That continuous run is amazing! Another long escalator set worth seeing is the Starway at Universal Studios Hollywood. It is broken into separate runs so it doesn't set any records like this one... BUT... it does run 1/4 mile, takes 10 minutes top to bottom (or bottom to top), and the views of the San Fernando Valley on the way down are amazing!

Ironic that it’s in our nation’s capital. It moves about as quickly as our government too.

I hate those escalators in D.C. I was down them once as a kid. Never ever again. I was terrified.

Ah, Wheaton Station! I've ridden these myself and was scared half to death of them when I was like 6 years old. Elevator in the station is WAY too slow for the depth it travels

They are so slow! In old metro stations built during the Soviet era, like in Moscow, St Petersburg or Kiev, you can find even deeper stations with longer escalators, and they are very fast, so fast that you can lose balance when stepping on/off the escalator.

I think the second longest escalators in the system could be at Woodley Park, those were also pretty long, but I bet these escalators at Wheaton probably have up to a thousand steps.

Probably not. US installed the elevators originally but idk who did the original escalators. The most recent modernization was likely by KONE.

All because the park service wouldn't let them run the metro briefly above ground through rock creek park. Utterly idiotic waste and ongoing maintenance nightmare caused by stupidity forced the metro to be buried much deeper there.

      @@tkefan29 Nope. Not even close.
Hong Kong has the longest escalator system (multiple spans that comprise a single ride): 800m long, 135m tall.
The longest single-span escalators in the world are in three stations of the St. Petersburg, Russia metro: 138m long, 69m tall.
The ones in this video (Wheaton station of DC Metro) are the longest in the Western Hemisphere: 70m long, 35m tall.
