    It's a tribute to DDR: When this game was released, it was believed to be the last DDR game ever, with this song as the hardest "ultimate final boss" type song in the game. Therefore, the video "asks" the player why they need Konami to create any more songs, and also brings the player back to "nostalgic memories" of the first "boss" song ever, which was Paranoia on 1st mix.

  • @zowayix
    @zowayix 11 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    That's because "Challenge" was defined weirdly before Supernova came out; it didn't always just mean "the difficulty level above Expert/Heavy". In MAX2, it was a marker to refer to a few song remixes that were only playable in "Challenging Mode", where the player only had 4 lives. A slight exception is Kakumei, which had a special chart not selectable in normal play and exclusive to Encore Extra Stage, which was also given the "Challenge" moniker because it was a special chart. Originally, the only way to access these Challenge charts was through Challenging Mode, where you had to play a course of several songs in a row and just 4 missteps would make you fail the whole course. The otherwise unplayable and unique chart was meant as a reward for making it through the course. In this way, passing the Challenge chart (and therefore the whole course) was much harder than just passing the Heavy chart. The distinction becomes lost when the song is fully unlocked.

    Basically, "Challenge" used to mean "a chart separate from the main charts specifically designed to be played in a special mode, such as Challenging Mode or Encore Extra Stage". This continued in Extreme, where songs like Sakura were first unlocked in Challenging Mode before regular mode, and only the Challenge chart was first playable before any of the other charts were. In essence, the Challenge charts were only "intended" to be played in a certain mode, and were only unlocked for (continued)

    @ddrfreak805 I completely agree. I think Konami planned to end the DDR series here because DDR EXTREME had the "goodbye" vibe all over it. Especially with this song, the video shows how they worked on DDR Music, then included the first Paranoia (first Konami song) in the middle, combo was 573 (pronounced KONAMI in Japanese), then the "Thank you for playing" in the end. It seems konami kept making DDR because they thought ITG would take over. I love DDR, but it should have ended here.

    Back then, Challenge was meant as a standalone difficulty for Nonstop Mode (4 Lives Challenging Mode or not) or any special event, and was basically the difficulty to be between Standard and Heavy (or a second Heavy).
    The rule of thumb for Challenge-only remixes was that if you could do really well at the original song on standard/heavy, you can survive the Challenge-only remix. If Challenge was an additional difficulty, it's in-between or post-Extreme 2, a foot-breaker.

    Pluto Relinquish has a max bpm of 800.
    MAX. (period) has a max bpm of 600.
    888 has a max bpm of 444.
    Pluto the First has a max bpm of 440.
    A lot of various boss songs have max bpms of 400.
    However, since PR's 800 only occurs during freezes, you don't actually have to read any arrows scrolling at that speed. This would make MAX. (period) the highest bpm that must be actually read.

    Paranoia Revolution Challenge ties with Valkyrie dimension now. They're both 19s. But personally I'd say the hardest song to pass right now is STILL Pluto Relinquish Double Challenge (which I would say should be a 19). The one who first Full Combo'd Tohoku Evolved Double Expert (on Encore Extra Stage) and AA'd Possession Double Challenge (which is a 19), can only get a B on Pluto Relinquish Double Challenge. Numbers don't mean everything.

  • @EonNite

    @xHuntedGunzPCGx I see, that reminds me of Sakura. From what I've heard, it's Heavy chart was a 10-footer while it's Challenge chart was a 9-footer. I also heard it's Heavy foot rating was brought down a foot.

  • @zowayix
    @zowayix 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I forgot to mention London Evolved ver. B, at 420 bpm. And today (5/30/12), a new song was unlocked, Tohoku Evolved, that appears to have a max reading bpm of 680, which would beat MAX. (period).

  • @zowayix
    @zowayix 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree that PR is definitely more popular than TE, if only because it took so long for players to pass when it was first unlocked compared to TE. Whether or not one is harder than the other is kind of subjective as they have the same foot rating and the world record scores are very close.
    While the above is true, on a list of "fastest songs ever", Tohoku Evolved's 1020 bpm still tops Pluto Relinquish's 800 bpm (or 805 if you ask some people).

    even though I like the heavy chart, a lot of people don't like it at all because it's too hard to sight read when playing. plus that's the reason it's not in american DDR's and while looking at the data on the EXTREME disk for AC, I found 9 spots that had nothing in it making me believe that in the beta of DDR EX, max. regular play on future games or home versions because it would kinda suck to have an unplayable chart in regular mode.
    So if you want to believe that Challenge charts should always be harder than Expert charts, then, in games before Supernova, imagine that only Expert is playable in regular mode, and Challenge is restricted to where you only have 4 or 1 lives to clear it. That makes it a good deal harder to pass.
    As for Shock Arrow Challenge charts, that's a topic for later.

Trigger and Pluto Relinquish may or may not be harder, but this song is without argument, the final challenge of shall we say "old school DDR." On the old scale, a 10 out of 10 for both Heavy and Challenge. I would hazard on the X scale, it'd be about a 15 or 16 (it's not above 17 for sure, that would be Fascination, Pluto and Valkyrie Dimension territory).
    At least despite the jumping, this chart makes sense. All of the post-Extreme 2 (as in, after Paranoia survivor MAX) boss charts seem to be written by an idiot or for a masochist.
