This is what people don't get. Sure, you never find yourself in a situation where you have to say that EXACT sentence, but it is helpful for familiarizing yourself with basic sentence structures. That's because you will find yourself saying sentences that are more realistic but similarly structured. It teaches you how to say "excuse me, I'm not a/an (blank)" if you get what I mean.

I completely agree. In my country, we learn English alongside our mother tongue because it's one of our official languages. And as a kid, I was able to learn faster than my peers and I avoided developing an accent because I watched a lot of English shows, movies, and cartoons. Being able to actually hear the language spoken by native speakers helped me learn it myself while also learning how to speak it naturally instead of like a textbook version.

Initial C: Connor was just your average teen, when one day his friend invited him to play chess in his club and wiped the floor with everyone with his skills. he was using advanced techniques and maneuvers that he himself doesn't even know the names of. unbeknownst to him, his father was a former "street grand-master" and has been teaching him chess through video games since he was a child. the discovery of his talents couldn't have come at a better time, since the inter high is coming up and the school's chess team is average at best and is on the verge of being disbanded, even though his school was a former national champion, but Connor isn't really interested in playing competitively because he thinks chess is boring and takes too long to finish, he just wanted to play more pokemon. can his friend convince him to join the chess team and restore the school to it's former glory?
When I was in high school, I was "that kid" who could play chess and not explain how why they made that move. But I was also the one who doesn't like "coaching" from people and would rather throw the match when I'm done. 8 hours of chess no thanks. The "chess" club was the math teacher, and I kept getting offered to play after and was like, nope, I'm done.
In the span of about 2 days, in high school, I completely changed the way I wrote to be similar to a girl I really liked. Transitioning to starting at the top when writing seems like it should be pretty simple in comparison, because I still write like that after 12 years.
@@AzisaN at least you're not doing it the psychopathic way schools teach it. They say you need to write it top to bottom but without the top line. After you reach the bottom you add the top line going from left to right

Shit. I might just fuck around and write this story down like a reddit writing prompt. EDIT: As they kept talking about Connor's stint as a local chess prodigy, both Gan and Joey touched up on so many tropes most sport/competition anime/manga have. The explanation of moves, some history on certain moves and methods, concepts that get shown visually, the rival/bully story arc, the protagonist losing confidence/interest, etc etc. This shit writes itself at this point!
id say theyre pointing out the hard stuff/misconceptions if ur dream is ruined, they saved u the time and dedication but yeah i agree lmao, thats their theme currently and I'm loving it.
Why not watch anime to learn Japanese if that is what you like doing anyways? I wouldn't necessarily recommend using only anime, but using that as a major source of listening immersion does not harm your progress in Japanese in any significant way (AT ALL). I do think it is good to use a varied range of listening and reading but then again, anime has tons of genres with different characters who speak in many different ways, so it should be enough to watch pretty much only anime until you get fluent. . . . And yes, I am speaking from experience.

@@Nippontradamus Duolingo is okay at teaching you the syllabaries (hiragana, katakana), words, and some phrases, but it doesn't go over sentence structure or articles like "the" so in essence it doesn't really teach you the language. A word of caution though, for Japanese, some of the words they teach you isn't 100% accurate. For example, the app will teach you "ocha = tea", when "ocha" more specifically means "green tea"; or "chiketto = ticket", which is true in general but for train ticket you need to use the word "kippu". Subtleties like that.
You could try the app Memrise (bit ad heavy for it's premium option though just a heads up). There are user created courses as well, I haven't tried those too much though to give good feedback.

