Animals/monsters yeah. :) I love humans, they're just the hardest to tame. Including oneself. But we are powerful, how is that not cool. :) People preferring other animals to raise/adopt don't have what it takes to raise a human and I think it's cool they accept that instead of f*****g up so badly. I'm a human, yay! How priveledged to have video games, movies, music, etc. We completely destroyed the environment and just about everything to do so. But yeah. Hopefully we figure out how to become more sustainable/shrink the population to lessen our impact on the environment.
In my experience, intractable drug addicts are often people who have no other avenues of rewarding stimulation. Depression, mental health issues, PTSD from physical and sexual abuse, lack of intimate relationships, lack of purposefulness through familial relationships and a fulfilling career etc. all contribe to a boredom-promoting environment and experience that smoulders with an unendurable protraction. Obviously opioid dependence can entomb anyone in a chemical prison in less than a hundred hours, but it is always easier to maintain abstinence when the life you return to is actually worth living.
I wonder how the brain would react to having an implant providing stimulation in that area long term? Would one need to constantly increase the voltage as the neurons downregulate dopamine in order to get the same effect, just like any drug?
joining late on the party, but anyways: Without being a full expert yet: too much dopamine gives you schizophrenia. I think if u stimulate your dopamine system for a long time/all the time it will end up like that. Drugs that interfere with the dopamine system can also give u schizophrenia so... maybe that's your answer
@@livchuuxx596 From what i've been reading drugs only accelerates the development of schizophrenia on people that already had genetical pre disposition to have it. But drugs CAN cause undesirable (but temporary) effects that mimic some schizophrenia symptoms. There are a LOT of people (and i mean A LOT REALLY) that was born with problems in the reward system of the brain and that's the people that suffer from ADHD.. peple that suffer from ADHD has less activation on their brain's reward systems.. less severe ADHD means that the reward system has less activation than it should, but still have a considerable level of activation... and more severe ADHD means that the reward system is receiving very little activation. The lack of dopamine and noradrenaline makes pPeople with severe ADHD unable to feel pleasure in being alive, nor even feel pleasure while doing things that should be pleasurable. That's why these patients take doses of amphetamine during the day, wich is drug VERY similar to cocaine... and researches around long lasting ADHD treatments concluded that only people that had pre disposition to suffer from schizophrenia had the risk of accelerating or causin the schizophrenia process.
We use something somewhat similar to this in medicine today to treat Parkinson's disease, deep brain stimulation (DBS). DBS can work for several years, and some work by delivering a constant voltage, others work periodically, newer ones use AI learning algorithms. There are side effects including apathy, hallucinations, hypersexuality, cognitive dysfunction, depression, and euphoria but they can be treatable by moving the DBS electrode around, or changing the voltage or type of stimulation. Personality changes can also occur, but are usually due to the DBS electrode shifting during/after the surgery to put it into the brain. This paper [1] says that _"DBS-induced happiness requires an individual, domain-specific functional analysis"_ So, it does seem to be possible, but would require a very specific analysis of the person's brain to know exactly where to put the DBS electrode. And since many side effects of DBS can be treatable or reversed, it seems like brain-electrode induced happiness could be done with minimal adverse effects. In fact, there are currently studies being done to see if DBS could be used to treat depression and chronic pain. wow thse guys are dumb lol.. let me help.. ok can you have sex or eat without a sense of touch? we typically have 5 senses that work due to greater or lesser experience.. any move in to much of a direction of to great or to less is the result of a lost sense.. this balancing act the body performs.. homeostasis etc.. is why dopemine releases imho due to the 5 senses needing balance.. you see the rat needs sight smell and a sense of touch to use the lever.. so that that 5 sense rebalancing is the dopemine..
also the drug addiction comes from teh 5 senses being altered for the first time.. such as weed, alcohol etc.. this alteration causes dopamine due to 5 senses and the reptile sense of balance in the body..
