Falcom somehow consistently makes banger final dungeon themes, sometimes in other games they can be kinda meh but not here! xD they really went all out with the motifs in the Sky games. Sucks that they really don't get utilized anymore these days. At least we do still get a few different versions of the OP that get used for big moments.
Yeah the choir missing from the Evo version is a bit sad. Because except this the way Jindo went for this remix was really interesting. But anyway I love this theme, one of my top 3 Trails final dungeon theme. Even though I got so fucking lost in that dungeon during my first playthrough. So much back and forth I ended up skipping fights and did the final boss while severely underleveled. Was a great pain haha. Anyways thanks for the video as usual!
Wow top 3!? Getting lost in these is like a rite of passage though, just ask the Ys fans about their dungeons xD I could absolutely see some people needing a good ol Gamefaq's guide to navigate this place. Of course! I'll be going kinda crazy with these for the next week and a half, so I hope it won't be too much of a similar thing for everyone xD
@@Cyrus_Bright Yeah my top 3 is this one, A Light Illuminatin the Depths and Spiral of Erbebos, in no particular order I think those are the coolest. Well looking forward to watching those, then :D
The EVO version does sound a little empty compared to the OG. So for the chorus in EVO, I hear it for a split second after getting out of battle, it was something resembling a war cry.
While I don't think it quite lives up to the original (which tbf it's really hard to match, much less top; imo the original feels like... I guess smoother than the remix? not sure what the word is, but I mostly hear it in the waltz style and time signature) but I think Jindo did a great job with his arrangement. I've only gone through the Sky trilogy so far so I've only heard him in Evo remixes and a couple arrangements but I can't wait to hear more of his work later on in the series. Phantasmagoria's theme was already fucking amazing in the original and in my opinion his arrangement of it is somehow 10 times better.
Yeah, this is a waltz The waltz specifically is counted in 3, with a really strong first beat You can easily hear the DAAA dat dat in the synth, as you mentioned Thank you Jindo
Cool! Is 3 a common time signature for waltz's? Is time signature even the correct word to use? xD Jindo always gracing us with his presence when we need it the most 😌
I do think I prefer the OG over this one, simply because the OG does not sound as disconnected. I don't know, the evo version just lacks the continuity and doesn't really fit. But I have also only played with the OG soundtrack and it is just insanely good. I liked the final dungeon but it was pretty long and I kinda kept getting frustrated, because i wanted to get all the treasure and also finish the game. Treasure is important. I like treasure. But yeah, this song is really good.
3:08 You could see it like that, but I'd consider it a leitmotif because the piece does have a bunch of original sections, despite focusing a lot on the variations of the Liberl theme. The Evo version of this one is a bit complicated to me, because I think it's a really good arrangement and the quality of the instruments was an improvement (since Jindo had more experience in 2015 than he had in 2004 and the VSTs in general got better/more modern), but it's a bit too overdone imo. I feel he was trying too hard to make it different from the original, and went too far as a result, a lot more than he needed to. The more sinister atmosphere is a nice idea, but it also makes the buildups a lot weaker than the original as a result. The more "intense" beats in the verse really take me out of the track and it's probably my least favorite part of it, doesn't sound cohesive with the rest of the atmosphere and is there to artificially create more impact to a section that doesn't need any more than it already had. The chorus feels a lot weaker too, not only because of the lack of the choir but because of the brass section playing more separate notes which I really don't like. I have to say though, I do enjoy the added sections quite a bit. 11:00's more quiet and melancholic take on the theme is BEAUTIFUL (but unfortunately quite misplaced because of the way the intro loops). Overall it's not a bad arrangement at all, i'd say it's very respectful to the original and it's still on my top 10 FC Evo tracks but the original just sets the bar so goddamn high and these things I pointed out really bother me.
The first of many epic final dungeon themes! It's so cool how they incorporate the light motifs in all of them.

Liberl motif my beloved ❤😊😊❤❤❤😊
I genuinely miss Liberl, the Sky remake better hit me with that nostalgia bait I swear to Aidios! 😤
@@Cyrus_Bright Let's hope you finish Daybreak 2 before the remake is announced...well...released...

It is nice to listen to some fun tunes after a long day at work ^^ haha, it actually was a coincidence! I totally didn't plan that xD

@@Cyrus_Bright yeah I was just trying to specify what makes a waltz unique from other dances haha, 3/4 is the time signature

it is legally required to open every treasure chest in a jrpg xD