And YES Connor, attack on titan was so above everything else it transcended that, even after season 1 every episode was too good to miss. Same with the manga, every time it comes out I NEED to see what happens, then see what twitter and reddit see about it. Same with youtube videos, immediately I go to the comments when something happens and if no one's talking about it I sure as fuck am. Connor gets it

I've got that issue in general, and it's been screwing with my life while nobody in my friend group has the same issue. So for a while I thought I was some kind of freak. Talked with my psychiatrist lately, turns out it happens when you have both ADHD and Depression. I'm chasing the perfect dopamine high from watching things, and those two issues make it such a bitch and a half to get that to happen. Sandbox games, clip compilations and random shit on TH-cam is so much more approachable and gives me that immediate feedback, whereas I know if I want to finally get back to reading Berserk, everything needs to be right. The problem is, I'm pretty much never in a good headspace. Kinda puts a damper on my ability to experience things I might enjoy. I have had Cowboy Bebop on DVD for years, and I have never fucking seen it. I've heard Serial Experiments Lain is amazing, can't find the right time to sit down and view it. Ergo Proxy looks interesting, no fucking idea when I'll see it. There's so many things like that, whether it's manga, anime, video games, even listening to new albums from artists I know I enjoy. I have never listened to any King Crimson album other than Court of the Crimson King, because when I want to listen to them, I'm going to go back to that album. Honestly it's driving me nuts. I comfort zone so hard that it's not even comfortable, it's just vaguely OK.
Some noname, ~1800 Elo rating in chess, wanted to play with Conner, who is also a Russian writer: I'll do it. I have the idea. I know the styles of play in chess and I can use real matches from the World Champions (and not only them) for the latest games in tournament arc...
My school started creating a massive crowd around these two kids at lunch, hyping them up, and when a teacher came to break up a fight they were surprised to see two kids playing speed chess with half the school watching 😂. I read No Longer Human, and it is one of the best books I have ever read. 1:14:41 Joey said exactly what I came to the comments to say. Just because something is sad doesn't mean you shouldn't read it or it has nothing to offer. Sometimes the saddest stories teach you the most.
To the bit about Joey’s mom, I was straight up hired once to babysit for a child who was half Japanese half White, and pretend I spoke no Japanese. The parents wanted her to be able to speak both English and Japanese, but because we were in Japan and the parents (particularly the dad) would often respond to her when she was using Japanese, she would never practice English. So basically they hired me to both give them some free time and also force her to use English. So I get where his mom is coming from. 😂

"I was a chess pro by accident"
Sounds like the name of the forthcoming light novel starring Connor.
Gotta write it
In another world!
Nah too short a name it should be called ‘ that time I accidentally got recognised as a chess prodigy but just wanted to play pokemon’.
Initial C:
Connor was just your average teen, when one day his friend invited him to play chess in his club and wiped the floor with everyone with his skills. he was using advanced techniques and maneuvers that he himself doesn't even know the names of. unbeknownst to him, his father was a former "street grand-master" and has been teaching him chess through video games since he was a child. the discovery of his talents couldn't have come at a better time, since the inter high is coming up and the school's chess team is average at best and is on the verge of being disbanded, even though his school was a former national champion, but Connor isn't really interested in playing competitively because he thinks chess is boring and takes too long to finish, he just wanted to play more pokemon. can his friend convince him to join the chess team and restore the school to it's former glory?
C-san's chesscapade
It's like food wars, haikyu, and ahiru no sora?(tennis one right) all mixed in together with some exceptions ofc but yea
Kleyder Sanchez Do you mean Hoshiai no Sora?
When I was in high school, I was "that kid" who could play chess and not explain how why they made that move. But I was also the one who doesn't like "coaching" from people and would rather throw the match when I'm done. 8 hours of chess no thanks. The "chess" club was the math teacher, and I kept getting offered to play after and was like, nope, I'm done.
Project C

I just find it comfortable to do from the bottom cuz it’s familiar, same situation with my 5
In the span of about 2 days, in high school, I completely changed the way I wrote to be similar to a girl I really liked. Transitioning to starting at the top when writing seems like it should be pretty simple in comparison, because I still write like that after 12 years.

