Her love never gone for him, she said to Rongpei after cheer the Han concubine that maybe she lost her young lover. She knew her end is near but she was too tired to restart the same drama over and over again. I mean how many times she show him her love compassion and loyalty, but he never see it. I don't say it he didn't love her in the beginning but his lack of trust destroy their love.
Yes. I believe Ruyi still love him and that is why she make that decision. He's not the same Hongli she trust and fell in love with and she knownif she stay alive she will have to reconcile with him He's the emperor. So she just to free herself abandoned the love they used to share.

He even accused her of adultery with the Master just because of a bracelet. He tested and lied to her so many times she still faithful. One of the best scenes I've seen in a TV series is the final conversation between Ruyi and Rong Pei. A masterclass in acting. The delivery was subtle but their presence were so strong. I have never seen someone so beautiful and strong in their dying moments. Ruyi so beautifully and calmly described her true thoughts and feelings about her life and her relationships with others in a way that I hope that when my time comes I'll be able to express it the way she did - watching her past life flash before her eyes in numerous scenes from a distant stage. Such peace and awareness of what was going to happen to her - her final breath on earth, and the first one she took in the next life. One day, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. This scene is untouchable. And Zhou Xun, you're unforgettable. You are Queen!
That little farewell curtsey at the end broke me. She knew it was the last she would see of him. Another subtle detail here: Ruyi used the common 'I' instead of the royal 'I, your Consort' here when she talked to Qianlong. She meant what she said when she cut her hair, and no longer regarded herself as the Empress.
The acting here is superb. You can tell in her voice that she is in her final days. Her stance, that slightly bent over-- she is fragile, her will holding her up. Rongpei-- the look on her face after she, an orphan, sharing tea with an Empress, is exquisite. All subtle signs, but so delicately done. Just wonderful.
Zhou Xun, the actress for Empress Ruyi is the top actress in China even in Asia. I would think she is the Chinese Meryl Streep. Qi Huan, the actress for Rong pei also has done a fantastic job to protait this supporting role.
Get off the fucking gas we know you in real life and people see your behavior ...you can't stone somebody to death yet so the same things you accused them of ..it's popsterous and it make you out to be a untrusting leader of sorts
My favorite part is the very subtle pause that Rong Pei has before she drinks that last cup of tea. Like she's scared to drink it because she KNOWS what it is. Her last time serving her mistress, her last moment with her, the only cup she will ever share. There's no doubts in her. The character knows what is coming.

Not in Ruyi’s case. She’s at peace knowing that the people who were innocently murdered will finally Rest In Peace, but most of all Ruyi will be free from the palace and the man who made her life a misery from her years as his wife and empress.
I cried a bit here. I felt like Rongpei was like the only person there for Ruyi and the emperor didn’t appreciate her while it lasted. He was horrible.
Many young people here commented that Ruyi hates the Emperor when she cut their painting together ..... No, she does not hate him. The opposite of love is not hate, it's "nothing". lol.... I wish for your sake, u will never know what I mean. 🤭 Bec once u understand what I am saying, that means your heart has been broken..
He was a ruthless king. Very selfish, he never truly loved anyone. He so casually says it's water under the bridge and to forget it all, never showing any remorse till the end. Its such a sad and lonely life these women lived. Its really suffocating to live like that.
If you watched the whole series, they were like high school sweethearts, and then things went bad. Ruyi was disappointed too many times that she chose not to give him another chance anymore. You still love the memory, the ideal image of that person but they are not the same anymore. Even though you would love to get back to them, what they have done will always stick to your mind, and letting them go is more bearable than keeping them.
The hair cutting is also sending strong message to the emperor. I watch the scene not less than 10 times and each it give me the heartache...especially when the emperor physically hurt her.
She divorced her husband in body and spirit with cutting her hair and cutting her side of the portrait and burning it. A strong message saying, “May we never see each other again in the next life.”

