If someone is reading this and it happens to you, prime it then push the key in for choke, if it doesn’t start prime it again and try a couple times without choke. If still doesn’t work trim the motor all they way up to let the fuel drain from the carby and repeat it all again also check your fuel line for any holes or there might be water in the fuel
Was having the same problem with mine years years ago, couldn’t remember what the end result was. We changed the carb, all spark plugs, and hit the solenoid for hours till it cranked over. After that it was good to go b
You would be amazed on what a little Quickstart does for these Johnsons in the morning.. turn it over until she starts turning on and off like that, Take the airbox off and spray some Quickstart into the carb and she will fire right up first try. Regarding the misfire, you should pull off all the carbs and make sure all the gaskets and all rubber pieces on the carbs are in good working order. Better yet by the six carb kits and it comes with everything. could just be a little air getting by on one of your carbs causing it to misfire
when u have trouble to start the motor like in the video, remove the spark plugs for a couple minutes and let the extra fuel in the cilinders evaporate then ur motor will start easily
You only have to trim the motor up to let the fuel drain from the carby, it happened with my Johnson all the time and I never even had to take the cover off
As was said, check fuel line for cracks or other air leaks. An easy way to tell if there's air getting into the system is to temporarily put a clear piece of pvc hose in from the fuel filter to VRO pump. Make it loop up and then back down. If air accumulates at the top while the engine is running, you know it's pulling air from somewhere.... at the in-tank pickup or at the fuel filter, or anywhere between. This will cause these motors to pump in way too much oil. Second thing to check is the shift interrupt switch where the throttle linkage attaches to the block. If this is always engaged, it causes the motor to run on 3 of the 6 cylinders. Disconnect the wire (usually black with yellow stripe) coming from that switch to see if that's the issue. Third, check the under flywheel magnet blocks. They have a tendency to come loose and can be epoxied back in place. Forth, carbs. These carbs have main jets that like to get loose and back out. They are behind the drain plugs. If the engine has the old style flat drain plugs, the jet can bottom out against the face of the plug causing that cylinder to go lean... ruining that cylinder. Of course, if these get nowhere, do a compression check and then start looking at the power pack and such. This is besides the obvious things of fuel contamination or bad wires/plugs.
little late here but ive heard the same thing on my 1994 evinrude 150. is sounds like its from the top, sort of where the bendex/ flywheel is but hard to tell. more audible on the right side of the engine
I had an old chain saw that no one else could start. You had to choke it full throttle and pull till it hit. Then turn the choke off and pull till it hit. Turn the choke on and repeat till it ran.
andrew hart he doesn’t know, he just had to come make him self feel better. He’s probably some dude who’s boat shopping but fixed a problem on his boat once so he’s a “marine mechanic” on TH-cam now lol
Besides being flooded from not firing on all cylinders and priming too long (he admitted it), it's impossible to diagnose this thing through a TH-cam video. Fun to guess, though!
Are you letting off? Or is it just stalling? Your cranks are too short. My OMC 200 V6 takes at least 2 or 3 few cycle cranks before it sparks up and turns over while cold. Once it's warm it fires right up first crank. IIRC all 2 strokes will smoke a small bit like yours on cold starts out the water piss port. Let it crank a little longer. But if it doesn't run right check the plugs, plug wires, gaps, field system, and timing. One of my plug wires just blew on mine and I need new plugs but she still fires up. Again cold starts need some extra time to turn over. Also make sure you are using your choke and your carb is good
The starter cuts out for some reason when it floods, my 98 ocean pro 200 does this same thing when I don't run it for a while and it finally goes just like the video and after that it's fine all day
I can crank my 1988 Evinrude 175 for 100 years until the battery wears out. I think this model has some weird circuit that cuts power to the starter (thus, bendix pulls back) if the RPM is too low or something. Seems funny, haha. I actually have the opposite problem sometimes, I can't get the bendix to pop out and engage the flywheel. Old parts, low voltage, etc...
dude my johnson had all types of problems but now ive fixed everyhting, u need to switch the black box, this will end the misfire. about the start problem, its on ur fuel system, check to see if the choke is okay, mine was broken and the fuel was passing and filling the cilinders with fuel, in that way they have too much fuel to start, so i turned off the choke and always when i do the first start of the day, i pump fuel in the hose and open the choke (little red switcher) for a couple of seconds then u can start up the motor for the rest of the day...
It’s clearly miss firing. NEVER EVER allow a 2 stroke to run if it’s miss firing. 2 strokes deliver the oil with the gas. If you have a fuel problem you also have an oil problem. Catastrophic engine damage will occur. Find out what the problem is before you let it destroy itself.
@@martinmcquaide4807 Yea, if it’s spark related. If it’s misfiring because of a lack of fuel you also have a lack of oil. I should have been more specific.

check your fuel line for any cracks. also make sure you use high octane gas and fully synthetic oil

Yup I had a 1977 v4 140hp and their were cracks in fuel lines and carbs had dirt it mine and I rebuilt the carbs and all new coil packs too
I have a 1992 johnson 175 and it has developed a clicking sound appears to be on the right side of the motor has good compression

Yeah, I know those machines, seems all 2 cycles have their gremlins but I love em!
I'm a marine mechanic and some of these comments from people are ridiculously stupid
Mine does the same and it will turn off if it's on neutral I see the gas filter and no gas there can you give me a tip
What is the answer Sean ?

I’m no mechanic but seems obvious she ain’t firing on all cylinders
Idle timing adjustment under the flywheele
No wonder OMC went belly up and BRP quit making them. Had two and both had issues.
I have the same problem??
After the engine started, a failure was heard. I have the same problem but unlike mine, mine starts fine, it just doesn't matc
good luck
One of Two things might be happening or possibly both. You have water in your gas or one of your Sparks is not calibrated properly or is bad.
OMG STOP TALKING ! YOU HAVE NO CLUE. SPARK NOT CALIBRATED !!! REALLY !
I would guess optical sensor, had a very similar problem on a 1998 150 hp.
Mine does the same
Watch danger marine he is good have him watch you video JT
Had that issue would drain the carbs and fire back up
Was it a bad choke solinoid ?
You probably have this fixed by now, what was the issue?
Stupidity. It couldn’t be fixed
Did you even find out the issue my 1995 Johnson 225ocean pro is doing the same thing
She aint hittin on all six, check compression, if that's good replace power pack and check shift interrupter switch
I'm sure you probably have this fixed by now but I don't think it is running on all six cylinders...

Hi. Do you have the video for that? Is there way you can show how to do it. Thanks
Any suggestions
shift interupter switch?
I agree, it's running on 3 cylinders.
Just unplug the switch and it will be back running on 6.
cant you hear me knockin?

It still will pull a oil/gas mix through the rotation assembly and lube the roller bearings, it just won't produce power on that cylinder.

@Bruce Bonfiglio That's exactly Dave's point! If a cylinder isn't getting gas, it's not getting oil either!!!
try advancing the throttle in neutral....
You need to get fresh gas

andrew hart that too probably

Sea foam
