiful as well, brightens the start of each day. The mom approval is necessary as you mentioned. In 2018 I bought an All-City Gorilla Monsoon after commuting on a speedy drop bar bike. It was a wild looking bike at the time with huge 650b tires, and bright colours. I run Sim Works “fun 3” bars on it and absolutely love it to this day. Endless fun.
Great video,I ride, a 30 yr old steel hardball, made from 7005 tubing,I commute on it all year round it's heavy but pretty much bullett proof. I never get sick of watching the han river bike lanes very medative. I see the traffic on the highways never ending, here in Manchester UK,the more car restrictions, they place on the city, the more car drives seem to want to enter like Leeming s, hands down the riverdsle atlantis, is a work of art an examples of one should be hanging in the louve .a true work of art .all the best to you and your wife .😊
Thanks. I used to commute to university when I lived in Manchester back in the day. Some parts were quite scary but I developed a pretty nice route on the quieter roads. I’m sure there is some improved infrastructure since then (over 15 years ago).
This channel is by far my most favorite. Very practical and just awesome! Ride your bike more and you would love your bike even more. Please keep the content coming 👍
Thank you for the inspiration in this video! Currently building up an 80s dawes mtb 3x1 similar to the bike you rode in Tokyo and that should be a blast for commuting. Luckily snagged the bike for free from my boss and it had a springy brookes saddle on it too! So there are definitely bargains to be had if you're lucky or look about enough
Thanks for all those great videos, Marcus! I love and enjoy every single one of them. They are a real inspiration when commuting these cold and rainy days. Keep them coming! Even after a hard day working digging holes and pruning trees, the bike ride home always feels good.
I love watching your videos. Those bike lanes are awesome... Bike commuting is fun ... I'm also uploading videos of my bike commute here in the Philippines...
Thanks for creating another beautiful video! With your experience in building comfortable upright sitting bikes, can I swap the handles from any bike to a swept back ones? or would the bike ergonomics gets ruined?
@@probablyriding that's a great tip. My bike market consists of used bikes that come from China/Japan, and are either geared towards speed or like the step-throughs, so mostly unknown brands, and I think I wan to build something similar to your Rivendell Atlantis. thanks for sharing such great bikes with community ❤ I found that you don't use internal gear hubs - for me it's more comfort alternative for commuter. Can you share pls your thoughts and is it popular in Korea like in Japan, Nederlands or Germany?
You don’t see that many internal gear hubs here. The pinion on the monopole cargo is internally geared, the gears are just at the bb instead. Otherwise, I usually don’t find internal gears have enough range for the steep hills in Korea unless you get a rohloff.
@@probablyriding thanks, Korea doesn't look very steepy from your videos, except mountains riding 😊 I'm living in Spain in a totally flat city - so internal hubs are popular here for commuters
Such an awesome stable of bikes! You would take the Atlantis over the Clem? I own neither, but i see the Clem as a do it all plus off road capable. Your content of the city is great as are your bikes and commentary.
The Atlantis can take tires almost as wide as the Clem and can handle the rough stuff well enough too. I think it's just about a better all-rounder and more beautiful as well. Thanks for your kind words.
My perfect commuter is a gravel bike with drop bars and disc brakes, fenders, frame lock and a rack. Used to commute with a trekking bike, but it felt slow and I didn't enjoy the commute. I miss the dynamo, so maybe I'll upgrade, but the battery lights I use are absolutely fine and last very long.
Lovely bikes; when I lived in Seoul I did the reverse commute from Tongjak to Yongsan over the Chamsu Bridge. There's plenty of opportunity to feel a bit of schadenfreud while commuting by bike., particularly when you're whizzing past the traffic jams. Hey so why not dyno's on some/all of these bikes? Seems to fit your use. My approach is #dynoeverything! Once I was spoiled with dyno-equipped bikes, I never wanted to ride anything else. And thanks for the little invitations and questions you posted in the video. In my neck of the woods, we mostly let guests go hungry! Food isn't expected anyway, but it does feel good to feed guests when possible.
Mostly because of the cost and availability in Korea. Plus, I'm pretty happy with they battery life and strength of the light I have which is super easy to swap between bikes.
what type of tires do you have on the atlantic? and size? my commuter is a surly ogre xxl with 2.25 tires! its pretty heavy so maybe I have to go down some size, what do you recommend on a commuter?
Just because the Atlantis is my favourite, doesn't mean I don't love the Susie. The Susie is a wonderful bike especially riding off road. Atlantis is more of a touring bike/all rounder.
It has the mounts for racks and could probably take them but it’s not really designed for fully loaded touring. The Atlantis is. The Susie is better for travelling over terrain that requires fatter tires.
Ah, I get it, I really need a wife. So if my colleagues are wondering why I'm riding a different bike every day of the week, I'll just tell them: "Don't worry. It's my wife's bike."
In the part of France I'm from, if you visit someone, they'll ask if you want to stay and have dinner with them. "Ask". "Making sure" you want to leave on an empty stomach. Until you eventually cave in and sit back down for a drink and some peanuts and maybe dinner/supper later.
I bike to work and i dont like the small wheels like 16's and 20s, you need to pedal it more so you sweat more.. 700c is faster and less effort if you are riding in the city
I’m in the middle of the US and there even out here is a huge amount of hatred towards cyclists. Does anybody ever get upset with you in SK? We get it from pedestrians and drivers alike.
