Why Are Charismatics So Weird? Holy Spirit Activate!

  • Hello everyone - I’m beginning a new series on my podcasts entitled “Why Are Charismatics So Weird?” This is the first installment. In this program, we will hear how Sid Roth and prophet James Goll say we need to activate the Holy Spirit. You have to hear this to believe it.
    Please note: Apparently Family Feud is claiming some copyright issue so if you see ads on this video, that is why. They are saying I can use it but they may put ads on it. It is beyond my control.

At 2 Tim 1:6, Paul is writing to Timothy and he says, "6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, " Paul laid his hands on Timothy, as directed by God. That doesn't mean that we all are commanded to lay hands on others. In fact, a bit later in the same letter, Paul writes to Timothy: (1 Tim 5:22) 22 Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin.

      The ONLY way to "activate" the Holy Spirit so to speak is to get on your knees and repent and beg forgiveness! There is a song that goes "humble yourself in the sight of the Lord." I'm not sure I agree w/the rest of the lyrics, but the first line says it all, to humble ourselves before the most HOLY God. Those people are NOT repentant.

      @tracy8508 nope. If Justin was teaching anything false, I wouldn't listen to him and would call him out. Unfortunately, he tends to do that pesky thing that so many do..... uses Scripture to prove what he is saying. So many hate when that happens. I would love to hear you try to explain just one of the "many" false teachings of Justin. It's funny hearing actual people who act like Pharisee's call others "religious Pharisee's." Funny how that works. Actually shows a lack of discernment in what the Pharisee's were actually about. They didn't like using actual Scripture, but instead wanted to interpret it in "their own way." Very much like many charsmatics. Throwing the term Pharisee around is an attempt to deflect from their inability to use Scripture to defend their belief.

He intentionally uses very sensational words as he's stereotyping us all so as to further deceive you. Wake up. I hope you're never in a court of law. His calvinist beliefs are false and when you realize he's a cessationist I shouldn't need to say more, unless you've been successfully brainwashed by false doctrines.

    My wife and I were lamenting our tenure in the charismatic circles just the other night and asked each other the very same question… why are the strangest people we’ve ever known charismatics? I’m so done with the chants and processes that try to invoke some manifestation of God Almighty in a manner that smells like witchcraft! God have mercy! 🙏🏻✝️

    • @mewnani
      @mewnani 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because if you really think about it, it kind of is. Witchcraft is invoking the power of a demon or some other being to make things they want to happen, happen. This often occurs through rituals, chants, incantations, offerings, and the like.
      Now obviously the Holy Spirit (and God in general) doesn't work like this. But when people do things like this, it really is kind of an attempt to "summon" the Holy Spirit and make things happen for them (like "prophecies" that tell them they'll get things they want, or feeling good, or divine healing, or a number of different things.) The Holy Spirit is always there and does things according to God's will, not our own, but good luck convincing these guys about that when they tithe to get more money, or let the Spirit enter them and start flopping on the ground like a fish laughing (even though the Holy Spirit doesn't really cause people to act like this.)

    Justin thank you so much for taking the time to reveal this Idiocracy. I grew up in not necessarily a non-Christian home because both my mother and my stepfather believed in Jesus. The only thing is though my stepfather was infatuated with oral Roberts ministries. We didn't really go to church but the only time I did go to church was with my grandmother. She was a Southern Baptist and there was a lot of energy in the church but nothing quite like what I saw in the Pentecostal movement. I wasn't really introduced fully to the Pentecostal movement until I moved to Clarksville Tennessee after meeting my wife. Somehow she had gotten affiliated with the Assemblies of God and started attending. I had went to one Pentecostal service prior to meeting her with a friend of mine in the military and I have to say I was petrified by what I saw. People jerking and lashing around as though they were possessed and then practically being tackled to the ground by being wrapped with a blanket that the attendees claimed was used to enclose the holy Spirit around the person. The person then began to convulse around on the ground which according to them was the power of God being expressed in their bodies. It was probably the most ridiculous and frightening thing I have ever seen. When I later found myself in the Assemblies of God with my wife I began to see the same thing taking place but not quite as convulsive. Remaining in that church for a while brought on tons of church hurt which in some ways almost pushed me out of the family of God. Prosperity Gospel and the idea that God wants every single person in this world healed through men who manipulate people out of money is sickening. I believe that God heals and I also believe that he is protected me thus far throughout the entirety of this pandemic. I believe that this is by Grace though not something that he personally owes me or by some expression of power through some heretic like the people you show in your videos. As a matter of fact many of the people in the city who are constantly screaming that diseases have to submit to them have been some of the most scared people I've ever seen during this pandemic. They absolutely refuse to breathe in a room with another person, shake their hand, or even lay hands on the sick which if they are called by God to do so then they must believe that they are protected and that they wouldn't be acting foolishly to do so. This action in and of itself proves that they don't believe in any of the things that they scream all the time and that a majority of it is nothing more than a show. Thank you so much brother for shedding light on this. God bless you

