Wow, I mean wow. I can tell you did a fair bit of research for this video, so good on ya! As someone who used to study in Melbourne, the free tram within the CBD was my lifeline. In fact, I still use them very often whenever I'm in Melbourne. They're just so convenient! Great video!
Thanks Ryan, the free Tram Zone is an absolute life saver, so convenient. I hope the video wasn't too hard to understand haha, and hopefully my aviation viewers now know something about Trams!
0:59 A huge “Thank you” for showing the 5123 C2 ex-“Bumblebee” ,originally from my city of Mulhouse/France ! I always look out for them in Melbourne tram videos…
Nice one Aidan. 👍 Interesting to hear your thoughts about each class, particularly as most Victorians seem to hate the D class. 02:02 Did you know you don’t actually need to tap off on trams? The only reason to tap off is if you’re only travelling in Zone 2, in which case you get a cheaper fare. 🤔 Lucky to get a HCMT! I’ve been hoping to catch one but not been lucky so far.
Thanks Adam! Yeah I have been speaking to a few Victorians about the D Class trams, and I agree with them. I find the trams we have here in SA are similar to them haha. Oh and I thought you needed to touch off for trams, thanks for the info!
If your trying to get on a HCMT they are a lot more common now on the Cranbourne and Pakenham than they used be, I’ve found every time I’ve caught those lines I have gotten a HCMT.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I moved here to Melbourne in mid 1981 from Sydney, where I had lived previously. I still look on it the best move that I could ever make. My first visit to Melbourne was way back in January 1967, when my dad and I came down here from Sydney for a two week holiday.
This was a great video! Loved the commentary in the background providing plenty of context and info about your trip and the different trams. If you haven't already could you please do another video like this travelling on every type of Melbourne electric train (and maybe also every V/Line diesel train type whether in the same video or another one) in one day?
Fantastic review, hopefully you get on a C2 class some time. being from Melbourne I find you opinion of the d class trams quite interesting, personally, and I believe many others feel the same way but to us the d in d class often stands for disappointing. The reasons being the lack of seating due to the 1-1 configuration(I believe it was due to cracks around the wheels so they added these big plastic things) I personally think they are quite noisy when they accelerate and the “screaming” of the doors 11:28 is another factor. However this is probably one of the best tram review videos going around on yt, keep it up, plus the first train you went on is one of the recently refurbished older trains, they are rather nice
Thanks for watching mate, yeah they do seem like a useless tram hahah, but hey it’s interesting. I live in Adelaide and our teams all look like D - Class trams, once again Adelaide copying Melbourne haha. Anyways, thanks for watching!
1:10 Brisbane didn't get rid of their trams until the late 1960s, Bendigo & Ballarat still had trams into the 1970s, and Adelaide never closed their Glenelg line. Sydney was only without trams for 36 years (1961-1997). 1:55 Canberra and Gold Coast use 750V DC, only Adelaide uses 600V DC as far as I can tell?
That was an incredible review thank you!! I haven’t lived in Victoria since leaving high school in 1999 these videos have brought back so many memories!! The new trains look incredible, it is sad to see burgundy free trams go though.
Possibly one of the best tram run through on YT. Keep it up. You're killing it.
Thanks Tim, thought you would like it haha
