  • Welcome to the mindbodygreen podcast! Each week, host Jason Wachob, founder and co-CEO of mindbodygreen, engages in open, honest conversations with the people shaping the world of well-being. Today’s featured guest is Dan Buettner, a longevity expert, National Geographic fellow, and founder of the Blue Zones.
“People who have at least 3 friends they can count on on a bad day live about 8 years longer than people who are completely isolated," he says. In this episode, Dan and Jason discuss joy, social connection, and underrated longevity foods, plus:
    0:00-0:47 Intro
0:47-2:46 Dan’s Blue Zones work in the past year
2:46-6:02 Dan’s journey to find “lost” foods
6:02-11:29 Why processed food is often cheaper to make
11:29-16:40 How individuals can help change the food system
16:40-22:38 The role of joy & social connection in longevity
22:38-27:58 The richest food cultures in America

Yay! My book came today, absolutely beautiful! It would be REALLY nice if some of the foods mentioned that are not familiar to some of us were listed in a resource guide, so we would know how to obtain them for the recipes.

The village in Sardinia which has the most centurians, eat mostly pork, sheep, goat and cheese. The little vegetables they eat are mainly tomatoes. Some seasonal fruit. They would put half a sheep on a spit roast on a Sunday and eat the left over for the week. They cure meat. So nuch for the theory that cured meat is carcinigous and eating red meat is bad for you.

Japanese people eat meat in all 3 meals , can be Salmon, or chicken, or Pork. And from what i see its not only a little for taste its a good amount .We see this all the time in tv shows that talk about Japoneses dishes , they go there ans show us the familys eating and they eat a good portion !! Do not understand why Dan always say they eat meat only 2 times a week !! something stange here !

How much fish is in sushi? A timble's worth.
The cooking shows are usually recipes for special meals. Most people in blue zones cannot afford meat & fish on a regular basis. These people, are for the most part, poorer people.