I have great sympathies for cessationism, and I’ve heard some decent arguments for it, but never based on Scripture alone. My conscience binds me to what I see in the word of God rather than being led by experience and prejudice.
    Having said that, I really enjoy and appreciate Justin Peters’ exposure of the many abuses, blasphemies and heresies of hyper-charismatic and word of faith teachers. The Sid Roth show is deeply egregious, and the content of this episode was an appalling mockery of God. Most of my favourite teachers are cessationists. I agree that many cessationists have a deeper relationship with and understanding of the work of the Spirit than most charismatics do, since false teaching and superficiality pervade in many of ‘our’ circles. Much love to all of my cessationist brothers and sisters in Christ :)

      Well, start with 1 Corinthians 13:8; that at least proves that things like tongues and prophecy will cease. The next question is simply over when that will happen.

      @@lawrencestanley8989 Amen. According to verse 10, that happens “when the perfect comes” and the partial passes away, and in verse 12 we read more about that time: ““For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” I know some cessationists try to make a case that this time is the time of the completion of the Biblical canon. Exegetically, it seems much more likely that it refers to the time of our glorification as described in chapter 15. That fits the argument of the book far better. An interesting cross reference is 1 John 3:2. So even if my cessationist brothers never convince me in this life, I’ll definitely be a cessationist in the resurrection! ;)
      I really appreciate your comment though, and charismatics need to realise that these gifts are given for the edification of the Church as we grow up into Christ, the head of the body. They will be totally unnecessary in the glorified state when we have perfect union with Him and one another. That is the greater reality to which the gifts point. May Christ be magnified, and may we never lose sight of where our hope as Christians lies.

      Well, my only point in that particular text was the recognition that they will indeed cease; I have spoken to some that are put off at the very idea, so I appreciate that you are not.
      However that scripture is not my argument for the position that the miraculous gifts have ceased as normative for believers. Now, I do not assert that God has altogether stopped performing miracles or that the Holy Spirit has stopped working in the world today, but only that these gifts of the spirit were given at a specific time, to specific people, and for a specific purpose, and because that purpose has been fulfilled, these gifts are no longer necessary, and they are therefore not normative. The passage that I referenced speaks to a time when even God's miraculous workings will no longer be needed.
      Four reasons that the sign gifts have ceased:
      1) The Holy Spirit’s purpose in imparting the “sign gifts,” has expired. Their purpose were to function as signs to unbelievers to confirm the Word of God (John 4:48, Hebrews 2:3-4), and to authenticate the messengers of God's Word to unbelievers until the time when the Scriptures were completed and became self-authenticating (Moses: Exodus 4:1-9, Elijah: 1 Kings 17:24, Jesus: John 10:25 and Acts 2:22, Apostles: Hebrews 2:3-4, Acts 14:3)
      2) The sign gifts were given exclusively to the original Twelve Apostles for the church age, so that the sign gifts and Apostleship are inextricably linked (2 Corinthians 12:12). The promise of miracles was never given to all believers in general.
      3) The gift of Apostleship no longer exists. Since one of the qualifications of being an Apostle was to be an eye witness to the risen Christ (Acts 1:21-26, 1 Corinthians 9:1), there are no Apostles today.
      4) Revelation has ended (Jude 3, Revelation 22:18-19). Since there is no longer any new revelation from God, and miracles and the like were signs to unbelievers of the authenticity of the message, any claimants to miracles today are false.

