I love watching how you restuff your envelopes!! I also wanted to suggest to you instead of giving up on the Summer camping trip why not turn it into a "backyard" camping event. You now have a back yard and I know that my boys at that age loved exploring their own backyard just as much as going away for camping. You can pitch a tent and pack snacks. Flash light explore after dark....looking for those night insects and animals. There are so many different activities that they could still enjoy.

Love watching you while I do my budgetting. Currently planning my 2023 budget and sinking funds and setting up my planner. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season! As far as videos, I like everything that you do but right now I am especially enjoying watching people preparing for 2023... First year ever that I did not go into debt because of Christmas. It feels SO GOOD! Thanks for all you do!

Thank you so much Nancy! I just launced a 2023 goal setting video announcing my big goals for 2023. There will be more 2023 prep and budget videos to follow. Thanks for putting this on my radar, I've been so busy I didn't even realize we are at this point in the year! 💗

At one time my mom made a list of chores and each one had a monitory value. I could pick which ones I wanted to do based on how much I wanted to earn. I could only do each chore once a day.
I was paid after each chore or if I had several listed, when I was done. If I did everything I could get @3 dollars but I only did everything once or twice. At the time I was in @ 9 or 10 yrs old. So some of the chore were more than your little guys can do.
I was also lucky enought to have a little store at the end of the street (less than a block away) that I could go get an ice cream or candy.

My mom did the same. I kept a ‘checkbook’ and deposited my allowance into my ‘account’ and wrote checks to my mom when she paid for stuff for me and then had my ‘atm’ cash I’d get from her when I wanted cash

I heard from a budget mom that every time when your kids don’t want to do chores or doesn’t complete them take money from them like $1 or $2. And she says it worked!! Lol
You should make a video of you stuffing that cash 👍

Your budget your way. If you need to reshuffle, recategorize etc I say go ahead. I decided to invest in new bras this month as they were not only a good price but crazy comfy as well. I have needed them for a while now but kept putting it off. I saw them, bought them, and am pleased. They may have been there next month but I waited for Marshall's to get some back in once that were wonderful and alas they never did. So, I say if it does not break the bank; makes a difference in how you feel, live, sleep then go for it and rearrange the budget.

Good plan on budgeting for the teacher. That is how I handled my rent increase. The landlord gave me a 2.5 month notice of it increasing and I immediately added the new amount to my budget. That way I knew I would have it when the increase took place.

Yes please show us a restuffing so we can see how it kind of spreads back out:) I grew up doing chores because that’s what was expected and you contributed to the family by helping out. As I got older money was used more as a reward (extra gas money, eating out, fun) for going above and beyond my regular chores. There’s nothing wrong with using it as motivation to teach kids how to earn something but helping out around the house shouldn’t be an option either way. “You do it with a good attitude, you earn money. You have to be told over and over and complain, you still have to do it but earn nothing.” It’s definitely a learning process but will benefit everyone in the end!😁

Love this video. I just reorganized my binders also. I’m a single mom as well. I have 3 boys and we just moved into our own place again. So having to adjust the budget some. Will be buying the place we’re in now more than likely. The way I do my boys’ allowance is they are paid every Friday for doing their chores and behavior for that week. The amount is based on their age. They then do their savings challenge and put that amount in savings and the rest is theirs to do with as they please.

I used to have an amount for each chore for my boys when they we little. If they didnt want to do them they didnt earn anything or earn a lot if they did all of them. That way they learnt you dont get paid if you dont want to work. They also had a picture on the wall of what they were saving for to keep them motivated

Awesome video Jordan. You have an amazing ability to adjust and adapt. Good job. Suggestion for books...I always bought books for my boys but I do wish I was more selective. If I had it to do over, I would make the Library a priority and when they got intrigued by an author or series....invest in that series. Thanks for all you do.

Just an idea for your kids and chores. If you pay them $2 the days they clean but if you are wanting them to clean and they are not. You could give them the $2 the day they clean but the next day they decided not to clean so you are picking up after them they have to pay you back a $1. It might motivate them to clean A) to get paid B) they might not want to pay you back. Just an idea.

    • @MarietaQueta
      @MarietaQueta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I like your idea better than mine. No need to read it though. It is lengthy.😅
I was about to suggest not to give the raise straight forward but make it in some sort of progressive task way:
First announce that you'll give them a raise next month if they do their daily chores and an extra one that will be done like 3 out 7 days every week. They aren't doing their tasks after all, so giving a raise without working may send subconsciously the mensaje of "Want a raise? Do nothing". I may be wrong but I guess that won't be what you intend to teach them with their allowance. Raises come with extra responsibility, don't they?
Then you can tell them that if they show their compromise within 15 days you may start the $2 pay by earlier. You can make a monthly task tracker for their chores with the daily and eventual tasks. Mark the mid-month as visual reminder that their actions can speed up their rewards.
If you are willing to keep increasing their allowance later, you can put into business-like mom, I mean mode, and tell them in x months will be the next review of their work, if they keep up the good work or even show proactivity in doing more there might be another increase.
You are in a new space and the things that need to be done might be different from what you used to do so flexibility to adapt is important for the three of you. And it can be implemented as needs raise over time.
The 'new home" honeymoon is over, now the house is bigger and it comes with more work and more benefits. ☺️

When I was growing up, especially around your boys’ age, I think I only got a dollar or two a week (yes, inflation is a thing, but still). It really helped me learn to save my money for things I wanted. Was a pack of gum really worth all the chores I did all week? I think by the time I hit high school, I got $10 a week if I cleaned one of the two bathrooms and had emptied the dishwasher whenever I needed done. I also think I vacuumed pretty often. To me, picking up after yourself should just be expected, and not necessarily a chore.

Regarding your allowance for your kids. I was thinking that you might have a chart that shows if they do these chores they’ll get a dollar if they do those chores plus these chores you’ll get two dollars and maybe take it up to I don’t know three for five dollars whatever you wanna do but in order to get the higher amounts they would have to do more chores and see if maybe that works if your two dollar increase doesn’t work. Just a thought

I liked what another commenter stated about having different values based on the chore……..but I also feel they need to learn responsibility. When they become adults no one is going to pay them to pick up their clothes or whatever and they need to learn that they aren’t going to get paid for things they are supposed to do. Having to “motivate” them scares me that they will just say forget this and you will be doing it all because no matter what you pay they will not want to do it and you will have to and they will grow up and learn to do nothing.

This question is for anyone...do you keep your cash binders in a safe? If so, can you give me the name and where you purchased it from. I went on Amazon but I see a ton of mixed reviews on many.

Who do you use for the placeholder money? I didn’t see the link in the comments but I probably looked right over it 🤦🏼‍♀️

I made it to the end……very nice video, my kids used to get $5 a week and then it went to $10 when they turned 7 and 8

So when you start off after you label everything like how much do you put in each clear binder till it fills up or do you put the amount that the bills is in it?
