I started watching Film Riot in like 2010. Literally would sit at my computer every Thursday and refresh the page until the new episode popped up. This channel taught me so much in the beginning of my career. Good to see you guys are still going!
@@kimtae858 there are zero ads. If the channel person wants to say here is our sponsor for today then no it doesn’t remove that as that is baked into the video. But no pre roll, mid rolls, or anything added by Google. All that is gone. Just looks like a regular video. You can manually skip through sponsored content which is what I always do
"But before we get to our sponsor let's hear from our other sponsor about a great new sponsor we've got, and let's hear about THEIR sponsor... oh and 30 seconds devoted to what this video is supposedly about." Too much selling man, just too much, it's killing it - these videos are virtually unwatchable now, the supposed subject matter is just an excuse to plug the sponsors ! 😥
Could you guys make an episode specifically for someone attempting to write a short film but has a problem with it ballooning out of control? Me for example, I've got some interesting ideas for short films I want to direct, but I can't seem to stop those ideas from becoming a 45 minute short films. What are good methods to scale down your idea into something feasible without feeling like you had to sacrifice everything? Cheers!
As a professional audio mixer, I never use 32 bit float because it's not necessary for 99% of everything you do in film. If you can actually record audio correctly and gain stage, you dont need the extra amount of useless audio you have to get rid of in post. Most post audio people don't want to deal with 32 bit float either. Also half this video is product advertising for overpriced headphones and prosumer audio gear.
For a 10 minute video, I really feel like I just sat through a really long advertisement loop. I'll be honest, I didn't even watch the entire video. After the first few minutes of the video feeling like it was never getting to "the point" of the title, I started to skip around and only landed on more ads baked into the video. They're cool headphones, but they're also $2000+.
But you can still clip the input before it converts to digital a very good one will give you around +24dBu, that distortion is locked in to the signal regardless of the digital scaling.. this effect is more likely what's happening when you scream into a microphone as well as limited mechanical movement of the mics diaphragm
Heads up! There have been multiple people with issues on youtube and forums with the current rode system. There are plenty of cheap alternatives that are recorders only and the zoom h1 h4 and h6 are getting re released with 32 bit float in a couple weeks if you have any issues with a cheaper wireless systems.
In terms of wireless feeds: Rode works with Bluetooth tech, which creates delays in the audio feed. This tech also accepts interference that could cause noise, interruptions. Pro sound mixers don't usually use them unless they have nothing left, and are desperate.
Don't forget, you still have signal to noise ratio, at least. You will always get analog limitations such as noise, sensitivity of membrane, etc. And 32 bit float doesn't solving this.
There's a lot being worked on/pitched behind the scenes. Nothing I can talk about yet, but hopefully something lands so we can share this year. Fingers crossed.
Could you guys make a video about the hierarchy of the post process and how data should be handled? This is the first time that I, as an indie VFX editor, and working with an outside colorist. He wants as raw of a footage as I can give him, but I have a lot of VFX in this short and a lot of linked comps. I don't know if I should be trying to make the VFX look like they're RAW or should I be doing a preliminary color pass? IDK how best to give him all the After Effects files when I transfer the drive or if I should be exporting their effects. Render and replace isn't always working for me, or I'd do that. I just have a lot of questions about how the footage gets from on-set into the hands of the editor, VFX, sound editor, and colorist and in which order those tasks come in.
Nice to see a little content with the ads. Also, it's really great to see a cheap Rode wireless system paired with $2000 headphones! It make SO MUCH sense!
As a professional audio engineer practicing for over 10 years. I can't recommend the vsx headphones by slate audio enough. At a low price point of $400 they beat anything out there at the prosumer level
I've been subscribed for years! Years and I thought you guys stopped cause it stopped showing up on my main page. Last video I've seen was like 3 - 5 years ago.. And I saw this come up then checked your page and I'm like crap... I have a lot of catching up to do. But I love seeing everyone all grown up you guys still have the best humor imo, and the little sister is a whole adult almost gosh where does the time go! Anyways. There isn't much of a point to this comment except to give you guys your flowers for being awesome for over ten years
what the heck, seriously this is just 5 minutes of advertisement for a headset (and hosting service)? with a 2 minute explanation and 2 minute example, even tho half of the video was content it felt more like that i just watched an ad.
The comparison of actually adding the amount of information to logarithmically changing the resolution of information in given areas is plainly wrong. With log, you've stretched the resolution in certain areas where the change in amplitude of signal is small. Stepping from 24 to 32 bits is adding space for information.
Audio mixing tip that I discovered. Mix with shit headphones until it sounds good. Then switch to the good headphones and finetune to rid noise and add "texture" to the sound. That way, if somebody watches your masterpiece on a crappy little cellphone, it doesn't sound crap because you've already catered the audio for those kinds of devices. Also, I'm gunning for the Godox Virso M2's as an affordable (half the price, but also, not 32bit) alternative to the Rode Wireless Go's
Those headphones look sick. I use the Sony wh-1000xm4 for editing and enjoy those. The Rode mics seem good but they are too big. I like using a lav as it’s less distracting.
What lav mic(s) would you recommend to use with the Rode wireless pro please… lol, by the way, the dancing figure in the 32 bit stinger, looked amazingly close to “turbulent displacement”! Which…is a good thing, we don’t get enough of that anymore…haha. Thank you in advance, CC
How are the cans tuned to frequency response? Are they flat? Warmer for punchier bass? I use the Focal Classics for when I need to mix for headphones, mainly because they’re faithful to the original mix and don’t add artificial selective frequency boosts. But, they’re old and getting tired, so am in the market for new cans.
@@Aliendude3799a it's insane to look at all intense shots in the beginning of the videos, with those expensive cameras, but not one boom operator. I hate this videomaker/early career film maker culture of wanting to have crazy expensive camera gear, and not even the bear minimum for sound
@@AlucardaPapere unfortunately in most cases, nobody really cares about the sound. Which is really unfortunate because we do much more than people realize. Which is why we need to educate those on set.

The Zoom H1 Essential for $99 even now supports 32-bit float.

In all the time you've been doing film you've not discovered recording a second track (back-up track) at a lower volume?
I mention doing exactly that in this episode. 🤣
