    Hello everyone,
I hope you enjoy this recipe! If you didn't, don't worry, this will remain an exceptional part of my channel and I will still mainly focus on history/language, at least for the moment.
Just want to give a huge shout out to my mom and Grandma for helping my incapable ass. Btw, in France, it's traditional to hold a gold coin in your left hand while flipping the crêpe (properly) with your right hand for good fortune so make sure to give that a try if you can (I've never done it but oh well).
Sorry for the pop sounds and weird breathing, I just moved apartment and simply forget to put my 'pop' filter on the mic...
Merde to y'all and Bon Appétit!

This video was phenomenal when it came to humour but I truly lost it when your grandmother took over because you kept flipping crêpes around the stove.
RIP your nephew, and a very well deserved congratulations on nearly 500 subscribers. Definitely not enough for a channel that manages to maintain this type of quality (or even half of that) in the editing department.

Another fantastic video Barris, many congratulations on hitting the 500 subs! The Life of Brian style (including the theme tune, so extra points) you took for the history bit fit well for the feel you were going for. Editing worthy of the Pythons themselves. :) Interestingly, us UK folks have a similar holiday in Shrove Tuesday, more commonly known as Pancake Day. Bet you can't guess what we traditionally eat on that holiday...

And yes, I heard about Pancake Day. It's not the same holiday though since Candlemas celebrates the day when Jesus was presented to God at the temple. In France, we also celebrate Shrove Tuesday which we call "Mardi Gras" (Fat Tuesday), and as you can imagine, it's just another excuse to stuff ourselves.

Fun fact: here in Galicia (northwestern Spain) it is a common joke that the crêpe is actually a bad copy of our filloa (a traditional Carnival food very similar to a crêpe but generally thicker, without butter and in some places with pig's blood) that the French made during the Peninsular War.

    • @ThisisBarris
      @ThisisBarris  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I never knew that! That's pretty interesting and now I'm going to fall into a Wikipedia rabbit hole about the Peninsular War. I want to try it now - how does it taste? If we actually stole it from you guys, I'm not surprised we added Butter. We're obsessed with butter (especially in the North) haha
Thank you for watching and I hope you give these a try nevertheless. Let me know if you still prefer filloa.

@@ThisisBarris Thanks mate! It's always good to see a history channel that doesn't revolve around military history, Rome or America.
How does a filloa taste? I don't know... Like a crêpe (I already tried them when I visited Paris, and still think filloas are superior) but juicier, I really don't know how to explain it. But it is delicious, especially if you add something like chocolate, honey or pork and chickpeas (another thing the Mexicans stole from us: the burrito).
Great that I sparked your interest about the War of Independence as we call it! It's a shame that people only think of Russia and Waterloo when they think about Napoleon's demise, the Peninsular campaign was extremely important in the defeat of France, between guerrilla fighters, Spanish regulars and Portuguese and British troops.
      Keep up the good work!

    • @ThisisBarris

@@MaylocBrittinorum Thank you, I'm glad you appreciated that too. I feel like we focus too much on battles/war and not on other more significant aspects of history like food, the economy, politics etc. so I hope to talk about that too.
Damn, I really want to try it now. And visit that Region of Spain - I was in Andalusia for Christmas and loved it. Considering moving to Spain if I can find "at home" work because it's cheaper than France.
Yes, I've been following Spain's War of Independence with Kings and Generals, and Epic History TV and it has been fascinating so far (especially since I didn't know about it beforehand so yeah it is a shame that it's less discusses).
Thank you man! It's great viewers like you that motivate me to do so so thank you for that and I hope to see you soon.

Man I just love your editing and humour. Brilliant. It must take you so long! Very Python-esque, that must be an inspiration? I'm watching on a different computer today and the sound is a bit hard to hear, sounds very bassy and the music was quite loud. The pancake/crepe halo is genius. You even made me watch something I never ever watch, cookery youtube. I might even try a boozy crepe tonight. However, I'm a much better tosser than you. PS wasn't Lupercalia also the origin of Valentine's?

I was wondering why your logo looked different! Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Always great to see you in the comments man. Yes, Monty Python was definitely the inspiration and it just so happened that I had been on a Python movie binge that weekend haha
Quite a few people complained about the sound. I think the fact that music had lyrics made it hard to follow with my narration. Did you give a crêpes a try? And as a Brit, I can't believe you don't follow Gordon Ramsay at least!
You can say I'm a tosser when it comes to tossing (ba dum tss). And that's commonly believed because the Lupercalia happened during the same time period (13 to the 15th of February) but apparently, there's no proof for that.

Beware of fanatical Christians my friend, they could burn you for blasphemy. Haha
I really enjoyed this. I saw in comments that you were inspired by Monthy Python. It's a really great source of inspiration and influence, indeed. It's a big deal to borrow some good stuff from immortal classic for creating something new and fresh. Great work my friend, keep it up.
One more remark. I listened to this from a crappy laptop with no low frequencies, and music seemed a bit loud to me from time time.

    • @ThisisBarris

Hahah I hope they realize it's just some friendly banter plus, tbh, I did a lot of biblical research for this episode!
Yes, I'm a big fan of the Monty Python movies (Life of Brian and the Holy Grail, especially) so yeah, I just love doing my own version of this. Are you a fan too? I'm glad you enjoyed it so much man.
The sound was hard for this episode (especially since music with lyrics is pretty distracting) so I will have to keep working on it. But I think I have to accept that it's never going to be perfect for everybody either.
Congrats on passing 2,500 subscribers man! I saw another video of yours went viral too so that's awesome man. I saw you were also working on your next video, let me know if you need any help/voicing. I would love to help out my friend.