      @andrekershaw6244 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lawrencestanley8989 I really appreciate you taking the time to share these points. I’ll respond briefly and preliminarily here, though I don’t have time to engage in a very extended fashion right now. I’ll certainly continue considering your points over an extended period of time.
      Firstly I want to reaffirm that I agree that there is a cessation point for all the spiritual gifts we’re discussing. I just think exegetically that 1 Cor. 13 supports that cessation point being the second coming and there is no clear teaching of Scripture elsewhere that indicates an earlier point. I also agree to some extent that not all the gifts are ‘normative’ throughout Church history. Some charismatics believe that all these gifts should always be expected to be present as frequently as they were in the NT period, and I reject that. God is sovereign in determining when to work miracles and when to allow particular gifts to be expressed, and if He wants to have centuries go by without anyone genuinely speaking in tongues, that is fine with my theology. I make no claim about frequency. Only that the Scripture doesn’t clearly teach that God brings an absolute end to the functioning of spiritual gifts such as tongues and prophecy in 70AD or at the closing of the NT canon or with the death of the last Apostle, and therefore it is Biblically possible for these gifts to be present in the Church today if, when and where God determines.
      1) a) Could you provide a solid Biblical basis for the distinct category of “sign gifts” as opposed to the other gifts? b) there is a massive exegetical chasm between the fact that signs and wonders were used as a means to authenticate God’s word and His messengers on the one hand, and the implied assertion that gifts such as tongues, prophecy and healings have that as their exclusive function and therefore cease at the close of the canon. I appreciate the inference, but it is not entirely justified, and certainly not necessitated, by the Biblical evidence you provide.
      2. Again, the fact that there were signs and miracles that specifically authenticated the 12 and Paul does not in itself justify the inference that nobody else ever spoke in tongues or prophesied, for example. The latter proposition is never plainly taught in Scripture. It would seem very strange for Paul to include all the information about tongues, and the injunction to earnestly desire to prophesy, in his instructions to the Corinthians in 1 Cor 12-14, or to give the instructions in 1 Thess 5:20-21, if those gifts which some classify as “sign gifts” were only going to occur in the Corinthian and Thessalonian congregations when Paul or another Apostle visited and practised the gifts.
      3. This is an interesting one. Some in the NT, like Timothy and Apollos are designated as apostles without any indication that they had seen the risen Christ and been commissioned by Him directly (please correct me if I am wrong), so it may be that there is a distinction between the unique foundational office of Apostle and a more general apostolic gifting as one ‘sent out,’ particularly to establish churches. I’m not entirely convinced about this either way. I will, however, question whether the distinct category of sign gifts can be established in the text, and then propose that if it cannot, the cessation of the office of apostle no more guarantees the cessation of gifts of tongues and prophecy than the continuation of the teaching gift or the gift of administration in itself guarantees the continuation of tongues and prophecy.
      4. Agreed that canonical Biblical revelation has ended. Note, however, that there are many called prophets (and presented as genuine prophets) in the NT and OT alike who did not contribute words to Scripture, and so the possibility of God giving a word of prophecy today (applying 1 Thess 5:20-21 would be necessary) does not inherently threaten the uniqueness of the canon. I find the assertion that all miracle claimants are always of necessity lying to be at odds with what you said in your introduction to this post. It also presupposes that miracles ONLY occur to authenticate authoritative divine revelation, which is very similar to the inference that I questioned earlier in this response.
      I respect and appreciate you as a fellow Christian. These are very thoughtful arguments based on inferences from Scripture, and I will consider them more carefully over time. However, for the time being, I do not see that the inferences are entirely justified or necessary, nor is there a plain direct teaching of Scripture to justify your position that I can see so far. Therefore, my conscience as a Bible-believing Christian binds me to hold that the possibility for all the gifts mentioned in the NT being expressed in the Church remains until the second coming, though this is always and only realised when, where and how our sovereign God determines. If your conscience binds you to hold cessationism, and that position is genuinely what you see taught in Scripture rather than a mere tradition or conclusion from experience, then you ought to continue to disagree with me. However, we stand together in Christ, trusting His word to the best of our limited capacities, until the day comes that we grow up fully into the unity of the faith and know Him as perfectly as a creature can know his creator. Come quickly, Lord Jesus 🙏🏻 Much love to you and my other cessationist brothers and sisters in Christ

