When I did my MD500 rating (my uncle was the b cat) we were doing circuits for 180 autos, and we had an aircraft take its time, we pulled up into a hover at 800 feet to wait mid down wind and he initiated on me and said make it work, so we did exactly this, its a very usable maneuver and a good tool to have especially in the photographic or long line world. Thanks for the vid kenny!

How do you overcome the fear of autorotations when learning to flying a helicopter... this is my #1 concern.

Knowledge and practice. It’s get easier the more you do it. Once your proficient it’s a non event.

Y’all should do this in auto gyros it’s a lot of fun Sometimes that’s how we land for fun we just hover down at the threshold of the runway and gently nose over to get the speed and flare to land it’s kind of the same basic thing you just turn into an auto Gyro

My Instructor would do strait down auto's and backwards autos. Yes backwards you flare the tail not the nose.

As you say at the start you could be hovering for photo's and oops.

What makes this even harder is doing it over snow...

Yes extra caution should be used in snowy conditions

I wonder why they elected to do the power recovery over the snow rather than the runway...