This is the saddest part of all dramas I have ever watched. Her deadly calmness, her politeness showed that she was beyond anger, beyond hurt, beyond pain. She had forgiven him, through the possibility of finally stopping loving him. She refused everything he offered (always a little too late) and like she said, there’s a season for the blooming flowers, once the season is past, you can’t go back to its beauty (of love) her way of saying that there’s nothing left between them. I felt that she had made her peace with her life and him. There was no more love (which she had bourne for so long) and better still, no anger or hatred. She was at peace with her life, with herself. She was finally FREE of her crazy roller coaster life into hell. His punishment was guilt and regret throughout the rest of his life, hoping for reconciliation (in death) by preserving their hair together. Really?
What's the use of preserving their hair together? Ruyi was always a victim of suspicions, injustice....the emperor was cruel and unfair to her...and in the end by death she is free....
She was a very strong and beautiful woman. He was just a pitiful man with no regret. She suffered so at his hand. When leaving she knew that was the last time she would see him. Walking on the roof looking over and remembering when she came into the palace. She cut all ties with him I was so sad by her life an death
She fulfilled her last business of taking out Wei Yanwen and avenging those that were innocent of any crimes. She died on her terms and she didn’t fear death. She greeted death like an old friend.
Despite everything Ruyi showed real strength. She maintained her integrity and values to the very end, even when the emperor doubted her. In doing so she may not have led a happy life. She lost far more than anyone in those years. But, she lead a life where she was honest to others and herself. Her only regret was the collateral damage done to those around her (even then it wasn't from any fault of her own). Only Ruyi, & those few close to her, could be considered trustworthy within those castle walls. She attained freedom, not just cause she died but because her soul was truly unburdened. Not many, even in this day and age, can say that.

Ling who he wanted to replace the Empress and elevated her in a way not done while the Empress was alive died 9 years after Empress Nàra and by the time he was old most of the concubines were gone. They say his son the current Emperor gave him one of his conçubine.He actually did die alone and a lonely man. The historic Emperor in my opinion was worse than this miniseries Emperor. He put her in house arrest took all her gift and everything he could away from her but other officials wouldn't let him dethrone her as Empress. He had been married to her since she was 16. He constantly humiliated her and was as cold as it gets. She was virtuous and a devout Buddhist. He was a mean womanizer. She wanted out and he should have let her go.
Danika Morales: Jealous men are relentless; there’s no way to see your way thru the constant barrage of accusations and constantly walking on eggshells, not knowing when the next onslaught of anger for an imagined offence is coming your way. There’s no defence against what you didn’t actually do, and no penalty that you’ll pay that will ever be enough. They eat your soul, especially when it doesn’t occur to them that you can leave. It gets worse once they do start to think that you can leave. There’s no winning. Not for anybody.
Ruyi suffered so much. The emperor doesn't even know how much she endure and yet he questioned her action in the end. Like man your very cruel to her that the only way she saw out from the bond that she had with him is to die. I know this is a drama but the many times I really wanna slapped him is overwhelmed.
Have he ever really sorry to her? -She was bullied by others (Xiyue, Langhua, Yuyan, Yanwan,…), he didn’t punish them in public. She went through hell (The wrath of the Empress Dowager, Cold Palace, Confinement not once, but 3-4 times, cuz of the jealousy). Her life was saved by Hailan and Ling Yunche, but the emperor cast them aside and it cause a lot of innocent lives. The moment he walk in to Yikun Gong, he didn’t say sorry, and he have the audacity to say “water under the bridge”… wow! The great emperor himself… lady and gentlemen. I’m glade that she is finally free from this cruel life. She forgave him many times, but he didn’t value her forgiveness. I watched many harem dramas, but I never hate someone like I hate Qianlong in this drama. He choose to believe and forgive other (Langhua, Xiyue, Yuyan,…) why not trust his beloved Ruyi??? Only regret when you lost something… I hope that… they would never reunite… Ruyi should be a free and happy soul.
This gives us a learning that in a difficult situation, in order to maintain your own egoistic stance you will tend to hurt/abuse the one closest to you or love you most because your trust of a sincere love turns into a egoistic cruelty as comfort zone of assurance that your beloved will always support and forgive you. Beware..
Her act of cutting the picture was in my opinion: A way of her expressing the disappointment throughout the years in her so-called best friend, husband/Emperor. Which leads to her love for him dissipating into nothingness which turned her marriage to him a total joke/failure. You can see how it took no time for her to cut herself out and burn it ... which in itself speaks volumes of her heart's feelings. she was done with his Abuse and Mistrust ... and let the emptiness inside her, especially up until her death, be heard by her actions of silence. BRAVO!!!
She realized that her heart was so tired for everything that happened to her. She never feel the presence of the emperor. How can you love this kind of person after all on what tragic that happened to her and the people that she love, how can she continue love the emperor.

