не могу не поставить лайк за смешение металла и дерева, это всегда смотрится превосходно, а уж работа, сразу видно человек любит мастерить своими руками да еще и с фантазией.
Absolutely beautiful! I didn’t realize until this very moment that I had a furniture “type” your projects really speak to me. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
I love watching makers with little workshops, using unsponsored tools, producing top quality work. It's inspiring to those of us without the $100,000 shops!
I work at an old school wood cabinet shop so I found watching the making of a cabinet with metal and your approach to doing so really interesting. The final result looks great.
When you figure out this is basically made from scraps he already had.. He did one hell of a job, especially like the use of signage for the bases... wouldn't of thought of that.
50 years from now, this will be sitting in someone's home after the industrial used look becomes popular again. Well done. Really like the look of the metal, wood, and especially those handles. I might have to duplicate that part on a smaller scale.
Way to go there I think. I must admit I paced my way through the footage trying to see if you machined the ends, as given you have a lathe, that is the way I thought you would do it. Merry Christmas by the way, Brisbane, where I live, is hot and steamy today as I am sure it is for you in Townsville. Good stuff, thanks again. Bob.
The remarkable information you provide to your viewers needs to be applauded. I sincerely appreciate your effort to expand your viewers knowledge. A sincere thank you!
I rarely leave comments on TH-cam. I have to say mate, you can’t but that in a store! Great craftsmanship, it’s priceless. Family heirloom piece for sure! Thanks for sharing all your efforts!!!
Hey Scott..... Been trawling through your catalogue of videos.... As I have for a few years, on and off.... Always dig your projects.... But one thing that I must have missed, is your preferred metal finish technique..... What is the process you use? I love the rawness of it, but it has a little of a black oxide feel..... Are you just oiling the surface and then a microfibre buff? Fess up! I really would like to know! Cheers.
Ok, time to fess up. This cabinet was paint stripped to bare metal leaving the mill finish (Blackish blue). If I used a grinder it would go to the silver raw look which was not what I was after. On this one I just put a clear acrylic on it and it's fine. Two pack clear would be harder and better though. New projects from here out I will use Penetrol. I have used wax on raw steel too. That needs to be reapplied. Some projects I like the black look with the raw ground silver with a clear over the top. Looks kind of vintage then. Thanks for the comment!!
+1. I came here to say how much I liked the handles. I might have missed it, though - did you flare the ends of the rebar, or did you tack weld them to the brackets?
Thank you Phil, much appreciated. Thanks for all the laughs over the year on the podcast, it's a really fun listen. Merry Christmas to you and the family - keep smiling!
Beautiful work! When you have a bench lathe and a small shop, under tool storage is the way to go. It's so much wasted volume and lathe tools are small. They fit really nice in small drawers. If I get another bench lathe, I may imitate this. My Logan 10" is sitting over a couple Lyons small bin cabinets the same way. It makes the lathe really tidy and self-contained.
Thank you! My lathe tools only take 3 drawers so for the rest I can contain lots of other tools, neat and tidy. It's working out great, well worth the effort!
Thanks Dario! Yes building the project is one thing. taking the video and editing to try and keep it interesting and brief is a whole other mammoth task :)
It looks fantastic. I'm curious why you didn't strip the steel while it was in pieces. Were you afraid it would rust before you assembled and protected it?
Thank you, yes rust was a consideration, and I'm impatient and wanted to get into the build. I used the stripper, then scraped off the paint but the residual was a pain so I used the wire wheel. That worked but took forever. In the end I used acrylic thinner and the residual paint just wiped off. I know better next time. thanks!
Thank you Alec. I do like to get a nice finish and there is a joy and care going into every piece. These things will outlast me well and truly, so in some ways it's like leaving a legacy.
Just found your channel from Jay Bates. This lathe cart is awesome! I put up a lathe cart build video on my channel recently, but it is NOTHING like this! Well done.
Yep...he had you on his Interesting Things From Around the Web on his website. He posts that weekly...just projects and videos that he has come across that he finds noteworthy.
