I cried watching this. There will never be a number 9 like Sir Alan Shearer.
shearer - the best ever. it brings tears to my eyes every time i watch him play with such passion and drive, week in, week out. if only owen/ameobi and the likes could do the same...
I'm not a particularly big fan of Alan Shearer, but this gives me goosebumps. Quite beautiful.
Ive been a fan of newcastle for 10 years and he is such an inspiration to me. he epitomizes the spirit of newcastle and of what football means to every young kid having a kick about in the park, scoring a goal and raising his arm to celebrate like his hero. as he said to pull on the black and white shirt in front of 52,000, wearing the captains armband .. its a special thing and if I had the choice of any club in the world it would be newcastle. we love you shearer!

I cried watching this, I was born in 1994 and grew up watching and supporting Newcastle United. Alan Shearer is my hero and he is the best striker that has ever played football. You can have Messi and Ronaldo, I'd rather have Shearer in my team.
To me, Alan Shearer is not just a random successful football player and he's more than 'just' a legend in terms of sports. He's what football has had very few of: An icon. A humble, fair, honest and warm-hearted everyman who decided to play for the team who grew up to love instead of playing champions league with Manchester United.
And he's damn right about another thing: Others might not understand the choices he made, but any geordie will.
I'm a villa fan, but i have to say that I think Shearer is the best premiership player of all time. Not as talented as some others, but hard work, passion and commitment made him a great player.

I might be a Liverpool supporter but really theres no doubting that Shearer was a great striker, the toon were lucky to have him, brilliant player, he'll never walk alone

I miss players like Shearer, they are a dying breed nowadays, especially with the amount of money being thrown around....it's too bad that there isn't more loyalty to club anymore, for most it's just about the titles.......not to guys like this though. It's about the team and the more importantly the fans.
All the trophies in the world means squat compared to the legacy this man left.

And his love for the team was the best thing of all... Here in Brazil we have few like Shearer... Two goalkeepers... Rogerio Ceni from Sao Paulo Futebol Clube (that one who got Gerrards shot at the FIFA Cup in 2006)... hes in his club since 1994... and Marcos from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras...

I think you will find that Boro/Newcastle is a genuine derby match, we are only 40 miles apart ! All the media, Sky Sports, BBC, ITV Sport all call it the Tyne Tees Derby, we do love beating each other though dont we ? Everyone loves to have the bragging rights. I'll never forget how fucking good Shearer was in Euro 96, I was just getting into football then at a young age, that tournament is my 1st big memory as a footy fan, Shearer makes it stand out the more.

We had people such as Alan Shearer, Patrick Kluivert, Michael Owen, Laurent Robert and who do we have now? Leon Best, Shola Ameobi, Lovenkrands and Gutierrez.... not even close to the quality we used to have but still once a geordie always a geordie.

Shearer was the complete all rounder, i do think he took a while to get going again after the bd injury in 97, but from 99 onwards he adjusted his game an you saw the 2nd coming scored his greatest goals in that period, the volleys against everton an villa the free kick aginst united an the smash aginst chelsea, Sheareryou are a fucking legend

Im a boro fan, and love the rivalry between us, Newcastle, and Sunderland, but I have to admit, I was allways a fan of Shearer. Especially for England. I thouhgt he was a fucking fantastic player, the complete forward. I agree with what he said, he has no regrets turning Man Utd down, I'd do the same if I had the chance to play for my home town. Top gut in my oppinion, for England only like :-)

SHearer sadly will never be recognized by many fans to be as great as some players such as Cantona giggs becuase of his lack of silverware but i think being the top ever prem scorer by over 60 goals speaks for its-self it will never be beaten unless rooney does it.

Alan Shearer turned us down twice, but Newcastle United gave Manchester United Andy Cole in 1995 and Cole had more success at Old Trafford than Shearer had with the Magpies.

@jmcle884 as far as i'm concerned, we're very much indebted to shearer because when alan opted for blackburn instead of united, sir alex ended up signing a little known french lad called eric cantona from leeds. and the rest was history. thank you alan! and yes, we will never forget you man.
