Heat generated by emissions controls and DPF system is my guess. Funny that if you Google Komatsu Engines , it claims that they are known for their reliability, efficiency,, and productivity ! Nice claim indeed ? Certainly worth pulling the engine covers off and check all plug connections ,look for stressed wiring loom, crimped loom clamps and more ,Earth's definitely. There shouldn't be any but check for nice and Rat nests and wire chewing . If it has manual throttle and the deceleration pedal is not used ,will it run ok ? That might isolate the sensor for the decel pedal and allow you to chase the wiring to it . Don't these sensors work on lower voltage ?
The amount of work you do, by yourself is amazing. You are a joy to watch and I love seeing these machines work for you (even when they hiccup). Thanks for sharing, Chris. This was fun.
L04 code with ours was the DEF purge being interrupted. Make sure on shut down the DEF is completely purged before shutting off the battery disconnect. You’ll hear the pump shut down.
Same exact what happened to me. been a few years now. I ran def super low and lights and warnings, then on way back ,, slow mo..... showed i still had some but IDK . It was on JD 333G new , about 250 or 300 hours, had it for about a week and hear nothing, started asking questions and a week latter was told the wiring harness had a bad wire and it was a known problem, they deferred all costs of new engine wire harness and labor to warrantee .. still did me no good for lost time - 1 man show , 1 main piece equipment, it was the whole show. Was nice to know i had the up graded wire harness. reason for not fixing wire connector was JD did not want to repair a harness and still warranty it for 3 1/2 years till original was up. Let us know the out come Sir.
Great job sorry about your dozer 👍🏻 29:15 love how you left the door open on the dump truck that’s nice of the owner to let you use his dozer love how you said see you tomorrow 1:12 love the moon in the sky please don’t get rid of the the d6 or the d7 28:36 love the sound 29:17 love how some dirt fell off the side love how you had your phone charger in your hand 33:55 love how you ran over a stick and how Barney has no steering wheel cover love how you said bed down
Sounds like you have a relay/connector that is getting hot and losing connectivity. When you shut it off, it cools and you can reuse it. Definitely an electrical gremlin.
Or a sensor that is failing. That is the trouble with modern things that have computer in them. You never know what the problem is until it fails completely.
Dang if you do,dang if you don’t, oh how I get that. I would hate to see you let go of one of the bigger dozers, but I can see it sure would be nice to have a back up grade out dozer. You will work it out, stay the course, you’re still making progress. Thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
All machines break down, if they dont, ur not working them, something with the def, that dozer gets used alot, dust or dirt has got in somewhere, u do uze that dozer alot, it works great cor fine grading, thanks for sharing as always 🇺🇲🤙💪👍✊🇺🇲
Had this problem numerous times with big diesel equipment throwing false code which causes poor performance.. every time it was due to low battery voltage.. disconnect battery cables , wire brush battery terminals and battery wire connections at terminals.. make certain terminals are tight afterwards..this usually happens after a lengthy rain shower event..that’s my experience.
Looks like there's multiple reason for the L04 trouble code. Most common reason has to do with emissions or DEF/after treatment of exhaust. Sometimes cutting the battery off will reset it enough to use for a short time.
The L04 code requires a dealer to scan to understand what is truly wrong. The L01 code it was showing is a regen problem. L04 can also be a regen issue also.
I would think getting another smaller dozer as a back up would be a good idea. plus if you have several jobs going you have more options. the issue sounds like the speed/ tracking sencer is glitching.
Intermittent problems are often loose power or ground connections. If you can pull an electrical diagram, check for grounding points and make sure they are clean and tight. With all the vibration on a dozer, a ground connection may have worked loose.
I bet that buying a small dozer or two, pre-death fluid vintage, and adding a cab with a red-dot AC would make for your best purchase ever (so far). 1997 small dozer selling for about the price of a load of fuel!
Awe, I understand the frustration when things that are suppose to be working don't work when you really need them too. I read through some of the comments and there were a few good suggestions, I hope they help you figure out what's wrong. On a better note, thank you for another great video and I loved on your last video, the camera position on the stumper - that was a really great shot! Merry Christmas to you and your family and all your viewers!
Great Video Chris thank you for sharing with us all. If memory serves, isn't that the same dozer that broke down on you doing that pond and cost you thousands in a new computer for it?. Intermittent faults are a nightmare to find and diagnose.... I hope whatever is wrong with it is fixed quickly and not too costly.
This video gives a possible cause for the L04 error code: th-cam.com/video/vm_DEPXWfPk/w-d-xo.html Apparently it can occur if you turn off the main battery switch before the remaining DEF fluid has been pumped back into the tank when shutting off the machine.
It's good that you never let a big fire die out so you can burn more. Sounds like Ol` Betty needs to find a new home and you find a twin for Kenny Komatsu. Keep Wilma and TweeD7 for pushing. Kenny wanted a rest and refill of DEF and fuel. Might be time to check all wire connections on sensors.
Hey Chris, I love your videos and I sure admire your work. I've got a comment about camera placement that you might not got any feedback on before. I noticed yesterday when you had the camera up behind your head that when you were loading logs on the top of the pile the grapple was out of sight above the window frame, and I thought that if I was like 6" lower I would be able to see better. Then today you had the camera down just above your left shoulder and the view was better. Thought it might help if you knew that.
Hi Chris ya equipment is funny that way if it just fails suddenly and now it works fine sounds like a loose wire some where or connector has some moisture in it other then that not really sure awesome job take care
Get rid of the Komatsu with all the emissions stuff on it , Speak with C&C equipment I am sure they could find you a low houred Dozer of suitable size without any emissions systems on it. There are quite a few suggestions inline on how to clear the L04 code, however I am sure you have tried them all already.
Have you considered adding foot or 18” to the top sides of Barney the truck? It would really help with load capacity especially when hauling brush. Since you don’t use a tailgate that wouldn’t be an issue.
Your business has certainly increased as I have watched over the past few years, you have always tried to keep the equipment in good condition, the choice seems to me would be a 2nd small dozer which you can use on different jobs would be best. But I am not going to Monday Morning Quarterback to you because you know what you have to do. Have a nice Holiday season, as these problems too shall pass!
Chris You give always 100 % Power. And this must Your Machinery too give. But Machine have ealier the out point. But how to see You work with other ( Excavator) to carry on. Thanks for this Video Interesting how ever.
Hey Chris, if none of the other suggestions seem to work to get that Komatsu runnin proper, you might consider smudging it with sage. Maybe you riled up a spirit or two taken down all them trees🤣🤣🤣. In all seriousness, you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year and maybe Santa might get you a dependable dozer. Ho,Ho,Ho!
Hi yeah chris! And merry xmas to you and your family! Hey id check all your connections and clean them ! It being in the dirt and hiw dry its been it could be a loose one and is full of dust and dry dirt! And check for leaks
L04 code is Exhuast manifold pressure sensor in range error code. L01 code i saw flash as well is low common rail pressure. Low fuel pressure in the HPCR would give low exhaust manifold pressures. Fuel creates boost. Sounds like a fuel issue maybe spin some new filters on and check for crap in the filters
Every time Chris says im not sure if im gonna more to the fire....the next clip is an inferno. Gotta love it.
2024 seems, has been a good year for you Chirs. Not too much rain and enough to let you burn. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
Heat generated by emissions controls and DPF system is my guess.

