Edd a brilliant review - because you’ve again nailed the reasons to purchase the G300 against the existing G270. I love the G270 shoe - it’s everything I want from a trail shoe. I ran an 18miles trail/road race in mine last December and I was so impressed with it. This version is for the Ultra distances perhaps? - of those who seek additional comfort. However I like the G270 - it’s light! and has good ground feel - innov8 make great British shoes!

The Speedgoat sucks in greasy clay-mud and the midsole gets hard when it's freezing temperatures. This shoe could turn out to be the one to use in those circumstances..., and more.

@EDDBUD will the sniff test become a main stay as part of your shoe score? I too am a fellow new shoe only sniffer if it smells good you know your in for some good miles on them furst few runs 😂🙈
No alarms and no surprises.... great review as always although I mostly find my regular Boston 9s doing me more favours in the trails than overly lugged and weighty purpose built shoes. Except if there’s lots of mud obviously. You ever checked out the heavily Niel Young influenced band Built to Spill?

Mike, they are tighter than my G270’s (that are the same size). My SG4 wides are 1/2 a size smaller (now don’t fit as I’ve been wearing Vivo barefoot) They are certainly snug. Strongly advise trying on a pair before you shell out. Comparison my SG4 W are UK 9 (going to size up to 9.5) inov8’s are UK 9.5. No issues with width on the G270s and its the same fit scale. I think its the toe protection that makes it more narrow on the toes. I felt it straight away. Like wearing a tight pair of socks so they might stretch after a few runs. Apart from that they are mega comfortable. Hope this helps!

Reminds me of the new balance hierro v4. Same kinder stack height, same toe protector same colour. Although the new balance had a rock stopper sock liner and vibram outsole and was a lot cheaper. I'd say inov-8 have copied new balance.

This is right up your street Ed, £170 and weighing more than a bus. Are you still using the Ultraboost? Seriously though, can you send the Inov-8 to me please, I've got a 50 mile ultra in 3 weeks and these look perfect.
So not a zero drop like the 270/260. I have the older 260, it is a great multi terrain shoe. It can even make do for road running, I used it as a winter running shoe this year.
These shoes have arrived now but the toe box feels very stiff, making the shoe feel shorter in length even though I am sure there is a thumb width between my toe and the front of the shoe. Does the toe box become more supple after a few runs and does the shoe then feel normal in length? I am not sure if I should return them or just wear them until the toe box feels more comfortable.
I went for an 11.5 which seems the best for me in the Inov-8 shoes. They always seem free up a little over the initial miles. Though if you are running trails you may wish to use a thicker sock so a size change could be good.

Would recommend the Inov 8 Mudclaws. I spray them with lots of waterproof spray and they're great both off on and on road.

The increase in cushion is more appreciated in long runs with a lot of steep elevation gain/drops, so maybe hard to appreciate in flatter runs.
Yes will no doubt be more apparent on longer efforts for certain

Not sure of the fit on those Mike as it’s not one I have personally worn. These are apparently inov8’s widest lasts though. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️

I think the weight actually stops me from falling over quite so much! Extra ballast. 😂

I have a 11.5 uk and it’s a perfect fit. I typically am at the end of an 11 in most shoes. The half up is perfection. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️

The zero drop was too scary for me in the G 270 and I bottled it. This may be a better option. Should be a good long distance hybrid monster.
Not sure I noticed the drop in that shoe. This one felt similar to be fair.

zero drop is no problem if you stretch your calf muscles. eg. hanging stair stretch
problem will be that the shoe will have holes in within a month...that's inov8
