When I was young I always used to draw with pen and never used crayons or pencils like other children did, it actually led me to being expirienced well to pen. *I love my younger self*
I was about to say... being the weird kid in the corner of the classroom that only had a pen and a notebook, I did so much sketching with a pen. Even when I was in college. This video hits me with nostalgia. Haha

Fun tip: if you’re especially anxious/indecisive like me, starting out with erasable pens and then going to actual pens can help a ton, while still helping you learn to draw lighter:) Edit:hey guys! The idea is to have the eraser there as a sort of emotional buffer. It’s not meant to replace actually using pens, but rather, help ease yourself into using pens by creating an emotional buffer of “if I *do* mess up, I still have the possibility to fix it”. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and this helped me still feel like I had the crutch of an eraser while still using a pen! I use non-erasable pens now, but I know the erasable ones were a good way to ease into it!:D Plus, it teaches you to draw lightly, because a lot of erasable pens won’t erase well unless you draw light! :D
I actually am very anxious/indecisive, and using pen helped me with that. So I would say if you can manage to, absolutely do go for a permanent pen, might help you get over it a bit.
Really? Good to know! I'm very anxious and it gets in my way a lot. Even more i'm learning to draw and it's hard for me to stay focused and not give up lol Sorry for any error, I'm using translator
A TIP FOR BALLPOINT: keep a paper towel or tissue and after a few minutes of sketching, wipe the tip on the tissue. This works for gel pens too since the ink builds up on one side of the pen as you go.
@louisvilletech7765 From my experience ink from rollerballs, fountain pens and other markers do not have the pressure sensitivity - it's all or nothing. But with a basic pen, I can use the side and lightly scratch things to leave lighter marks. So, I can create different shades like a pencil. And ball pens are so cheap compared to rollerballs and fountain pens.

Pink and light blue is my favorite combination, but I can't say I've given other colors much of a chance since I like those colors together too much. I don't know if it works as well with other colors, but maybe it does.
@@3kay3 I gave it a quick try because the colors look really nice together. So thank you for the suggestion! Here's what I found (for anyone who wants to try): Combining the two colors leads to a light almost salmon pink color. Which means you can't use both colors together for adding a sort of line art or a darker tone (which I usually like to do). I think it's still a fun combination but it's important not to sketch in yellow where you want the pink since it won't show as pink but the lighter salmon instead. Since the pink is the darkest tone of the three and it works best for contrast, you don't want to lose that. So planning ahead before hand is very important with this pen combo. Hope that helps anyone who wants to try or was curious!

I doubt you’ll see this, but I just wanted to thank you again for making me start drawing again. This last month I’ve binged all your videos and have learned so much from you. I recently bought a box of those bic pens, and have been sketching with them. And I’ve been trying my hand at digital art as well. You’re an inspiration. I know you mostly draw girls, but watching you draw people in general is super helpful. Watching you break things down in basic shapes is exactly what my struggle was last time I used to draw. But now, it’s so much easier thanks to you.
I started sketching with a pen a year ago and it has improved my skills so much! It makes you feel so free! Every now any then I do go back to pencil but mainly I use pen irl and digitally
A good thing for when your drawings are feeling too stiff is to use ballpoint pens! Personally, it helps add a bit of randomness and can really release my creativity
I started sketching in pen when I saw my friend do it so I was like “okay let’s sketch in pen!” At first I wasn’t really used to it because I kept making mistakes but it was a really nice feeling because the pens I used were really smooth on the paper. I have the bic pen and that one is really good haha thank you for this video !! 😁👍

My first time to comment on Waffles. But I’m feeling you girls. Mentally, physically, it’s not easy in the here and now. I try hard to find the good things that stay the test of times, and Rin is one. She has cute expressive hands. Family and art keep me hopeful. All you really need is a pencil or pen, and some paper. G Tucson, and Maria Morris your in my thoughts and I hope for the best for you. A little side note. My 44 year old son got COVID 3 weeks ago. It was bad, and I think the doctors were ready for the worst. We got a phone call from him today. Too much to put into words, but he is going to be ok. I am giving thanks today. I hope the best for my TH-cam buddies. Good bye for today. I’ll look for you on Waffles in the comments. Robin
Every time I watch your videos I get so inspired! I often find myself attempting to draw things or do challenges that I’ve recently watched you do and I want to thank you for that! Without you, I probably wouldn’t have ventured out into the vast world of drawing animals and non-human things. Although I don’t draw them as often as I used to, I still thank you for aiding me on my art journey. Thank you, Rin!
ive been sketching with pen for a long time and i love it so much!! i was told its a great and faster way to improve. i started sketching so much more when i started using pen only and my sketchbooks are finally filling up!!
This is great advice!!! The one time I tried drawing in pen, my sketches were super messy but somehow really well-done at the same time, and I really liked the style. I need to keep doing it!!! This was a great video, Waffles!!! TY!!!
The struggle is real when it comes to smudges! 😂 I usually use Sakura Pigma Pens, which dry quite fast, but when I try to draw a straight line with them, using a ruler, I have to be veeery careful how I lift the ruler, otherwise they'll ruin my "perfect" lines. 🙄😆 Anyway, great video, thanks for the tips!

