My mother went on holiday and asked me to house sit. Apart from dogs, cats, birds etc I had to get up at four to feed the foxes. I also found if I didn’t get up in time to feed her friend the seagull he would tap the bedroom window, then ring the doorbell.
Pokey must rememerb when he was an abandoned kitten himself, and he's paying it forward. Some people think animals have no compassion, no empathy, but they certainly do.
my mama calico isn't a big fan of bedcuddling, but she'll definitely come check on me if i've been out of her sight for too long and she can tell i'm still home. she's sweet as molasses with the youngest in the family, too, it's just me she occasionally forgets to tuck her claws all the way in with. her (and my) orange tabby boy is nearly a one-person cat, because getting him socialized went a little wonky. (he's super cuddly with me but not big on folks he doesn't see all the time.)
I show hubby some cat's photo and he goes "is he at home yet?". I let him believe that I'm giving him a choice, at least. This guy is so adorable, the way he accepts her "cat craziness"
I think it's a mix of both too. If he wasn't given such strong love he'd likely not be very confident coming from that lonely background. But since he has a solid foundation of love, and empathy through personal hardship, he's become the perfect foster dad to all the kittens he meets
What if you walked into a fast food shop and he was there in a little uniform and he just says "Meow?" as you approach him? The Health Inspector doesn't need to know.
Pokey's story is probably why he's so adorable with these kittens, he would never want any of them to feel like he did, lonely and motherless so that's why he takes good care of them. At least that's how I see it.
We adopted our first foster and he was the perfect companion for every foster after him. He seemed to be whatever they needed whether it was affection or space, rough housing or snuggling. It was pretty magical.
I think the fostered kitten is helping Pokey fill a spot in his own heart where he was separated from his litter mates and Mom. Both the kitten and Pokey benefit and learn from the experience. So touching and exciting! 💗
Yeah, so true, both the cat and the people who foster the kittens, have very open, generous and loving hearts If you look at the husband, how supportive he is of his wife and her bringing home kittens to foster, and how loving he himself is toward them, it's no wonder how huge hearted this kitty boy son of theirs turned out... in my opinion, anyway, from watching this story again, and paying closer attn. to how warm and kind spirited this man seems, just look at his genuine happy smile the whole time, whilst they are telling the story

Most cats get into hissy fits and take a while to adjust ti new members. Pokey is just so special ❤ that he has big heart for fostering kittens 🐈⬛ in need! Love 💕 it!
Pokey knows what it’s like to be in those kittens’ paws and he has so much love and care to give them. My heart aches for Pokey when his foster kittens go off to their forever homes. But he will soon get other kittens to love, care for, play with and teach. I will never get tired of watching this video about Pokey.
Basically this is my house except my blind chihuahua is Pokey. I don't have the heart to tell Stevie, yea that's really his name, isn't a feline. Or their mom. He is obsessed with kittens which make my litters so much easier to adopt out since between myself and my dogs, they're insanely socialized right away. Fostering is the best feeling ever 😍😍
I have watched this video several times and still find it hilarious to see how Pokey has grown and helps with kittens, and his mischievous side when the kittens are gone. I think Pokey is a very special cat !
God bless Pokey and his parents! It’s so wonderful that you foster so many kittens! And very cute to see Pokey’s Mom “wearing” Pokey when he was a kitten!

Pokey is still afraid of being alone and abandoned. Even though he has great parents, the fear is still there. The new kittens are his coping mechanism.
I wish they would adopt another cat so that he has a sibling that doesn't leave, and is a constant in his life. It must be hard on him, to keep getting attached to other cats that keep disappearing, and it doesn't seem like his parents realize just how upsetting that is for him. They describe him as being "antsy" when a litter leaves, but I think it's more than that...I think it's traumatic for him to constantly be abandoned (which is what it would seem like from Pokey's point of view). He needs another cat in the home permanently that he can bond with.
@@leticiacsc Four of their own cats? That should have been mentioned in the video. We're left with the impression that this poor cat keeps getting attached to kittens who disappear.
@@Terri_MacKay Why would they need to mention it? It's not like it's supposed to delve in to the entire history of the family's life and all their cats. It's just a cute 5 minute video about Pokey, who is different in that he's exceptionally good with kittens. That you think he's exhibiting a trauma response when they mention he gets ansty is YOU wildly reaching and projecting your opinion on what they said about his response. I didn't get the impression that he is distressed necessarily; obviously he misses them but I don't think he feels abandoned nor is it traumatic for him-- as the other commenter mentioned, he does have constant cats in his life, so whatever your opinion on him feeling constantly 'abandoned' is wrong. Besides, many cats can exhibit vindictive behavior if they don't get their way-- I adopted my 12 year old cat and he was an outdoor cat all his life. When we got him, we limited his outdoor time compared to before for safety. If he doesn't get to go outside on his terms he'll get all pouty at us, and act up (yowly, crying, climbing all over stuff, knocking stuff off tables). When he gets to run around outside a bit he's all happy and calm. There are other examples, but my cat totally can get 'offended' and it doesn't mean anything is traumatizing him.
@@NinjaDimes I was reacting to the video, which doesn't mention that there are other cats in the home. It is traumatizing for an animal to lose their companions, so, as I said, the video implies that he gets close to kittens that come into the home, and then loses them. And adult cats will become very attached to kittens, even kittens they're not related to. That's why rescuers are able to pair up orphaned litters with mother cats who have just given birth or who have lost their litters...the mother will accept the kittens, and nurse and groom them as if they are her own. Male cats will also develop parental feelings for kittens. I work in animal rescue. I've fostered many orphaned litters, and every one was immediately "adopted" by one of my cats, male and female. And they get very attached to "their" kittens. When the kittens go back to the shelter to be adopted out, the cat that took care of them always spends days crying and looking for them. They clearly miss them, and are clearly upset at their absence. One kitten became so bonded with one of my male cats that we adopted her, and 6 years later they still never leave each other's side. So, no, I wasn't wildly reaching or projecting...I was making an observation based on years of experience with this same situation. It was more than just an opinion, it was an educated observation.

He is something, that pokey! Was meant to be, no coincidence! He loves helping little abandon kittens and helps his mom with their care. He is quite unique, and has a loving family who understands him! Great family!
"I wanna keep the cat"
"I know"
How adorable...
Pokey is such an amazing cat who shares the love he got with kittens cause he can relate to them.
That got me right in my heart.
It's an amazing feeling when you find a cat who absolutely loves you and just wants to be with you 24/7.....for anyone who is thinking of getting a cat I say go for it.... If you find the one it makes life much sweeter....
Might be time to keep one more kitty in order to keep Pokey from getting lonely when there arent any fosters. lol
Mr. D agree
They have 4 other cats living there so don't worry, he's not lonely at all 🐱
What a wonderful cat, he is lovely.

Mom: "We now specialize in singletons."
Pokey: "That's good. I was once a singleton."
Mom: "I know."
Pokey: "This is the way."
All: "This is the way."
I got this reference. How big of a geek does that make me?
@@lisagulick4144 Not much, really. My extremely non-geeky wife loves The Mandalorian as well.
@@RegebroRepairs Wellll...actually, I am pretty geeky. Thanks to my relative who thinks I'm still a little kid, I now own a life-size plush Child...and I'm curiously reluctant to re-gift it...
I see you are a man of culture
@@lisagulick4144
re-gifting sometimes takes time,
