Thanks so much! You must be excited to see your niece! I leave Sunday to pick up my daughter from UConn and then Tuesday to get my son from Virginia Tech (he's flying into Logan). It'll be nice to have the kids home for a month! 😊
Hi Carol. You are very welcome! I'll be making a series of videos on hardwood cuttings in case the process varies slightly for different plants that I'm taking cuttings of. You just never know. 😊🌹
This fall when dislodging a catalpa tree next to Viburnam a branch broke so I chopped and planted and many aren’t doing well. I think spring would be better. Yes, I dumped some sand on north side of shed and stuck Autumn Blaze maple cuttings in and covered with clear tote bottom and an air gap and they did very well. Let them stay there all spring through winter and transplanted that next year.Just checked water regularly. Great points! Patience is key on some.
Hi there. That's too bad about your catalpa tree cuttings but great about your autumn blaze maple cuttings! Maybe try again with your catalpa tree in the spring. 😊🌺
@ oh, I probably wasn’t clear-it was the Viburnam branch I propagated cuttings from. Lol, I’ve found the catalpa needs no help whatsoever in propagation.
You're very welcome, Kibibi. Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers as well and I'd really like to add more of them around my yard as a backdrop to my garden beds. Propagating them from cuttings is a great way to get free plants! 😊🌼
I hope you have better luck this time, friend! I suggest taking some now and taking some again in later winter and seeing which works best for you. That's also what I'm planning to do. 😊🌼
I had some hybrid tea roses as I was cleaning up my garden last month that had put up huge long shoots that would have broken over winter, so I made cuttings as you described and stuck them in the ground near the base of the plant. I'll be very interested to see if they make it!
I'd love to hear an update oh your hybrid tea rose cuttings next year. As tempting as it may be, I wouldn't pull them out too early to check for roots. In the late spring, you can give them a very slight tug just to see if there is some resistance. Good luck, friend! 🤞🏼😊🌹
That’s interesting ,12 December being late fall. I always thought our southern hemisphere seasons were exactly opposite to your northern hemisphere, as in 1 December our start of summer and our spring: 1st day of September as your start of autumn or fall. We don’t call it FALL coz Australian trees don’t shed leaves.
Greetings! The official first day of winter this year is Saturday, 21 December. Winter is technically almost here in the northern hemisphere. ❄️☀️ Here's a good read: www.almanac.com/content/first-day-summer-summer-solstice. Enjoy, friend! 😊
Hi Vita. In zone 4 here and have already had 3 stretches of below zero temps. Do you think I can still try to take cuttings from hydrangeas or wait until Spring?
Hi Laurie! Honestly, I say try taking cuttings now and also in very early Spring while the hydrangeas are still dormant. Label both with the dates and see which ones do best for you. That's what I'm doing. You never know what might pop up on your calendar come Spring time, so this way you at least have some cuttings that were taken. 😊🌼
Nice instructions! Running around all day getting ready to go pickup my niece at JFK tonight.