She separated from him because he lost the ability to see her true self. He acted like a spoiled brat , and he was spoiled, who’s jealous that someone touches his toys! He never truly respected a single woman of his harem.

What a subtle way of letting him know that her (or their) love has ended. He thought he would have the time to woo her back after his hunting trip. But he didn't catch her subtle hint that she is saying goodbye to him forever! She is the only concubine who dare to talk back or offend him because she is not interested in being the empress. All she really wants is the king's love. He expunged all records of her after her death. He needed not do so because she has the taken the preemptive action of expunging herself from his mind but cutting her portion of the portrait and burn it.
The 3 years that she spend in the cold castle is unforgettable and cruel,knowing that she was Inocent, only becouse he believe in the other mistress, that kill a lot people.

Não sei se são palavras que consolam, mas acredito que ela deixou claro para ele que não o amava mais e ele ficou se remoendo por dentro achando que quando voltasse iria conquistar ela novamente, no entanto a morte seria para ela, a saída para ser liberta de tantas injustiças que sofria ao lado dele.
A atuação dessa atriz foi impecável! Uma pena que ela não teve um final feliz, porém o imperador pagou por todo mal que fez!! Não me conformo quando ele mandou castrar o soldado por ciúmes. Uma das cenas mais impactantes desse drama!
Antes fosse por ciúmes (não que justificasse), mas foi por puro orgulho e honra mesmo... Certamente foi a partir dali que Ruyi percebeu que não havia mais volta... E sim, a atuação de todos - até das crianças! - nesse drama é sensacional! A atriz que faz a imperatriz então... Wow!!!

He was a ruthless king. Very selfish, he never truly loved anyone. He so casually says it's water under the bridge and to forget it all, never showing any remorse till the end. Its such a sad and lonely life these women lived. Its really suffocating to live like that.

The loneliness and empty feeling when one is detached was so well depicted when she view the forbidden City's roof. The feeling of ultimate peace.
If you watched the whole series, they were like high school sweethearts, and then things went bad. Ruyi was disappointed too many times that she chose not to give him another chance anymore.
You still love the memory, the ideal image of that person but they are not the same anymore. Even though you would love to get back to them, what they have done will always stick to your mind, and letting them go is more bearable than keeping them.

This is the saddest part of all dramas I have ever watched. Her deadly calmness, her politeness showed that she was beyond anger, beyond hurt, beyond pain. She had forgiven him, through the possibility of finally stopping loving him. She refused everything he offered (always a little too late) and like she said, there’s a season for the blooming flowers, once the season is past, you can’t go back to its beauty (of love) her way of saying that there’s nothing left between them.
I felt that she had made her peace with her life and him. There was no more love (which she had bourne for so long) and better still, no anger or hatred. She was at peace with her life, with herself. She was finally FREE of her crazy roller coaster life into hell.
His punishment was guilt and regret throughout the rest of his life, hoping for reconciliation (in death) by preserving their hair together. Really?
What's the use of preserving their hair together? Ruyi was always a victim of suspicions, injustice....the emperor was cruel and unfair to her...and in the end by death she is free....

