- XUAV Mini Talon Part 7 - APM Setup with Mission Planner: Setup APM for 6 Flight Modes, setup APM throttle failsafe, Setup APM Telemetry Radios and test.
1. We setup 6 flight modes in mission planner using the Taranis X9D RC radio and two switches. There is a flight mode switch and a sub-mode switch setup on the Taranis radio.

2. We setup APM throttle failsafe for RTL (return to launch) for the EZUHF long range system with EZUHF JR module in the Tarania X9D radio. I talk about the normal throttle failsafe first that many receivers use then get into the two ways the EZUHF can be setup, hardware failsafe and Ardupilot 2.6/2.8 throttle failsafe setup with throttle trim offset on Taranis radio.
3. Last we cover telemetry radio setup and use. The telemetry radio set actually replaces the USB cable between the laptop computer and the APM flight controller with a wireless link. This allows you to configure the APM while in flight as well as create missions with way points and execute commands.

I will do my best. I here some people use a v-tail mixer but I will try to do it the Mission Planner way.
Setting the EZUHF Fail Safe was useful for me Dave, thanks.....Im going to be using the EZUHFs own FS setting method, half throttle and switch to RTH.....The APM method is way too convoluted for my tiny brain. Why do they have to make it more complex than necessary..?...As clever as the Mission Planner is, sometimes I can't help thinking it's way too smart for its own good. I have not set the Vee Tail mixing on my Mini Talon, just a Y lead on the elevators. It may not turn fast enough, but we will see....Thanks again Bud.....:)....Oh, and Today we were blessed with sunny skies and 3mph winds....At last...Lucky me..!!!
That must be the weather I sent you :-) Maybe V-tail mixing isn't really needed if you don't need the rudder feature. Right, I like the the hardware failsafe too and will probably go with it.
Thanks for the weather....I know APM uses a combination of Rudder and Aileron to get the plane turning faster during RTH. Basically, once the plane has turned, its heading Home anyway.It should not be too long now before I Maiden the MT....Depends on our weather...LOL.

Can you help me, When i’m calibrating radio in mission planner, from first channel to fourth all channels are calibrating. However, when i want to use channels 5 and 6 i can’t calibrate them but in my fly sky ia6x in dislay it shows me it is working channels 5,6

If yes, which version to use?

I knew Naza-M2 support motor Fail-safe(correct me if I am wrong), but its close code, so I am avoiding it as long I have alternate FC.
Ardupilot has got signal loss Failsafe. I have no idea about motor failsafe.

Hello. could you kindly tell me if there is a way to adjust dead band like there is in betaflight. I've been discouraged from using my APM because of drifting and I know it could be corrected but no matter how much research I do I can't find a way to set dead band in mission planner
Hi. How do you connect over wifi to Mission Planner?
We were using mission planner 1.3.62 and in parameter settings we were using RC Pass through for the servos. When the battery is connected only one motor is responding to the throttle stick variation instead of all the four motors. Could you please give a solution!
Thanks for taking the time to make these informative videos. I have a problem that I hope you can help with. I have a APM 2.8 on a quad. When I switch from alt hold or loiter to stabilize mode, the quad ascends quite a bit. I have gps lock with at least 15 sats. I have run multiple auto tunes. Is there a parameter in MP that can be changed to eliminate the ascension? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't think there is a setting for that. Maybe check to see if the APM might be passing through some other mode on the way to stabilize.
I was reading the user comments on the Banggood 2.8 and they say the barometer chip is not what's advertized - results in altitude error - just something to rule out -

Also, when I try to configure fllight modes Mission Planner shows me the following message: "Current PWM: 0". I need to change it to channel 5 using the FLMODE_CH function. Could you help me, please? I have a Tovsto Aegean wich had some GPS issues. After connecting to MP and loading the Cheerson CX20 parameters it flys much better. only a couple issues. it has the jitters sometimes and mode 4 does not work "RTL". Which is the set mode. Any help would be appreciated.

Using TARANIS R-XSR receiver
The binding to the X9D PLUS 2019 remote controller seems to be good.
The R-XSR receiver is lit green.
The problem is that when entering in the Mission Planner, there is no reaction when moving the remote controller stick.
Nothing happens after several bindings. Is there a workaround?
You may have to switch the output of the R-XSR from S.BUS signal to CPPM.

Hello good video I have a question the range of operation of the airplane, the maximum flight range depends solely on the mission planner or solely on radio control or depends on the two?
Normally range depends on the radio control however if the craft is flying a mission it can continue after losing radio control until the mission is complete. Or if failsafe is set it may take whatever action is set such and Land or RTH when signal is lost. Lots of options there.

After setting the failsafe. Everything goes as normal. But when I off the transmitter my throttle is cut off. But screen indicated RTL with battery connected
Is this normal? That the throttle is cut off.
Do you have a GPS fix? Without it the RTH can't work. Secondly there is a delay before the motor starts.

Yes with or without GPS Lock, the motor will still cut off when off TX. How Long is the delay?
It's usually short like 10 seconds but the delay I have seen on the bench can be longer. It depends on the params in the mission planner too like the failsafe action and failsafe throttle etc. I would hope the motor would not start if the aircraft is too close to the home point as well but I don't have an apm setup on the bench to look at the options right now..

Is alright, aduplane and aducopter totally diff. For Copter after failsafe kicks in the motor will turn but for plane just not moving. I’m about to give up apm and move on to other flight controller.

What do I do to setup fail safe so if I lose radio signal it will RTH can you please do a short video for me. It would be much appreciated
just move the swtiches to the RTH position in your radio and then press and hold the failsafe button on your EzUHF transmitter module.

Dave, for modems, what kind applications you recommend ?
Are you talking about the telemetry radios? I have learned that they are called modems too. I think of them as a wireless USB link to my laptop or tablet for the APM. You can use mission planner or there are a couple Android GCS apps that will talk to the APM as well like DroidPlanner, Tower, EZGUI