As a Brit, it's lovely seeing videos of autumn weather from places where it doesn't just rain for three months straight.
Autumn in the UK definitely has a more bleak vibe.
@@probablyriding Just a wee bit, yeah. XD
I love seeing all the bike/ped infrastructure from the rider's POV!
Thanks
On my commuter, I like to have the „convenient four“: racks, fenders, dynamo lights and (disputed, I know) a kickstand
A kickstand is vital. No other bike of mine has it, but the commuter absolutely had to have one. Plus a frame lock
@ yes, a frame lock can come in handy. Also on a rather inexpensive city bike for grocery shopping, which usually includes many short stops.
Assuming you mean hub-powered dynamo lights, they seem really neat but they get quite pricey
And swept back handlebars. I can't stand straight handlebars after using swept back ones everyday
Definitely need a kickstand. Always tempted by a dynamo but my battery powered light lasts a couple of weeks and I can swap it between bikes.

Just because the Atlantis is my favourite, doesn't mean I don't love the Susie. The Susie is a wonderful bike especially riding off road. Atlantis is more of a touring bike/all rounder.
@ ok i suppose i was trying to tease out whether or not putting all the touring gear on Susie would make her an equal to Atlantis, and if not why?
It has the mounts for racks and could probably take them but it’s not really designed for fully loaded touring. The Atlantis is. The Susie is better for travelling over terrain that requires fatter tires.
Your Atlantis is 🔥
I agree.
I’m a student subscriber studying in Noryangjin. I hope to go on a small ride with subscribers next time. Want winter bungeoppang is delicious😊
맛있겠다
The Suzy is just too cool, I’d be riding it all the time too…
Such a cool and fun bike
Just the video I needed to end the weekend with. :) BTW what brake lever/thumbie combo are you using on the Atlantis? Cheers.
The Atlantis has Paul Love Levers and Rivendell friction shifters. Love that setup.
😂😂😂nooo nie i want the beachcomber... I saw it and it is so beautyful!! Mtbmx called. Soooo nice Video thank you i Love my Bikes the Same way ❤ LG mar
Thank you so much 🤗 You should get the Beachcomber.
i really need to know, what are those triangles hanging from your bike seat? i've seen only seen this from youtube videos of other cyclist channels
They are reflectors from Bluelug in Tokyo.
So, all those bikes are yours? So cool
Technically, two of them are my wife’s…
Ah, I get it, I really need a wife. So if my colleagues are wondering why I'm riding a different bike every day of the week, I'll just tell them: "Don't worry. It's my wife's bike."
One of the many benefits of having a wife!
In the part of France I'm from, if you visit someone, they'll ask if you want to stay and have dinner with them. "Ask". "Making sure" you want to leave on an empty stomach. Until you eventually cave in and sit back down for a drink and some peanuts and maybe dinner/supper later.
Bon appétit!
hi! what is the name of the friday's bike bags?
Swift Industries Jr Ranger.
@ thx a lot! cheers from italy ;)
Do you ride all through winter there?
Yes! It gets extremely cold but with the ride clothes, it’s still fun.
How long is your everyday commute to work?
Shortest is 5km and about 15mins. I usually take a longer route though.
Hi, how far is your commute one way?
The shortest route is only 5km but I usually take a longer route.
12:12 this guy absolutely put that shit on god damn
🚭
The step-through Rivendell is your prettiest bike.
Clem says thank you.
Anyone know what size Atlantis that is?
It’s a 2017 Made in USA 56cm frame for 650b wheels Atlantis. Different geo to the current Atlantis.
@@probablyriding Ahh thought it might be the earlier geo, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the reply, helps for reference. Cheers
❤❤❤❤
💜
I bike to work and i dont like the small wheels like 16's and 20s, you need to pedal it more so you sweat more.. 700c is faster and less effort if you are riding in the city
Yeah. 26inch and up really.
You should probably get a new Charlie Gallop model for commuting it looks like it would be perfect….👍🏼 💸💸💸lol
Very tempting but I'm happy with my fleet at the moment. Also, I'm at the limit of my wife's patience of how many bikes I own.
@@probablyridingunderstood, but that new Gallop is 🔥
Nice video. Great to have a bike for each day of commute!
But if I could ask for a language bleep. Sometimes my kids listen in…
👍🏻
I've never ridden to work, but if I had that bridge view every day....
It definitely helps with motivation
우리나라는 치안은 좋지만 자전거는 훔쳐갑니다 조심하시고 맛있는 음식 많으니까 많이많이 드시고 가세요 👍
네 감사합니다 😊
I also fucking love riding my bike 🥰
Yeah! 🚲
you do need at least one drop bar bike just for fun
I’ll probably put drops back on the Rom it then I think that’ll make me ride it less.
@@probablyriding I felt the same until I got a nice rando bag for the front, fun and comfy
I think it’s an Asian culture to feed our guests. I’m from Malaysia, btw.
I think I need to visit some friends in Malaysia then! 🇲🇾
12:11 🤣🤣🤣

I’m in the middle of the US and there even out here is a huge amount of hatred towards cyclists. Does anybody ever get upset with you in SK? We get it from pedestrians and drivers alike.
In Korea, not so much but in the UK there is a lot more hatred towards cyclists I found.
한국에서 브롬톤 와우
한국은 자전거 환경이 안 좋은데
미안하네요
