My Bikepacking Food - What People Ask (S2 E3)

  • People always ask me, "What food do you pack?" So, I made a video. YAY!
I pack the same type of food, supplements and nutrition snack bars whether bikepacking, hiking or backpacking. It's easy with the right amount of flavor and calories for my body.
I don't like to cook but I do bring a cooking pot and flame starters just not a fuel container.

I always, always, always carry a few little bottles of tequila.
Muli-purpose as they're excellent for disinfectant and for absolutely horrible days.
I usually stash one in my medical kit & a few (too many) more in the corners of my pannier bags.
Sanitation & sanity are crucial, because bacteria infections & mental breakdowns can cut a bikepacking trip short.

Hi. Hopefully a helpful comment on the tuna. They are 110 calories but you can get the evo tuna packets ( same size and less weight) but use olive oil and get 180 calories. Also depending on your taste you can mix them with mashed potatoes or ramen etc easier than the tuna creations.
Also have you tried complete cookie. 450 calories per cookie. Good no cook breakfast option.
Check out the CNoc water bladders. Like your platty but wide opening for easier filling/cleaning and silicon for better durability
Hope you don’t take these comments as negatives about your gear. Trying to be helpful from decades of excessive gear buying myself.

The platypus and the Sawyer squeeze is really good but you should be using since you already have the bag and it is a 2L bag by the way that you showed from hydro pack the Katadyn BeFree filter which screws directly on to that bag I use that all the time and the flow rate is even better than the Sawyer squeeze

Nomes, those "Whole Paycheck" Pizzas are as $$$ as everything else there! I'd recommend Clif & Quest Bars as the tastiest carb & protein nutritional sources but again, $$$ rears it ugly head! Sorry to learn of your leg injury, but if you can't wait, prayers for speedier healing as you roll!😊

Hey Naomi and Charlie! Great info in this video! I love those Apple wood smoked mashed potatoes. Not only good for bike packing but I even use them at home when I'm feeling to lazy to peel potatoes, great stuff. I've used one of those Sawyer filters, great little item. The rest of the foods you showed look like winners with a couple exceptions but like you said it's up to us to try them out.
Your cooking set up is similar to mine. I don't carry any actual fuel with me but when I do I have a miniature Solo Alcohol stove. It's a backpacker item and as small bottle of denatured alcohol. Works great but not something for bike packing. I prefer the little folding stove, I just use little sticks so I don't have to carry anything but the stove and a lighter and I carry the same storm matches that you carry.
Bottom line, another great video. Thanks for posting and give Charlie a few nuts for me. Oh and I love your hair and hope your knee heals fast. 😁

I’ve had some hit or miss experiences with the Sawyer. It worked great for me for a few trips but then I used it once in a high sediment creek and it hasn’t worked right since. It barely trickles out water and I’ve done a backwash clean on it over 50 times. So that’s my caution: bring a backup if you’ll be near high sediment water.

I passed on watching this video because I just thought it would be boring and not something I would like, however TH-cam just started playing it later somehow, and I ended up being surprised. It was actually boring content for me, probably because I'm a full-time VanLife guy vs a Biker Hiker Packer guy BUT I have to say that after watching I got a sincere appreciation for all that goes into what you do as a Hiker Biker kind of girl, and a respect for how you think and how you plan for all the "stuff" you have to do with the hiker biker LifeStyle. u\Us VanLifer's do the same type of planning since we have limited space rolling around on 4 wheels. Its basically the same process, more or less, just with a lot more ability to include the "comforts" with having more space in a vehicle to stuff more of our crap into vs only having a couple of bags hanging off the handlebars .. LOL !!!