1:17:15 I got this feeling about family after ''demon slayer'', I lost my father when I was 12, never thought about having family and all of that landscape, but after watching Tanjiro being so benevolent, allways thinking about family, valuing so much life and everything, something went different in my heart, after watching I set a new goal in life, having a big family and valuing it.
Connor and Garnt: *Struggles to learn Japanese.*
Joey: *What are these peasants talking about?*
What are*
You struggling to learn English, bro?
Suddhadeep Sarkar they probably are, it's ok to make some mistakes
What're LMFAO
@@dtcalles5832 it definitely is
But look at the context. It was worth the joke.
@@dtcalles5832 Pretty ironic though, considering they are throwing (humorous, but...) shade at Connor and Garnt for struggling to learn Japanese.
I love that literally half the comments here are about Connor's chess arc
I mean his story sounds like the synopsis to an actual chess anime series lol
I would absolutely watch it though
Him playing Pokemon between matches is such op MC behavior
Kevin Delgado and then all the chess boys swooning over him like girls would over handsome men lol
Connor should commission someone to write a chess manga about his life. I’d read it.
Write*
Im gonna right a comment
I'd prefer it if he comissioned someone to wrong it, personally.
I read No Longer Human, and it is one of the best books I have ever read. It take an amazing caliber of author to take topics that live in the darkest corners of society and write about them in a way that makes it seem beautiful. Even more so that the nuances of the literature is retained through the translation into English. Kudos to the translator too for working to retain that beautiful writing.
I dunno about you guys but I think this is the best format for this podcast. It really gives them the freedom to talk about what they want without feeling constrained and constantly feeling like they have to stick with their plans for the episode. It just feels like a couple of degenerates having a fun time
I agree with that a billion percent
Yess
Totally agree this podcast was so interesting
I'm still disappointed that Levi isn't sitting on the couch staring at C2 and Rias' dump truck asses in the background. Y'all promised that in the episode where y'all bought em. DELIVER!
They did it, it's on the trash taste twitter
Millim
Joey: I don't know chess, I never played it.
[half an hour later]
Joey: That's an En Passant, Connor.
That's me after watching any sports anime ever
@@o249s3 Haha yeah I play wing spiker. My friend player libero. No I don't know how to set a ball
@@boiboi7717 uhh... Can you translate into soccer please?
@@spritepunk libro the gate keeper (? Goalie?) And the wing spiker would be the person who kicked it in the net
@@spritepunk I don't know soccer but I know volleyball lmao sorry
Hearing Connor saying Haruhi is mid in front of Garnt and Joey is hilarious
Joey: In Japan, the quarantine is pretty much done, it's over
America: 1.7 million cases
tbh most asian countries are thankfully doing great and started reopening
Medbread 『🍞』 the real question is what are chinas real numbers
Hahaha I flew home from Japan to the UK to be with my family just as the lockdown in Japan was ending and they won't have me back xD
My country is open for months already
@@archazazel1855 my "country" is being forced to be open by the United States
"I know this is a garbage opinion"
One could almost say it's... trash talk.
you mean Trash Taste?

The door is at that side, sir
oof
That’s just no
Connor's Chess Story can be the first chess anime.
I would watch that anine
I've been thinking for years that I would love an anime about bowling, lol.
How about an anime about politics tho?
We that football shonen man
Make it soo
1:14:41 Joey said exactly what I came to the comments to say. Just because something is sad doesn't mean you shouldn't read it or it has nothing to offer. Sometimes the saddest stories teach you the most.
"People like that is the reason why microwave comes in instructions"
- Connor
Conner sounds like a gentleman flirting with the girl that makes coffee at starbucks
Connor tries starbucks barista in japan XD

To the bit about Joey’s mom, I was straight up hired once to babysit for a child who was half Japanese half White, and pretend I spoke no Japanese. The parents wanted her to be able to speak both English and Japanese, but because we were in Japan and the parents (particularly the dad) would often respond to her when she was using Japanese, she would never practice English. So basically they hired me to both give them some free time and also force her to use English. So I get where his mom is coming from. 😂
That's smart
This video should be called " Kanaru-kun's chess adventures"