That came out so incredibly beautiful! I can't believe you built that! I mean it really looks like it was fabricated in a Factory assembly Line where tons of them are built over and over! By that i mean it Looks Perfect! And is Definitely Unique and a True Work of Art!!! Literally One of a kind. I just subscribed, great work Bro! hope you and your family have a Very MERRY Christmas!!! And a Happy New years! take care, bye.
I can only give your comment one thumbs up and one heart, but thank you so, so much, made my day!! Merry Christmas and have a prosperous New Year. See you next time!
Scott Turner Hey Thank you Very much! And You're More than Welcome! I truly wish i had the ability to make such Beautiful Things! Cant wait to see more of your Work! When im not so busy i hope to watch more of your Build Videos lol. Take care Bud!
crimson knight same here. Just out of curiosity, do you have a store? Awesome piece! Have you collaborated w any visual artist's/ Interior designer's?? Happy New Year! Xoxo
I don't know - looks a bit wobbly and fragile to me ;-) (this is what passes as humor around here). Seriously, it looks amazing! I don't think I can bear watch you cut any more stencils out by hand though, so I will cut you some on my laser. Check your email.
Hi Michael, my floors wobbly or I'm going to need to shim a leg :) I replied to your email, huge thank you! Also, thank you for the feedback, it''s great reward, cheers!
This is quite a nice cabinet. Looks very sturdy, and like it will hold up to anything you might use it for. Even though it was made from reclaimed materials, it almost looks too good to use.
I'm in awe of your vision and skills. The mix of wood and steel is a timeless look and you nailed it. I gotta buy myself a welder and learn how to use it..
Wow that thing is BEEFY. And beatiful! I'm impressed you put that much effort into shop furniture, I think a lot of people would like to have that in their living room :) And I always like when people repurpose materials. Although stripping paint is indeed a pain in the ass.
I'm a jack of all trades master of none. Striping and redoing gave me the look I was after but if I had to get the same result by trying to paint it, well I probably wouldn't attempt it. Cheers anyway!
Really awesome! I just found your channel! I'm super impressed with how you stripped the paint off the plywood then sanded without burning through any of the plys. Question, how do the rebar handles stay in the brackets? Do they tend to slide side to side or did you somehow peen them over so they wouldn't fit through the holes once installed?
Hi William, glad you found me. I have about 23 full sized 3/4 Ply sheets all industrial painted. I got those from a business closing down so I've had plenty practice sanding those darn critters :) The handles rebar I machined a slight shoulder at both ends, basically knocking off the raised portions. They are undersized very slightly to the hole so once installed cannot slide out. Sorry I didn't video that part. All the best and thank you for the feedback! I'm one of your subscribers so I'll see you next time.
I am a carpenter friend and let me tell you that the work you did is a very beautiful work of art that is the best carpentry that can exist is super strong and I practice something made to last a lifetime I congratulate you how many hours of work you could make that furniture bellesa ?? Very very beautiful my respect
Thank you so much! I do my best to build strength into the piece. I think we should make things that last the test of time. There is a lot of work, many hours in making all these custom pieces, but it is worth it. All the best to you and thank you!
Thankyou. I didn't film it but I slightly reduced the diameter of the Re-Bar at the ends using the lathe. Can do the same with a Grinder. The raised portions stop the bar from sliding out.
I would of drilled and tapped the ends of the re-bar for a short bolt just to continue the industrial look... But I love the look and theme of this Cabinet!!!
gotcha . simple , simple . I would have pinned and wasted time and energy . sometimes I build something and get stumped so I leave it. returning after a night of sleep the answer comes so quickly. I do not have a lathe , would love to have one , but yes a grinder good second. if you can site your make and model lathe. going to subscribe either way. been watching a few others . all excellent. loved it.
That is a spectacular lathe bench, awesome job dude! Was it made "on the fly", or did you follow plans? I've just taken up stick welding to broaden my skills as I'm always looking to make something or other. As it happens I'm in need of a better bench for my 1940s Grayson lathe and they way you knocked your bench together looks very straightforward so it's inspired me to have a crack at it myself, though I'll probably change the storage arrangement to suit the tooling and sundries I have for the lathe. Thank you very much for sharing, I'll check out the rest of your vids now and already subbed for more ;)
Huge thanks for the sub, and comment! I don't go off a plan, but I do a rough sketch and go from there. The build really is pretty straight forward. It's easier than joinery, because with steel you can just do but joints, weld it and the joint is done and strong. I hope you enjoy your build, and all the best!
