Apos official Head-Fi user has definitively said there are NO changes internally. The only change is the pad, and visually on the build as the color is different. It also has a shorter cable. Those are literally the only differences between this limited edition run and the stock R70x. This presumably means if you can at some point get these exact pads separately, you can sonically get the same exact results on a stock R70x by just swapping the pad.

@@SuperBackBacon So it's no longer Hi-Fi = High Fidelity. I have the R70X and basically I have to lower the bass and the low-midrange. I'd never buy a limited-run audio product as a matter of principle. It also just saves me from stress and decision-making anxiety to categorically reject any limited-run audio product no matter the hype. It's already too tempting to impulse-buy something based solely on other people's reviews/impressions, but when there's artificial scarcity, the FOMO and cope just make it too dangerous to objectively make a purchasing decision when there's a time-crunch. It's nice that the price is reduced on this limited-run set, as my other complaint/accusation is that this is just a way to get people to buy something they'd otherwise wait for a sale to pick up. I just hope that this is more of a test platform for introducing more lightweight headphones and refining innovations rather than a flashy one-off, because I haven't ever considered an R70X, but if it's going to be cheaper and more comfortable going forward, I'll keep my ears open for more Audio-Technica stuff.
Yeah, I talked to one of the team members for this at Apos on reddit and basically voiced my concerns about buying a limited run headphone. But I also told them that while I would definitely be willing to buy the earpads separately and I think a lot of people would be very interested in those earpads as a separate product as well. There aren’t many 3rd party pads that properly fit the R70X, most are in the category of “it works, but it’s not a snug fit.”
I agree with you. The whole idea of a limited run product turns me off. Just make a good product and keep inventory in line with demand. I'm never giving into artificial scarcity.
I would be interested in your review of the Brooklyn Bridge. Not the streamer, the actual bridge. Build quality, looks, value for money, relevant comparisons (George Washington Bridge, Golden Gate, London Bridge, etc.), mods, and obviously sound quality.
loved the video Josh! Friendly feedback you should have mentioned it's only available in US and Canada. European fellas and other regions are in shambles. I'm guessing that's why they only make 1000 units? Maybe they test the market to see how it goes and then decide if they will produce more worldwide
If you already have the R70X….please don’t buy these. Apos literally states that the driver is not different, only the pads which is why the sound quality changes. Apos may start selling the pads separately from a Reddit post I saw. Better off buying pads from ZMF unless you want these for purely aesthetic reasons or don’t already own the headphones. It’s hard to support a headphone that is “limited release”. Doesn’t feel right.
I don't get why a good gaming headphone = wide sound stage. Maybe for things like FPS where positional audio is important, but almost every other game I want a nice intimate headphone so I feel immersed in the game. Great sub bass for good explosions and realistic thunder. Dialogue needs to feel clear and realistic while having some weight to it when needed for things like battle cries. I don't need pinpoint positional audio when I'm playing an ARPG or MMO.
Soundstage can make games feel more natural and big. At least to me. When I don’t have good soundstage and a lot of things start happening in game it becomes congested.
Being a R70x user and in the UK I couldn't get these even if I wanted them but the ear pads would be of interest to play with (as I think would be the case with many R70x users) Overall I really don't think there could have been any other internal changes otherwise they would be saying so (and they aren't) so it really seems like an R70x with thicker earpads, shorter cable and gold grills (and a lower price)
