Consuelo Velázquez was 19 years old when she composed this song (and she had never kissed anyone). It is the most performed and recorded Mexican song in history. Fun fact: Paul's father was very fond of listening to Mexican music, especially boleros. That's where Paul's taste for this song came from. The influence of boleros and Mexican trios can be heard in And I Love Her, Till There Was You, Do You Want to Know a Secret, etc.

Chatting with a professor of music in Liverpool I mentioned that I could hear a LOT of latin influences in The Beatles music. "And I Love her" is a bolero, so is "Anna" "I will" etc and Ringo had a great feel for latin polythyrims . This professor mentioned that at that time mid 1950s Liverpool was a HUGE international maritime port and all the sailors would bring back records from the USA and Latin AMerica , but the older people in Liverpool liked the latin stuff like Cha-Cha, Rumba etc so that is what The Beatles heard as little kids. There was also this fascination with horse riding boots with "Cuban Heels" that somehow made it to the final Beatle look . So the "Boys" were international transatlantically famous even before they were famous. .

+mickavellian What do you think of their version of Besame Mucho of the Let it Be sessions? watch?v=rBFlgdt1Fto I just found out about that video and they were goofing around. To me Paul, around that time in 1969 obviously sounded like a mature vocalist, more suitable for songs in Spanish. Ringo was indecisive with his rhythm but I'd like to see how he does his sticking pattern there.
+Ramir Reyes I have heard a few versions. The live versions were kindda goofy as fast paced bolero with the "chakakoom" ; but I have heard serious versions and Paul sings his heart out. and it is played like a straight on bolero. I am talking about the VERY original they played back in Liverpool /Hamburg days. Back then the Pete Best version was not 100% bolero but Ringo played it as he did "And I love her" but using a VERY light snare. Of course in "And I love her" (watching the clip in "A hard day's night") Ringo does an excellent Cuban bolero (there's a slightly different "Spanish" Bolero) on the conga drums. Very precise finger tips 2/4. The music professor I spoke about told me THAT was the music that was played in Liverpool when the "Lads" grew up. Paul seemed to have an affinity for latin things since he wanted to be called "Paul RAMON" as a stage name. I always found it interesting that Paul named an album "RAM" with a song named "RAM ON". I know I give you way too many details when I answer these things but "Besame Mucho" the most famous of Cuban Boleros was written by a Mexican ;)
mickavellian If I had higher voice range, I think I'd be like Paul, not that I'd try to sing the very same styles as he did but like him, I'd be able to shape my voice for different genres and even imitate what famous musicians and celebrities sounded like. Saw a video of him in the Beatlemania years that he was trying to copy American Western accent which he also did for some songs like Rocky Racoon. I heard him goof on Get Back trying to imitate Elvis. He was the most vocally talented and versatile in the group and probably the best ventriloquist of them as well. Great voice modulation on his youth. But I think as far as voice imitating is concerned, I think I'm better than Paul but not singing obviously. I could try to imitate the accents of all four Beatles and I might have to pinch my nose for John and Ringo's voices. I could turn on the cowboy voice better than Paul, even tried British, Scottish and even Indian accents. I also experimented on American Southern accent trying to sing Proud Mary by CCR. Modulation was sort of a talent I was born with and it came out instinctively but not with a high voice range for singing though I could muffle my voice so narrow to sound like an opera lady. I could imitate the meow of a cat as if it was a real cat, not kidding on that one. Back in the 50's-70's, singers were full of soul. You don't have to be a very good singer but rather a good musician, guitarist or lyricist. Dylan comes to mind. He and many others wouldn't stand a chance if it was today's standards that expect to follow a vocal norm or pitch. I don't know what to call that kind of pitching but one example is the opening line of Ed Sheeran's "Thinking out Loud". You hear a lot of this generation's singers do that, especially on American Idol and The Voice which I'm not interested partly because they use that style. I even heard some guy with a Texan accent try to put that on a country song which makes it sound not authentic for classic country music. The chorus of "Thinking out Loud" also presents a typical norm of how today's singers approach a chorus. Back in the day, there was more diversity to vocal styles because the artist's voice reflects what he is or where he came from with a mature voice untouched by autotune, pitch correction and Pro Tools. Today, most vocalists are perfect sounding on the finished product and they all sound like teenagers to me because they just don't sound mature enough to be over 25 and their music, usually centered for spoiled cheesy teenage perception of love and relationships. I'm fed up of that man. No generation is perfect but I just hate the zeitgeist of today's generation and a huge factor to that is their cheesy, teenager, beat driven, commercialized, tech dependent music. It does not match up to me or represent me in any way intellectually. When I listen to 60's-70's music in my playlist, I imagine I was on this imaginary time bubble as if it was 1966-1975. I predict that the near future would be dominated by more of this soul-less, beat driven, tech sounds. Real music is so obscure. There is this song called "I Don't Know Birds That Well" by a duo called MonaLisa Twins. They started as teenagers covering many classic songs of the 60's and 70's but they got better and started writing originals which are HUGELY VERY Beatle influenced. "Bésame mucho" ("Kiss me a lot") is a song written in 1940 by Mexican pianist and songwriter Consuelo Velázquez. It's one of the most famous boleros, and was recognized in 1999 as the most sung and recorded Mexican song in the world.
That 'other' group who did their recorded audition for Decca this same day as The Beatles was The Tremelos - and they DID have some hits, tho nothing like The Beatles. The best know title The Tremelos had came in 1967 with their cover of a Cat Stevens song 'Here Comes My Baby' which was recorded by The Tremelos a number of years before Cat hit.
'Bésame, Bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche la última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte después Bésame, Bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche la última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte outra vez Quiero tenerte muy cerca, Mirarme en tus ojos, Verte junto a mí Piensa que tal vez mañana Yo estaré lejos, Muy lejos de ti Bésame, Bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche la última vez Bésame mucho Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte outra vez...' ; 7 ]
Check out other versions. OH MY! Beatles combine so many brilliant subtle and plain old fun elements in this version. Just recently discovered it. To me it’s like a new/old great Beatles song. They really new how to move a song along. What a gem.
+Roman Kovgan Actually, both Ringo and Pete Bass Drums were recorded at a very low level initially. Check out Love Me Do. To hear Pete's Atomic Drum Beat in the Decca Recordings at the level that dominated the early Beatle's rhythm section on the Decca recording, you have to crank the sub-woofer. By comparison on his post Beatle recordings, when Pete is recorded at a louder level, Pete doesn't use the Atomic Drum Beat and is quite accomplished. Pete Best was an early Rock Drummer. Ringo style is unique, better suited to the Pop Band the Beatles evolved into, before they evolved into artists in the studio who stretched limits of the resources at Abbey Road Studios.