That’s a lot of work! Looks great. You should pull your drawer bottoms and score “X”s in them facing up. That way they won’t sag over time from weight and hang up on the drawer underneath.
I've been a fabricator /builder of everything guy most of my life & I have a big fab/jig table where I clamp my material down to prevent heat distortion from welding & I distribute the welds in different areas in order to minimize warp. I wondered how you made out with yours until I saw it rocking around on the floor. Looks great though! I'd like to build one with heavy duty ball bearing drawer slides so that you could put some weight in them.Another thing, I strip any coatings off first before fabbing ........a lot easier than getting in all those corners afterward. I'm not being critical, just commenting on the way I do things.
Thanks Rob. I'd love to have a proper welding table. My shed floor is not so level. I moved the cabinet to its current spot and I did use a small shim and it's fine. Yes Ball bearing runners will be put on future cabinets. In saying that these drawers slide just fine after I waxed the runners, and they are loaded up. Stripping - no big deal. Thanks mate!!
Very nice indeed. Excellent workmanship! I would have added another panels to the sides but from the outside, I think that would look even nicer. Great work
Awesome build. Something I thought of while watching that may be cool to go back to later is cutting out holes in the back of your shelves for use as handles when you take drawers out to work the contents, since you left them removable. Could be neat to have, and not totally destructive to what you've made already.
They say that doing the same thing over and over again is a sign of insanity........ Am I going insane, because I keep watching your videos over and over again. Awesome as expected Scott. Very inspirational and looking forward to starting some very similar builds to go in my new shed I hope will be built very soon.
Nice Work! Was loving the Diresta style high speed, then noticed what looked like one of his Ice Picks when you were laying out the handle screw locations. 👌👌👍👍💪💪
Yes need to use high speed because there are so many process. Jimmy certainly influenced the style. Yes the pick, passed from his hand to my hand back in October :) Thank you!
Very nice sir. I'm in the process of building a woodworking bench. I was a weldor before I retired. It will have a box tubing frame and a 2x4 top. I hope it comes out half as well as your bench did.
WOW ! That's some impressive work. I can truly appreciate all of the work involved in making that, as I have done similar projects. They are very time consuming, but well worth the end product. Thanks for the great videos.
Doug's Welding & Fabrication thanks Doug! You are so right. Lots of little details, very time consuming but what you get is something very useful and to me valuable. Cheers!
wow well done!!! good thing for the ice pic!!!
Thank you Jimmy! Yes the Pick got a small cameo and its been spotted by a few! All the best and thank you for the feedback.

This is the prettiest lathe stand in history. Awesome build.
Thank you John! Love the podcast - love your work all the best!
I love watching makers with little workshops, using unsponsored tools, producing top quality work. It's inspiring to those of us without the $100,000 shops!
Where there is a will there is a way. Huge thanks!
Can’t agree more with that statement. It is inspiring.
I admit the most of the time I question your methods, but your end results always stand out. Simply put, WOW!
I try and make do with the materials, tools and space I've got and attempt to make the most of an idea. Thank you!
Those handles are friggin' AWESOME. Love this build.
Thank you Jim!!
Loved those rebar handles, the whole thing looks great.
Awesome - Thanks for watching!
That thing is a beast! Also one of the best looking ones I've ever seen! Congrats on that thing, you did a fantastic job.
Thanks Tony - the drawers have filled up fast!
^
I work at an old school wood cabinet shop so I found watching the making of a cabinet with metal and your approach to doing so really interesting. The final result looks great.
Hi Eric, Thank you. Yes some people love wood and others metal and then there are those that love both. Lots of different techniques for all.
Incredible craftsmanship. Absolutely love it. Bed liner the inside of the drawers would be a nice and durable touch.
Awesome, thanks Lance! Probably do some foam rubber cut outs for the tools.
When you figure out this is basically made from scraps he already had.. He did one hell of a job, especially like the use of signage for the bases... wouldn't of thought of that.
Thank you for pointing that out. I try and use what I have first and then do the best i can - that's part of the challenge for me. Thank you!!