She fulfilled her last business of taking out Wei Yanwen and avenging those that were innocent of any crimes. She died on her terms and she didn’t fear death. She greeted death like an old friend.
Despite everything Ruyi showed real strength. She maintained her integrity and values to the very end, even when the emperor doubted her. In doing so she may not have led a happy life. She lost far more than anyone in those years. But, she lead a life where she was honest to others and herself. Her only regret was the collateral damage done to those around her (even then it wasn't from any fault of her own). Only Ruyi, & those few close to her, could be considered trustworthy within those castle walls. She attained freedom, not just cause she died but because her soul was truly unburdened. Not many, even in this day and age, can say that.

He llorado por Ruyi pero, he comprendido que las mujeres fuertes e inteligentes son así. Ruyi. Inteligente, fuerte, leal y estoica frente a toda adversidad. Su lealtad a sí misma y a sus convicciones la hacen fuerte. Jamás traicionó al Emperador y a ella misma porque, antes de su muerte, dejó de amarlo.

Ling who he wanted to replace the Empress and elevated her in a way not done while the Empress was alive died 9 years after Empress Nàra and by the time he was old most of the concubines were gone. They say his son the current Emperor gave him one of his conçubine.He actually did die alone and a lonely man. The historic Emperor in my opinion was worse than this miniseries Emperor. He put her in house arrest took all her gift and everything he could away from her but other officials wouldn't let him dethrone her as Empress. He had been married to her since she was 16. He constantly humiliated her and was as cold as it gets. She was virtuous and a devout Buddhist. He was a mean womanizer. She wanted out and he should have let her go.

Ruyi suffered so much. The emperor doesn't even know how much she endure and yet he questioned her action in the end. Like man your very cruel to her that the only way she saw out from the bond that she had with him is to die. I know this is a drama but the many times I really wanna slapped him is overwhelmed.

-She was bullied by others (Xiyue, Langhua, Yuyan, Yanwan,…), he didn’t punish them in public. She went through hell (The wrath of the Empress Dowager, Cold Palace, Confinement not once, but 3-4 times, cuz of the jealousy). Her life was saved by Hailan and Ling Yunche, but the emperor cast them aside and it cause a lot of innocent lives. The moment he walk in to Yikun Gong, he didn’t say sorry, and he have the audacity to say “water under the bridge”… wow! The great emperor himself… lady and gentlemen. I’m glade that she is finally free from this cruel life. She forgave him many times, but he didn’t value her forgiveness. I watched many harem dramas, but I never hate someone like I hate Qianlong in this drama. He choose to believe and forgive other (Langhua, Xiyue, Yuyan,…) why not trust his beloved Ruyi??? Only regret when you lost something… I hope that… they would never reunite… Ruyi should be a free and happy soul.
This gives us a learning that in a difficult situation, in order to maintain your own egoistic stance you will tend to hurt/abuse the one closest to you or love you most because your trust of a sincere love turns into a egoistic cruelty as comfort zone of assurance that your beloved will always support and forgive you. Beware..
Honestly. The Emperor in these harem dramas will always be a Villain. Wallace Guo portrayed him to be despicable so well.
Her act of cutting the picture was in my opinion: A way of her expressing the disappointment throughout the years in her so-called best friend, husband/Emperor. Which leads to her love for him dissipating into nothingness which turned her marriage to him a total joke/failure.
You can see how it took no time for her to cut herself out and burn it ... which in itself speaks volumes of her heart's feelings. she was done with his Abuse and Mistrust ... and let the emptiness inside her, especially up until her death, be heard by her actions of silence. BRAVO!!!
She realized that her heart was so tired for everything that happened to her. She never feel the presence of the emperor. How can you love this kind of person after all on what tragic that happened to her and the people that she love, how can she continue love the emperor.
