    Great video, probably the best video on TH-cam about this World Cup. Hollywood should really make this World Cup into a movie. A period piece with clashing fans and tough tackling teams would be so great to watch!

    Great video mate. Uruguay was the first country to host a World Cup and yet for the 100th aniversary they handed it to Morroco, Portugal and Spain.
    Whats even worse, fifa wants Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to be happy hosting 1 match each. Outrageous.

    • @dewsfutbol
      @dewsfutbol  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Cheers pal! Yeah that world cups gonna be a joke.
      I’d love it if they had it in Uruguay and Argentina, but they probably can’t host a 48 team World Cup 😪

    • @gabrielv1856
      @gabrielv1856 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@dewsfutbol we could if Fifa releases some $$. The 100th aniversary is a very important Milestone and despite having a Monopoly, Fifa wont release some cash.
      Also, think that that money is an investment, the country and the local teams will improve the quality of their stadiums and thus could be used in the future and that investment would potentiate local teams.
      Fifa doesnt want south america to host but they were forced to give South Americans 1 match each, otherwise it would go direclty to europe.

    • @danielsuarez3333

      @@gabrielv1856Guess they didn't give the World Cup to Uruguay/Argentina because of the lack of the necessary infrastructure and the economic situation of Argentina. It could be argued that the investment would pay off economically, but it didn't with Brazil and South Africa. That's the same reason Mexico will only host a few matches of the 2026 WC.

    There is an interview (not sure when it was made) with Francisco "Pancho" Varallo on You Tube. He played for Argentina at this first World Cup. His insights and memories are very interesting keeping in mind that he was there to live this moment.

  • @shawnzorf
    @shawnzorf หลายเดือนก่อน

    6:28 It was actually Subiabre who hit Monti with an uppercut, and after Stábile's second goal, he also kicked Francisco Varallo in the knee.
    As a sign of brotherhood, many years after the 1930 WC, Subiabre helped build a mausoleum dedicated to many Colo-Colo and Chile legends of the past. Eight members of that 1930 team, including Subiabre and Vidal, are resting in that place.

    Nice video, just like the 1938 (which is how I discovered the channel).
    Since I brazilian and I've been studying owing a bit of South America's football, the finals make a lot more sense.
    Argentina and Uruguay are, basically, the founders of what would become today's Conmebol. They are fierce political rivals for a long time (the Rio de la Plata region saw many conflicts, political or not). In football, after Chile and Brazil joined the confederation, it began Copa America. For the longest time, especially considering 1930's PoV, Argentina and Uruguay disputed the most titles - Brazil won two, both at home.
    Football violence was rampant during that time, both in Uruguay and Argentina. Brazilians reported being beaten by the crowd, while the police locked the doors to the backstage.
    Things were really tense and probably boiling under the surface, while 1930's World Cup was disputed. Uruguay dominance on the region probably let the uruguaians become condescending and arrogant, while argentinians turned to more hostility. The toxic variant of a rivalry.

    An interesting rumor is that a third place match between the USA and Yugoslavia was intended to be played, but the Yugoslav team refused to play it as they either wanted to go home or felt a third place finish was beneath them, so the USA was technically awarded their only third place finish at the World Cup by reason of opponent withdrawal.
