  • This video shows you how to restart the time clock ten day period for the Dexcom G6 transmitter. this is for instructional purpose only. this method does not require you to remove the transmitter from the sensor and is easiest with one hand.
Sometimes you may need to restart the G6 transmitter due to dirty sensor contact errors, a glitch in the matrix or it there was an error where the contacts made from a day in the mud and had to be cleaned this is an example.
DISCLAIMER: This is not medical advice and is ONLY an instructional how it works only video.

After wearing one dexcom or another for 2 years now, as soon as he clipped the test strip and showed the profile, etc., the lightbulb went off with what he was going to do with it and I feel like a total moron!!!
I've ALWAYS had trouble not breaking the sensor when attempting to unseat the transmitter. Sometimes the smartest ideas are the simplest ideas.
Decom has to hate you intensely by now. Good on you. =)
Thank you for sharing this with us.

thanks for concise video with good illustrations / explanation. After closely watching video I stopped sensor using my iphone app, then slipped a blood glucose strip (after estimating depth of insertion), did require a bit of 'jiggling' and insertion pressure while being careful not to disturb the sensor wire that's inserted in skin. I waited 30 minutes (excess caution) then clicked on app of iphone 'new sensor' , removed the plastic strip and entered the sensor number(from a pic I took of it last week before applying), got a green checkmark on app and then waited the 2 hour warm up time before app started relaying numbers. I read how it might take 12 hours before it settles down and reads correctly, after 2 hours mine was reading stable but higher than expected so did a calibration and it was 100 higher than finger stick, I'll watch how it responds overnight and to meals, will probably do another calibration at stable low and high points. This is my first sensor and was reading between 70-300, nice graph, had confirmed the low but never confirmed the high but will do that from now on.
    Great website, Appreciated!

Really helpful - thanks. I agree with the comment re "sensor" / "transmitter" but I also understand your point. Restarting a sensor extends its life past the 10 days. Resetting a transmitter extends it past the FDA-mandated 3-month lifetime (more complicated - not something I've tried).
But I really appreciate your video!

Thank you so much for this! I was able to finally successfully restart a sensor for my 6 year old T1D! I haven't been able to pop out the transmitter no matter how hard I tried and my daughter was getting stressed. This was SO MUCH easier! Thanks again! We don't want to restart it all the time...but paying out of pocket for dexcom is stressful! So if I can restart a sensor and have it last for 20 days (or heck even 15 or 13) we'll take it!

I just came across your video!! This is amazing! My wife is constantly having issues with her sensors.
On a different topic, my wife has other things going on to where she has extremely dry skin. I have tried everything short of wrapping her whole arm in coban haha. I’ve been really debating on ordering a couple starter sets from bands for diabetics. That’s actually how I came across your videos 😀. But I’m still worried about her pulling everything out. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Same. Bought the covers that are anywhere from $10-$20 for a set of ten usually. They immediately came off due to dry skin. Found that a roll of 3" kinesiology tape does a much better job! You cut about a four to five inch piece and tear the Middle of back paper. Clean skin with alcohol. Pull one piece off and place over sensor. You can cut a hole or cover completely. Don't cut hole as big as sensor because it stretches and will be too large. One tool costs between $8-$15 on Amazon and lasts forever.

    • @casamtb3715
      @casamtb3715 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

try Simpatches. they go ever the outside of the original adhesive and will keep it on. usually my original adhesive will be just starting to peel at edges after 10. i will cover it with a simpatch and restart and get another 5-6 out of it. the simpatches don't last for 10 days for me. although im active and constantly getting sweaty and dirty. i know there are some tacky adhesive wipes out there folks use to extend the adhesive life. my strategy is 10 days, reset, cover with simpatch, get 5-6 more. and then change. I figure an extra 5-6 days is solid and easy. it's nice to build a surplus and have extra in stock if one fails or gets ripped off as they do.

I'll make another video. When you apply the tape, black electrical tape has a slight stretch to it. When applying the tape you want to gently pull the tape to crate a tight grip and cover the entire flower 3 times.
Also. Put a couple loops vertically up and down the tube before wrapping the round way if that makes sense.

@Zachary Swain the sensor fails. Most times I only get about a week into a 2nd 10-day period (1 re-start). It's different for each sensor / person. I don't remember exactly, but the coating on the sensor, while sitting in your body's interstitial fluid, eventually wears out. Apparently lots of bg fluctuation wears it out sooner.
      good luck :)

After 30 mins I remove the test strip and it does its 2 hour count down, then after about 30 mins I get an error message saying Unable to use sensor. OR sometimes the countdown does work but my test result ALWAYS shows HIGH (finger stick test proves otherwise). Strange thing is when I do this procedure on my partner's Dexcom it works fine. No problem at all. So I'm at a loss.

Perhaps. But this is VERY common practice in the D community. Before FDA made Dex change to the 10-day sensor, they were made to last 7 days, but it was a lot easier to re-start them for another 7, and another... I learned about it when I was active in the Dex groups on FB. Plenty of skin irritations. Never saw anything about infection.
