In a move set to significantly boost India's trade capabilities, the Indian government yesterday approved the construction of a new mega-port in Maharashtra called Vadhavan. The project, valued at over $9 billion, is expected to propel Vadhavan into the ranks of the world's top 10 ports upon completion. Vadhavan will be situated on the Maharashtra coast, strategically located to serve two key trade corridors: the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the International North-South Transportation Corridor. This positioning allows India to strengthen its connections with Europe, West Asia, Central Asia, and even North America. The port itself will boast an all-weather design, ensuring year-round operations regardless of weather conditions. With a capacity of 298 million tonnes of cargo, Vadhavan is expected to significantly enhance India's ability to handle large-scale shipments. Vizhinjam faced lots of backlash from a particular † community, and so it was delayed for decades without any specific reason. Good job by State Gov. in prioritising this project, but still a few months ago a violent protest by "activists" took place in the name of fishing. Please don't let this happen with other projects, please protect these projects from pseudo-activists 🙏