What does he teach that is heretical? So now, I urge you to reconsider your language. Now, as far as “Always having something to sell.” Let me tell you how that worked when my Pastor was invited. That way you can reconsider your attitude. Sid Roth invited my Pastor on the show to talk about a certain topic. He asked my Pastor if he had any materials related to that topic that they could offer to viewers who wanted to know more. Well, he didn’t really so he put together three messages, invited the congregation to come and be part of a live recording and they used those teachings as the “stuff to sell”. You see, at least in this case, it wasn’t about having “stuff to sell” as much as it was having something to offer if people wanted to know more. There. Now you know something about that that you did not know when you made your comment. See this is the thing. These videos cause a great divide in the church. I watch this kind of stuff and want to vomit because of the prideful arrogance I see. People claiming to know about people’s motives, even the motives of entire ministries! Do they really know that? How could they know that?? People claiming that their theology is perfect (really?!!) but everyone from “that group” is a heretic. Do they know everyone from “that group”? Even the title of this video series does that!!! “Why are charismatics so weird?” Instead of “why are some charismatics so weird?” (That is why I have asked Mr. Peters to modify the title).Within that title is a prideful suggestion that there is a knowledge of every Charismatic in existence!! We really need to stop that. We need to ask more questions and make fewer judgmental statements. That way we can
      Learn from eachother instead of biting and devouring one another.

      All evil and the deceived do these days is project invert and subvert.....double speak nonsense, its beyond annoying and frustrating at this point you know like naming a literal baby killing/mutilating/infanticide organization as "planned parenthood" for an obvious example, its all they do, so naturally these blasphemous despicable frauds are who are objectively disobeying insulting and actually the ones limiting the view and power of God-as if they ever could- but they then of course say your the one doing it, its the oldest trick in the subversive book and its more popular then ever a strategy by them these days.

      A demon, evil spirit can attach to someone even if they have the Holy Spirit residing in them. It can come brought in through generational curses/blood lineage, disobedience, unknowingly/knowingly agreeing to evil convents. That is why deliverance is needed, by the power of Jesus name and His word, the spiritual realm is real - both the operation of the Kingdom of darkness and light.

      That’s the thing about deception. People fall for the lie, but the very thing they believe in condemns them because they live or speak inconsistently despite their own claims. A lot of the time, the truth is right in front of them or they speak it all the time, but they can’t apply it to themselves. The Pharisees did the same thing; in claiming that they never would have stoned the prophets like their ancestors, they exposed the very self-righteousness that led them to kill Christ.

    The title of this video says it all. It is *exactly* why I left the Charismatic Movement back in 1995. I had been converted only a few months, was skeptic before I came to Christ, and I remember trying to compare what was happening in my church with what the Scriptures taught about the "sign gifts." I was young in the faith, but what was happening was just so weird and had no clear scriptural justification (even on continuationist grounds), and we left because of the goofy weirdness. I still believe that at best, what occurs in charismatic churches is of the flesh and at worst, the devil.

      It’s interesting that you would put GOD in a box and decide for a large segment of the born again population what the Holy Spirit does and doesn’t do, can or cannot do. Based on your experience. But the creator of the universe can do ANYTHING. But humans, especially over educated humans can talk themselves out of miracles all the time and do. It’s why the church, name your denomination, is so impudent. You’ve already decided and declared what your God can and cannot still do. The greater things Jesus spoke of in John 14 never take place. 😩😩😩😩😩

    • @mewnani
      @mewnani 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sandravelianoff359 Speaking logically for a second, how can anyone put God in a box? God is omnipresent; therefore he exists in every known and unknown portion of the universe. How are we supposed to fit all that inside of a box?
      As for deciding what the Holy Spirit can and cannot do... well there is this:
      "19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:19-23, ESV
      Note that self control is in there. Sure the Holy Spirit COULD make people act uncontrollably... but would He? Not likely. It's also unlikely that the Holy Spirit would cause people to say things that contradict God's word; He is God just as God the Father and Jesus are, so it would be critically against His character to do so. He also does God's will, not our own greed, so it's unlikely He'd just cause a pile of money or a car to land in our laps just because we wanted it and commanded Him to make it happen. He's our helper and comforter, not a genie in a lamp. Miracles are supposed to help others come to Christ, not be some kind of magical system you have to pay money for to make it work.