Muchas gracias y felicitaciones. Saludos cordiales. Santiago de Chile, 29.09.16
The Beatles la versionaron de The Coasters, que a lo mejor (ellos) si la interpretaron de la compositora, pero The Beatles nunca han mencionado Consuelo Velasquez, The Beatles nunca tomaron la inspiracion de Consuelo V elazquez para esta composicion, The Beatles nunca han mencionado a Consuelo Velasquez, The Beatles nunca han mencionado a Consuelo Velazquz, AL MENOS TENGO UNA PUBLICACION DE UNA REVISTA QUE asi lo dice

Besame besame mucho
Each time I bring you a kiss
I hear music divine
So besame besame mucho
I love you forever
Say that you'll always be mine
Cha-cha-boom!
Dearest one, if you should leave me
Then each little dream will take wings
And my life would be through
Oh besame besame mucho
Ooh I love you forever
You make all my dreams come true
Ooh this joy is something new
My arms they're holding you
I never knew this thrill before
Who ever thought I'd be
Holding you close to me
Whispering, "It's you I adore"
Yes so dearest one, if you should leave me
Then each little dreams will take wings
And my life would be through
Oh so besame besame mucho
Yeah I love you forever
Make all my dreams come true
Ooh this joy is something new
My arms are holding you
I never knew this thrill before
Who ever thought I'd be
Holding you close to me
Whispering, "it's you I adore"
Oh so dearest one, if you should leave me
Then each little dream will take wings

Let's be fair to Dick Rowe.
He passed on The Beatles but he did sign the Rolling Stones.

I never knew they did this song!! Wow 🥰 I love The Beatles, but I also love this classic song in Spanish. I love this.
This song was written by a mexican artist called Consuelito Velazquez but it is incredible that this song is well known around all over the world because it has been extremely famous and it is a surprise to me that the Beatles sang this song at that time... incredible... I like the cha cha boom thank you to share with us this clip...
Paul McCartney sings brilliantly here, and the rest of the group have a great energy and feel too.

fantastic wonderful interpretation long live Sir James Paul McCartney
No. That was the original James Paul McCartney who died in 1966. The one you see now has been impersonating Paul. Faul McCartney and he had massive plastic surgery to copy the face and voice of Paul. Do some research

Originally written in 1940 by Mexican composer Consuelo Velázquez, Bésame Mucho was released as a single in 1960 by The Coasters, which The Beatles then covered, as they also did with Searchin’, Young Blood and Three Cool Cats.
The Beatles' musical love for México and its music. A Counsuelo Velázquez classic....a universal tune!
Unbelievable, the Beatles were amazing, and I don't know how I missed this one, thus making youtube pretty amazing too for bringing this into my living room.
Esta música transcende o tempo por sua beleza. Já foi gravada por gerações de cantores pelo mundo e continua bela. Aqui no Brasil já foi gravada por nossos maiores cantores ao longo do tempo, sempre com sucesso. That 'other' group who did their recorded audition for Decca this same day as The Beatles was The Tremelos - and they DID have some hits, tho nothing like The Beatles. Paul George John with Pete Best - dr?
i think its correct. Have read Pete Best last act with Beatles was the 15 August 1962.
+Anhalter Udo That's why you hardly hear the drums. Ringo is kinda simple but has a huge presence
+Anhalter Udo yes sir it was pete best
yes that right