@@thatdave86It’s not DPF it’s a DEF quality sensor… it’s going into limp mode cause it’s not dosing properly.
Chris, you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.🎄🎄🎄🎄🎉🎉🎉🎉🍾🍾🍾
The amount of work you do, by yourself is amazing.
You need to get Clint to find you a good old school dozer with no Def, these new machines are a pain in the butt.
MERRY CHRISTMAS CHRIS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
I See a new to you Pre-Emissions Dozer in your future, Talk to Clint and have him go thru one for you so it ready to roll.
Fire burning and Chris hauling still a one man outfit that can't be beat. As always thanks for the video. Take care.
You keep on no matter. Great attitude❤❤❤❤
Hope you figure out dozer issues. Thank you for sharing your work with us.💖😎💖
34:53 Wrap some potatoes in foil, and toss them in the coals to make awesome LetsDig18 Baked Potatoes!
DEF sensors, it’s always the gift that keep on giving! Sorry to hear about it and hope the dealer can get it up and running soon!!
10:06 - With that much smoke, this site is sending a clear message "heavy-duty work in progress"🔥
maybe he has native American blood somewhere in his ancestry 😂

Oh boy! We get a new dozer!
Good luck on fixing your Dozer and hello from Hamburg NY 😊
Thanks for the video Chris like it and for the dozer , Well its that with the new Machine .

I feel slightly uncomfortable right now!
What are ya? 73 ish? I'm sure you did well in your time, but you do know that punctuation has always been allowed right?

Chris i really hope your new truck treats you as good as ol barney has. That ol truck has just been perfect for you.
Another awesome video to watch while I'm laid up waiting for back surgery. Merry Christmas Chris and family.