      I think "telling God what to do is not entirely understood. It is not like a parent telling a child what to do or else like giving orders. It is more of a request. Just as Jesus asked "what would you have me do?"
      So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

      John 14:17
      Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you
      John 16:7-14
      Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
      8 And when he is come, he will Reprove the world of Sin, and of Righteousness, and of Judgment:
      9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
      10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
      11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
      12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
      13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will Guide you Into All Truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

    A bright, beautiful & blessed day to you, Pastor Peters.
    Justin, I attended an Assemblies of God "start-up" church, back in the early eighties, when I was in my early to mid-teens. It was commonplace, even outright expected that praying & singing "in tongues" was part of every worship service and, especially, if you proclaimed having been saved - expected. I was even told to "fake it 'til I make it"; that if I "practiced" 'speaking in tongues' that it would open up the pathway for the Holy Spirit to come through "for real". There was always someone either influenced by, or under the control of, a demon or evil spirit. Health, wealth and a surcease from being affected by the corruption and sin of this fallen world.
    I learned to "fake it". I learned to "proclaim & claim". It was a nightmare of guilt and almost constant recrimination for my current sins.
    It truly was a nightmare, Justin, but one I'd entered into willingly, having at long last found a group of people who'd accept me; the "weird fat girl"; just as I was. It wasn't until much later that I realized it was generally a bunch of hooey. (I didn't actually become a true Follower of the Way until I was almost 45yrs old, twelve years ago this coming September 19th, 2022.)

      @@misska7535, I still remember the first time that I read through the New Testament. There were so many verses that screamed to me that Catholic doctrines were heretical with the addition of man’s doctrines to those of God. It began with Matthew 6:7: “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.” reminding me of the penance the priest would give you after confession, or just saying the Rosary on your own. Definitely a vain repetition. Followed by Matthew 23:9: “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. This one doesn’t need much explanation. Then Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Catholicism is a works based religion contrary to these verses. And then these verse in 1 Timothy 4:1-5: “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” I’m old enough to remember when Catholics used to live in mortal fear of eating meat on Fridays and being damned for it and we all know that they forbid marriage for priests. Even though the first 14 verses of 1 Corinthians 14 are talking about speaking in tongues these verses ring true about the Catholic mass being in Latin, when I was young, and for centuries prior, 1 Corinthians 14:9-11: “So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without significance. Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me.” And 1 Timothy 2:5: “And there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” which denies the Catholic doctrine of the Pope being the mediator between God and man..And probably one the greatest was the worship of the Virgin Mary, praying to her and the Saints, as well as all the graven images (statues) that are part and parcel of Catholic church stand in strong contrast to Exodus 20:3-5 “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,”. There are several others, but these are the verses that I remember now that caused my jaw to drop when I read them. The doctrines of how Catholics are justified, purgatory, and transubstantiation where the priest calls down Jesus from His heavenly throne to be sacrificed again during the communion of the mass. The last one defies Hebrews 9:25-28: “not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another- He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” ONCE TO DIE! Not in every mass in every church in every country every time a priest performs the communion rite. I’m glad to see that you have escaped the cult of Roman Catholicism as well. We must pray for those still under its deception. God bless.

    "Charismatic" used to mean simply that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still alive and needed within the body of believers. Charismatic churches had more modern music, guitars, etc. but not full blown rock concerts with dazzling special effects. Somewhere this went off the rails into entertainment and weirdness.

    Mr. Peters, I thank you so much for the work that you do, and I pray that you’re able to reach those stuck in this hellhole of a religion. My whole family believes this hoopla.My skin crawled and soul cringed upon hearing, “Holy Spirit activate.” Reminds me of that crazy lady that trump had for a “spiritual” advisor.
