In denial about Quos greatest period of music. Having to share the spotlight as a 4 piece always pissed him off. Now it's Francis Rossi 's Quo he's happy
I hate to say it, but being that Mr. Rossi was one of my guitar heroes (and I'm American, so you understand that over here anyone who even knows who Francis Rossi is would be as rare as hen's teeth), I wish he would be more straightforward in his answers, especially when asked about the classic period. Piledriver, Hello, Quo, On the Level, the black album (Blue For You) -- those are part of his life's work. Without those albums' success, the later albums wouldn't have really caught on.
@@desmondberry4823 @desmondberry4823 The 'black album' I referred to was the Blue For You album, because here in the US it was untitled, with a black cover, silver lightning bolt, and a round hole showing a silverish record label with a pic of the band and no 'Blue For You' anywhere on the label, except for the actual song.
Francis is a natural story teller. But while all the old school comedy 'asides' were OK in the days when he could double act them with Rick Parfitt they just seem awkward here.
Francis thinks he's funnier than what he is. I think he uses it as a 'smoke screen' to cover up 'something'. I have a few ideas what the 'something' may be. I'm too polite to suggest them though. If Francis gets serious, he may have to explain why he destroyed The Frantic Four. Interviewer " Oh, by the way Francis, can you explain to all your loyal QUO fans why you destroyed the best and greatest Rock Band of all time?" Francis will answer by saying "I had nothing to do with the break up of The Beatles" Francis will think he's being funny, because he knows and we know the interviewer meant STATUS QUO. Francis will say " I didn't do it" "It was the Cocaine that is to blame" Oh, that's hilarious Francis. Seriously, I don't know how John and Alan could've spoken with or had any contact with Francis ever again. Rossi destroyed "The Brotherhood" There's nothing funny about that.
Status Quo died on the release of 1+9+8+2. To say it was Rossi's fault is not true. Coghlan played his role in that fact as well, and tensions in the band did not help. Lancaster was increasingly unhappy with the musical direction and (in my opinion) tried to topple the band, and failed. I wonder if when Rossi lays down his 6 string, will one of the non founding members continue the band? Edwards and Malone certainly have some life left in them.
you do wish he could just do a straight interview for once . and answer respectfully. .so many of us would love to hear him talk about piledriver and all the classic period ,in a serious discussion .like in the way paul macartney would . i think it is as another comment mentioned a form of self defence . a way of putting up a wall .....that was candid though at the end where he admitted how driven for fame and money he is as he doesnt want to be just a skinny dickead you know puttin himself down really .hes nothing to feel bad about ,he was a great looking guy and in the 70s regarded as one of the coolest guys around .the lead singer lead guitarist focal point .and an icon . so why he should feel insecure on that front is strange . i think many quo fans just wish he could be more gracious about the classic albums and the input of everyone on them . sure.. be positive about what hes doing currently no problem even if it is vastly inferior though he wont admit it. but why piss on the legacy its an insult to the fans that helped bring him that ..fame and money , talk about biting the hand that fed you . still hes loaded . and achieved his goal of still keeping the brand alive as a money making machine to this very day . he surely wont lose any sleep over what old quo fans think . its sad though leaves a bitter taste .
Many years ago, I appointed myself as one of QUO's major supporters and harshest critics. I'll get to the Covers albums in a minute. Though my first point of annoyance and irritation is that after Alan & John had left QUO, Rossi & Parfitt shouldn't have been allowed to use the Band name of STATUS QUO. No SPUD & No NUFF, then NO QUO. The Unity & Brotherhood of the best Rock Band in history was destroyed. Status Quo always had contractual obligations controlled by their Record Companies. They were obligated to make a certain number of Covers albums, which they had to comply with, otherwise they would have to pay back 'advance' money. The "Don't Stop" album is one of the worst recordings made under the Trademark of Status Quo. In my opinion, "RIFFS" & "FITLCentury" are brilliant, awesome, fantastic & amazingly great Covers albums. The opening chords on "Takin' Care of Business" are just 'down n dirty' There is no higher accolade than to have Rock Icons doing a Cover of your song. Not only did QUO do the songs justice, they took them to a higher level. Rick does one of his best ever vocals on "Good Golly Miss Molly" Francis 'nails' the tongue twisting lyrics on "Crawling from the Wreckage" "RIFFS" & "FITLCentury" are two of the best Covers albums in history. Francis criticises anything good about QUO, he doesn't like the "LIVE" album, which is the best & greatest LIVE album ever made. Remember, Francis is the Anti-QUO that destroyed THE FRANTIC FOUR. If you don't like "RIFFS" & "FITLCentury" then your understanding of Rock n Roll is very shallow. A saying I've created for STATUS QUO is that "they are damned if they do & they are damned if they do" That's not a Typo. QUO have been criticised for 'sounding the same' & criticised for trying 'something different' 1989's "Perfect Remedy' was a horrible disaster. A few other albums should've been released under another Bands' name and not QUO's name. "The Rossi/Frost Country Rock Band" I need a bucket to vomit into when I think about "Marguerita Time" QUO should've stopped when Alan left. Never sounded as good after Spud left. Francis & Rick proved later in their careers that they could make quality albums. "Rock 'til You Drop" was an intelligent & excellent album. "Heavy Traffic" was brilliant. "In Search of the 4th Chord" was awesome. "Quid Pro Quo" is a terrific thumpin' Rock album. "Bula QUO" is a very cool album. "Backbone" has some good tracks RIP - Alan & Rick

Black album is called Hello all class albums you mentioned

Great to see Frances and rhino so happy as well as Andy keep going lads
You should do a "...sorry, what was the question?!" supercut from all these interviews with Francis! It could practically be his catch-phrase. 😆
My first Album I ever bought
Fair play to the interviewer, Frame is a nightmare to chat to.
"Oh skin up will you" nice one Frame
"Livid; Feed The Welsh"
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I forgive him …😊
Francis is a natural story teller. But while all the old school comedy 'asides' were OK in the days when he could double act them with Rick Parfitt they just seem awkward here.
Still prefer the Rick Parfitt interviews.
More Rick coming up
Watch those then.
Do you really think anyone gives a shit what you prefer? OMG

I think Francis is terrified of being seen as a boring old stager .
Also, was he legitimately looking for rolling papers in his jacket at the very end of the video?!
I wish Frame would stop trying to be funny all the time.
Tries to be like rick. He always forces it lol. I don't find him funny 🤷♂️
How to answer a question about Piledriver with random stuff about things that happened 15 years later...