Hi Letsdig18, this is my favourite TH-cam channel. From one of your favourite kiwi TH-cam watchers.✌️
Hang in there ❤❤❤
On the dash if hold the 4 button and then press 1 2 3 it will take you to service menus. @Trench Media has videos on it.
Come on Volvo, step up with a perfect dozer for Chris. You’ve got the best equipment and Chris compliments it all perfectly.
They don't make dozers lol

I wouldnt be suprised if chris sends that komatsu down the road.
Hey Chris take it easy. I know it is frustrating sometime but your double Tough .. Merry Christmas and Happy new years to you and yours.
Looks like there's multiple reason for the L04 trouble code. Most common reason has to do with emissions or DEF/after treatment of exhaust. Sometimes cutting the battery off will reset it enough to use for a short time.
I think old equipment is better than all these computers in the new machines
I agree
The L04 code requires a dealer to scan to understand what is truly wrong. The L01 code it was showing is a regen problem. L04 can also be a regen issue also.
Time for the Komatsu dozer to get traded in i think.
Merry Christmas and happy new year from the UK great videos
At work they were using a Kamatsu D71pxi to build roads with and rough cut along with fine grading. I was impressed with it.
I would think getting another smaller dozer as a back up would be a good idea. plus if you have several jobs going you have more options. the issue sounds like the speed/ tracking sencer is glitching.
I hate intermittent problems. Sooner or later that dozer is going to let you down. As always, thanks for sharing.
it's a faulty sensor - probably an overheat sensor or a low oil sensor
Intermittent problems are often loose power or ground connections. If you can pull an electrical diagram, check for grounding points and make sure they are clean and tight. With all the vibration on a dozer, a ground connection may have worked loose.

10:12 It’s fascinating to see the 350 in action with the grabber. Massive debris moving going on with that combo 😂
Maybe you need a gremlin bell for it....
Sounds like something is heating up causing the failure since it works after it cools off a bit.
Sorry buddy. Some days just really want to make you throw your hands up in the air. This i guess is one of them. Thanks for the ride.
Chris,
Go on and get that Caterpillar and be done with it!! The new D4’s are wonderful.
I cant justify $300k for a little dozer
Nice video Chris. Hope the problem can be found with the dozer.
You need to do a follow up on some of your larger pond builds. Would like to see the results. ✊️👊🤜🤛👍✌️
brushcommando has a channel and has been doing weekly updates of the last big pond he did
Time to look for a spare dozer

Love that dark, white smoke
Komatsu, I hope you're watching.
I love a fire that smokes like a old steam train
Check all the grounding locations. You have a loose ground
Sorry about the dozer , but Merry Christnas and Happy New Year Chris, keepbuo the great videos,😊
Sounds like some parts need to fall off in the woods 🪵
A lot of phantom errors like the dozer's can be traced to a ground wire or cable needing a screw or bolt retightened.
Some days you get the Bear,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Some days the bear gets you
thanks
Dollar to donuts...it was the DEF.
Christ, I dare you to pick up an egg with the 220 🔥
Check the fuel filters
the pine burns good smoky but good, nothing like a good ol d6
That Komatzu has given you too much trouble in my opinion.

Too bad about the gremlins that stole Christmas, hope you get it fixed soon and enjoy the holidays.
Given the amount of work the Komatsu has done over years, not surprising it broke. Wear and tear happens. Merry Christmas Chris
Need to get Clint to find you a JD 650G.
Maybe you should park the dozer next to the fire lol
Nice work bro
New technology 😢😢. Merry Christmas and Happy New year Chris to you and your family and friends ❤.
some great mackerel skies near the end.

Nobody understands equipment issues more than a farmer. Big or small, we all have them
I wonder if it is an "E gas " problem. With the dozer

A V E R Y MERRY CHRISTMAS to you Chris. May 2025 be a watershed year for letsdig18!!!
Sounds like an over temp problem, or temp sensor.
How about a good low hr non-emmision dozer from c&c
Chris You give always 100 % Power. And this must Your Machinery too give. But Machine have ealier the out point. But how to see You work with other ( Excavator) to carry on. Thanks for this Video Interesting how ever.
Call Clint at C and C ! He needs a road trip.. I’m sure he will let you get one of his 850 Deere’s
Ho,Ho,Ho!
Tigercat makes a heck of a dozer
Probably something so simple and small like one sensor or something stupid
Better go get the C A T LOL Get the 7 and call Wilson lol
never heard of her
I predict a new/slightly used dozer will show up in 2025. Auction season is right around the corner
Dang I hate that kinda problems with anything. But on the other hand MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Hi yeah chris! And merry xmas to you and your family! Hey id check all your connections and clean them ! It being in the dirt and hiw dry its been it could be a loose one and is full of dust and dry dirt! And check for leaks
It's time for a CAT D3 or D4.
Bye bye Komatsu dozer, your days are numbered.
