No barrier between what you hear and what you play. Love this statement!! That is my Goal. A lot of times I want to jump beyond my ability listening to you and others but I have to keep telling myself One Day at a Time. As always thanks for sharing.

These types of things are exactly what I do when preparing for a gig whether it's a local artist's original music, covers or worship music. It's good to see all these techniques laid out so I can be cognizant of what I should be doing and how to best break down the music! Great Job!

2 words that encapsulate what Janek is teaching : Wayman Tisdale. And the "overplaying" approach is how I "own the tune". This is important bc you NEVER know when a guitar or horns solo needs to be a bass solo. If you haven't explored your options you might be in trouble. In Denver I had guitar player break the B string on a bend mid-solo and look at me with that "take it" look and I solo'd while the band vamped as he changed the screen on-stage. Haha. Own every inch of your tunes and make them comfortable upside down, inside out - faster - slower... etc.

i'm doing this since qiuet a while, just randomly pick any palylist in a genre i'm in the mood for and jam to it, no matter if it would be the correct bassline.
great to see you do the same thing, and you inspired me to dig in deeper and with more repetitiion - thanks for that video!

This is brilliant. Figuring out the key, the chords, the melody, improvising over it... really a complete exercise. Thank you!

It’s great to see you do this too. I hear songs on the radio or old pop tunes and the bass becomes magical. It’s fun to groove, play melodies and then solo to add extra spice.
    Blessings!!

Notable to mention is that both songs are written by Ed Sheeran.

I'm going to make this my new practice habit! Fantastic video, Janek! I appreciate you sharing your first listen ever to a song, and how you approach learning it in real time! 🙌

Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure Ed Sheeran actually wrote both of these songs.
Loving you videos! I learn loads from each of your lessons. Thank you

Great vid as always Janek. Did you know that Ed Sheeran has done a song with Cradle of Filth, it should be out sometime this year.

As usual a great video but I got to to keep saying it, that bass sounds so good. It really suits you - I wonder what one would sound like as a 5 with a high C

:) Ordinary peoples who play instruments like me need emotions. This kind of training gives tone of positive emotions - you can feel the same drive as musicians on the stage :)... if we can play it... :). In fact - emotions drive us to make it! Sometimes I just "jump in" so much - I just don`t believe how good I play! :) Thank you, Janek!

swiss army musicality, there's so much top time money and expertise poured into these songs, even if it's of the test tube rather than grit variety, would be a shame to not take what you can from them just to spite their perceived mainstreamness lol

Justin Bieber stole that chord progression from Bob Marley. P.S. As anyone would expect Bob Marley's song is far better. It's called, "I want to Give You Some Love."

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Okay, so no he didn’t…
First of all, Ed Sheeran wrote the song.
Secondly, as Ed Sheeran’s recent lawsuit win proves, you can’t copyright or own chord sequences.
If you try to acuse someone in 2016 of steeling something from Bob Marley decades before, you really need to look 100’s of years before and realize that exact root motion appears in dozens of classical compositions.
