    BEST DOZER CATERPILLAR MADE! Thanks for getting this up. What a CAT!

    There is a major difference in the construction between the D8K and D9H. The final drives on the D8K use compound gear trains and the D9s use a planetary system. Another difference is D8Ks are available in direct drive and D9Hs are only available in powershift. There are 4 dozer options from Caterpillar for D8Ks and D9Hs. The Universal blade which was shown, The semi U blade, The angle blade which typically uses twin tilt cylinders (or none) and a cushion blade for pushing scrapers. D8Ks were built up to 1984. The transmissions and torque converters are very similar between the D8K and D9H with many of the parts being interchangeable. I see that Cat has a straight pipe put on it. All D8Ks were factory equipped with mufflers.

    Thank you for posting this... The D8K is in my opinion the BEST D8 caterpillar ever built.

      I almost agree with you. I say the high horsepower D8H is the best with a K being a close second.

    I ran an open cab 8K many years ago during a 24hr job. I worked graveyard and had this girlfriend who would come down about 2am and ride me while I was pushing dirt, man she was fun. Something about the sound and the ride just made her a horny monster. Good times

    Thanks. It is hard to give good size comparisons, especially with this big equipment and if it's something most people never see.

    Great overview of the D8K.
    I think that all Cat dozers with Cat hydraulics have a float function on the blade. Just push the lever all the way forward and release it and you should be floatin' along. Pop it back and you're in the hold position. That's how mine works anyway.

  • @PAmining

    @ihaveairlockers Yes this dozer has float and as far as I know, it's standard for all Cat dozers have float control on them

    I like when you use your hands in the video, it gives some size to the equipment. Like the holes on that ripper are big compared to your hand.

    Just push the dozer control all the way forward, that is the float position, and the blade is free to move up or down with out pressure on the blade

    Hi again Justin.
    When starting the dozer with the starter switch what does it mean by "pre-heat" position please?
    Also, I assume to change gear you simply move the gear lever - theres no clutch pedal to press like in a car?
    Thanks

    • @tyfrank3427
      @tyfrank3427 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pre heat position controls glow plugs in each pre combustion chamber which heats up enough to assist starting. Typically you apply the glow plugs 1-2 minutes before starting. This particular D8K is a powershift as most D8Ks are. They are fundamentally similar to an automatic on a car and they have a torque converter rather than a clutch. There are a few D8Ks which are equipped with a manual transmission. They use a hand operated over centre clutch on the left side slightly ahead of where the shift tower is on the powershift models. There are 2 gearshift levers on the right, one of which is a forward-reverse shuttle lever and the other being a six speed transmission.

    Question What makes a D8K the Best Dozer they ever made Compared to all the Rest of the Very Same Brand Name Aren't they Simply another Crawler Dozer ? I'm guessing it's the Engine Torque coupled with High Flow GPM hydraulics that made this Non Ecm & Mechanical engine equipped model more User friendly.