A TIP FOR BALLPOINT: keep a paper towel or tissue and after a few minutes of sketching, wipe the tip on the tissue. This works for gel pens too since the ink builds up on one side of the pen as you go.

:)
rin did 3 welcomes this is going to be a good video and i loved when rin said the sketchbook cotrols me so inspiring!!
how about one more? hehe WELCOME!! 💜
It’s not hard to see why you’re so popular. Very entertaining and informative.
I love this spread!! I find drawing with pen very relaxing, I don't put as much pressure on myself when I do it for some reason. That big one with the long hair turned out great!!!
Omg, I miss you, how r u? I'm rewatching your videos ❤❤
It's definitely evident that you post video ideas that really interest you and I love that
I started sketching with pens when I didn't get time draw that often
and it was really fun (and messy).
This video makes me want to do so again 💖
you learn to enjoy the mess! at least I sure do. love seeing the layers of sketches build up!
I'm just glad I found an artist that can balance the amount of dudes I draw with the same amount of women. BEAUTIFUL!
Ok so I was like...
REFRESH, REFRESH, REFRESHHHHH!!!
when will Rin posttttt???
AND THEN SHE POSTED AND I WAS LIKE OMGG RIN POSTED YAYYYYYY!!!! My day is instantly better.
happy Saturday!! 💜
I have stopped sketching with pencils 2 years ago and its amazing, I have so much more fun and I love the fluidity.
Robin
Some of my favorite pieces were done in pen. It's really fun to experiment and just draw whatever comes to your head and not worry about mistakes!
"Roll the flying waffle"
😂😂😂
Love it
🤭
Every time I watch your videos I get so inspired! I often find myself attempting to draw things or do challenges that I’ve recently watched you do and I want to thank you for that! Without you, I probably wouldn’t have ventured out into the vast world of drawing animals and non-human things. Although I don’t draw them as often as I used to, I still thank you for aiding me on my art journey. Thank you, Rin!
You are such a talented artist! I always love it when you post. You’re funny, happy, talented and inspirational. Go u! 💜❤️🔥
Thank you Sigrid! 💜
ive been sketching with pen for a long time and i love it so much!! i was told its a great and faster way to improve. i started sketching so much more when i started using pen only and my sketchbooks are finally filling up!!
Wow this is amazing: you are incredible forever and always!
Yes!
💯
I started sketching with a pen a few years ago because you of handedly said you like it. And now it’s one of my favorite ways to draw
Can we take a moment to appreciate her nails? You rock, Queen. 😩💅
Thank you! 💜💜
@@drawingwiffwaffles Np!

LOL "BOLD PEN" it sounded like a Pokémon saying it's name!!
A wild BOLD PEN appeared!
I love how expressive you are being with just your hands
“Smudge a smidge” u never disappoint 💜💜
🤭🤭
I use erasable gel pens. you can get them in many sizes I like the .35 size. I recommend you try it. I buy mine from aliexpress
This is great advice!!! The one time I tried drawing in pen, my sketches were super messy but somehow really well-done at the same time, and I really liked the style. I need to keep doing it!!! This was a great video, Waffles!!! TY!!!
You bring me much joy and help me to remember that I love art for the fun, beauty, and learning experience and not to be hyper critical of myself ❤️💕
This was the first video that drew me to Your channel years ago, it's nice seeing it again and watching your growth
I love drawing with pens rather then pencil. Idk why but i feel like drawing with pen makes my drawing more smooth and less mistakes :')
maybe subconsciously you're thinking about each line just a tiny bit more because you know you can't erase? 🤔
@@drawingwiffwaffles u replied my comment 😶😶😶😶😶😶 am i dreaming 🥺omo ajskakak i love u and your drawing soooooooooooo much 😭😭 u inspire me a lot T~T
@@drawingwiffwaffles and yeah i think so cz i can't erase and i Become more attentive and careful towards the drawing 😌 and when i use pencil i feel like i Will make more mistakes 😑
I started watching your videos about a year and a half ago and I have to say that all the videos that I’ve seen so far have been absolutely great. I’m even doing Inktober this year because of you. I’ve learned so much from this channel and you. Thank you for everything
Honestly I always used graphite and charcoal. Once I tried pen. Believe me when I say I can't draw with other tolls anymore. It's driving me nuts! It's only pen! It's stupid and yet here we are. A simple ball point pen
I really appreciate your videos, as a very low level artist your videos have helped me so much from what to sketch, where to start to what art can actually lead to in the future. Thank you ❤️
Thank you for the tips! I’ve never thought of sketching with pens because it gives me anxiety when I mess up lol
I'm so crazy that I'm making stories with your characters in my head while watching the video