Idea for the handles is brilliant
Yes they seem to work well! Thank you!
This is a piece for excibition and not a workbench. Very beautiful Scott. I love the design
Thank you! I'll exhibit it in future videos - to darn heavy to move around :)
Especially love the handles! Adds certain Muscle and Scale. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, i will be imitating!
50 years from now, this will be sitting in someone's home after the industrial used look becomes popular again. Well done. Really like the look of the metal, wood, and especially those handles. I might have to duplicate that part on a smaller scale.
I hope it's around for many years. I was built for a long life. Thanks Travis!
the handles really make it extra awesome. nice job!
Thank Tim - might be a side hustle making handles. Thank you!
Was turned off by the Rebar handles, but once complete wouldn't have it any other way, Nice job! What kind of wood was it?
Love the handles :) Thanks. Plywood and pine. I used Walnut stain.
Great job. How do the deformed bar handles stay within the brackets, tight clearance or just sitting there?
Thank you, I machined a shoulder on the re bar ends so they cannot come out, sorry I didn't film that part.
Way to go there I think. I must admit I paced my way through the footage trying to see if you machined the ends, as given you have a lathe, that is the way I thought you would do it. You are more of an artist than any other function. Your project skills make your art possible. Good job.

That cabinet is a beauty. Enjoyed watching it. And all that made in less than 15 minutes... Hahahaha
Thanks Dario! Yes building the project is one thing. taking the video and editing to try and keep it interesting and brief is a whole other mammoth task :)
so true. making video of projects makes the project take like 3 to 4 times longer. :-) but, hey, we all love it. nice workshop drawers mate!
Love the handles

Heat works great for stripping metal that is not to thin.
I will try this build just as soon as I get my hands on...a full metal shop. lol. This was enjoyable to watch. Great cabinet.
Thanks Jason. Full metal shop would be nice ;)
I can watch your videos over and over...I'm going to build one myself but a tool cart version....hopefully it turns out as beautiful as yours

Wow!!! Great wood and steel combination. It'll last you a life time and many more. Thanks for your great video...
Thank you - It will last a very long time that's for sure!
your channel is so inspirational for me. Im so drawn to your style, im slowly working my way up learning as much as I can. thank you for your videos.
Thank you so much - it's my pleasure!
Unbelievable!!! Loved watching this, great inspiration.
Very nice indeed. Excellent workmanship! I would have added another panels to the sides but from the outside, I think that would look even nicer. Great work
Thank you! Yes there would be heaps of variations on this design. All the best, cheers!
Gorgeous build, Scott. Looks like I am not the only lunatic that welds in shorts!
Thanks Ernie! We are not alone. However due to popular demand I wear trousers now when I weld, even if it is a tack. I have been cured :)
Awesome build. Something I thought of while watching that may be cool to go back to later is cutting out holes in the back of your shelves for use as handles when you take drawers out to work the contents, since you left them removable. Could be neat to have, and not totally destructive to what you've made already.
Good idea! Thank you for the feedback!
Amazing job on the cabinet! I like how you used a combination of stuff you bought and stuff you already had in the shop! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Monte! Much appreciated!
That came out awesome! You’re very talented, pure craftsmanship.
Thanks :)
Great work. Like everyone else, love the handles, at first I was cringing, until you finished them. Hello from a fellow Aussie
Hey Derek, it all came together in the end. Cheers mate!
Excellent work! I really like the form and function of this project.
Thanks Josh, yes it will be very useful to my work area.
They say that doing the same thing over and over again is a sign of insanity........ Am I going insane, because I keep watching your videos over and over again. Awesome as expected Scott. Very inspirational and looking forward to starting some very similar builds to go in my new shed I hope will be built very soon.
This is one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen.
Wow, Thank You Kristoffer!!
Bad Ass bench , really shows the True commitment to the craft. thanks great job. keep it coming.

Thank you Merton. It's been a great addition to my workshop!
Stunning workmanship, very impressed.
Many thanks David!
Very nice sir. I'm in the process of building a woodworking bench. I was a weldor before I retired. It will have a box tubing frame and a 2x4 top. I hope it comes out half as well as your bench did.
I'm sure it will and it will be strong by the sounds. Thank you!
Cheers!
