Yes,Defense that almost no superstars plays,so Blaming lack of effort on D by Melo is wack since most of the superstars save their energy to the offense
It actually wasn't that bad...they traded for him because in the semis against the pacers Chandler got destroyed by Hibbert and the Knicks spacing sucked, and theoretically, trading for Bargnani gave the Knicks a Center who could space the floor for Melo and everyone else. Also, as much as it pains me to say it, Steve Novak was useless by that point...they ended up getting rid of Camby and Novak (both of whom were on pretty expensive contracts) and the first rounder they gave up didn't matter as it was already owned by the Nuggets anyway as it was part of the Melo deal. Bargnani definitely could have been better in NY, but but the Knicks basically only gave up two late second rounders to get him, so it was a low risk, highish reward move at the time that didn't end up really hurting them long term.
That Knicks move still makes me laugh because Melo was pretty much screaming he wanted to be a knick so there was no reason for them to trade half the team away for him
I’m also a Knick’s fan and I remember how hype me and my friends were when we got melo, the knicks were the only 2k team I used for a couple years and melo and amare brought some life into the fan base for a bit regardless of how many playoff appearances we made the melo era gave us fans something to watch
I'm a Lakers fan( always felt a soft spot for the Knicks for some reason...lol), but damn I remember the trade and his debut at MSG like it was a few hrs ago..... Good times..... Good times indeed..
I’m a Knicks fan and a melo fan and I thoroughly enjoyed Melos time here. We brought new life and success to a failing franchise. Sure we didn’t win any rings but who was really stopping the Heats big 3. He played hard and fought for the city. All love to melo and the Knicks. Great vid Andy
Melo's last season there mustve been BRUTAL for him mentally. Losing so many games, the media, and fans just bashing him. But he took it with pride and very maturely didn't complain. Still went out there and did his thing. Love my knicks no matter what!!
he didn't care. he was getting insane money and he copped out of being a competitor, saying that the Olympics was more important than an NBA championship.
nah more like dedication to the new york market for his brand and inspired cornball HS kids to rock there hoody indoors furthering there already ghetto-ass stereotype. also chucking 3s into the point the knicks were down by 20pts every 3rd quarter.
Anthony... Anthony with the ball...... PUTS IT IN!!! Great video Andy I watch all your videos but you forgot to mention Melo's 62 point game which not only is his career high but also the highest scoring game in MSG
You're so right about Melo getting too much blame. The front office was and is completely dysfunctional and James Dolan is the worst owner in the league. Those Linsanity days seems so long ago but was a great time in the NBA. Linsanity-era Knicks, "Old Men" Knicks, and Ewing/Oakley/Starks Knicks of the 90s are such classic teams.
Carmelo Anthony will forever be my favorite player! Can we get another vid with him? Like Melo v LeBron matchup? Or how he matches up with the rest of his draft class?
Trading for Melo rather than going for him in free agency was mistake #1. When we made that trade, not only did we lose good depth, but we also got older in one move. Remember, Melo was almost 27, and we also got a 34 year old Chauncey Billups who could still produce, but was far from what he once was. We lost Gallo, who could of been our sixth man for years, Felton, who was very solid for us with his shooting and relationship with Amar'e, as well as a few other decent bench pieces. If we got Melo in free agency, we could still keep guys like Felton and Gallo around for either the bench or starting roles. If the Knicks were still able to sign Chandler, Smith, Novak, and Lin, as well as still draft Shumpert, than we would of had a legitimate shot until around 2015ish. Sure, this involves A LOT of what ifs, but a man can dream.
ZMR33 THANK YOU. I'm not a Knicks fan but I live in New York. I'm glad there's actually someone that sees the problem started here. He wants to come, don't give up assets to try and make something happen when you can get him later. Look at Los Angeles with PG. He wants to come there so they are sitting tight until the can make their pitch this summer. Besides, it's not like the result of that season changed or anything. I'm pretty sure Amare could've led the Knicks to a first round sweep 🤣
Melo was 26 at the time of the trade, that’s not old at all 😂 Some people wouldn’t even have consider him in his prime yet. A lot of players don’t hone their elite skills until 27/28
lol fr that's the first play irl i saw of him im like damn this nigga nice. few years later he joined the cavs wiins a ring now he's trash ish lol wife bad tho
im a die hard knicks fan and i agree with you when you said it was the front office holding us back! im not crazy about the management to this day we need changes! fire jeff hornacek and hire mark jackson or jeff van gundy
if only they were the first one to offer steve kerr a job then maybe something good must've had happened. steve kerr weighed in on the first one to offer him a coaching job, not the one with the larger market.
The second best player during this era was J.R. Smith. Stoudemire was washed up after the first year of Melo's tenure. That said, the Knicks obviously didn't do enough to build around Melo.
Amar'e was putting up 30 pts every other game before the Melo trade, not to mention that he had that streak of like 7 games or so with 30 pts or more, he was carrying that team by himself
Like I said, the point isn't the players. Stoudemire was washed short after the trade due to injuries. Stoudemire was an amazing player in his day, but his day passed.
I honestly for me , and I’m a knicks fan for a long time .. and my favorite moment was during that magical 2012-13 season .. 54 games and it’s the most amount of wins they’ve gotten as of now .. and also when Melo scored 62 against the Charlotte bobcats , which is still a knicks all time scoring record game , which I hope dosent taken away by someone else
Outstanding content even after all these yrs. Hope he comes back to cap off his career and this time the team advances far in the playoffs with him as a key player
Nets Fan here... that's one thing I gotta give Melon. Never complained (in Knicks Stint, at least, don't know bout time in Denver)... Been a fan of his since he was still at Oak Hill. Gotta love players that just keep their head down n play, especially, if that player a legit full-blown superstar.
That one season when they won 54 games was so memorable. I was like 13 so I remember it vividly. The nba just seems better when the Knicks are good I can’t really explain it.
I loved it when I could use my Knicks in 2K. Especially the year with Kidd. For a couple years, we had Melo & Stoudemire, JR, Shump and that squad was great for online play, even with everyone using the Heat or Thunder back then.
2012-13 knicks was the team that made me love basketball💯 Carmelo is still my favorite player no matter what💯 and tbh i miss him bein on my fav team😔 but i will always root for Melo❤ #StayMe7o❤
I love your vids man. I wonder what happened to KJ McDaniels and what happened to Jimmer Freddetes and Jokim Noahs nba career.what would make your vids even more interesting to me is make vids on lesser known players because they have better stories
Respect! You don't see people from Houston blaming Harden for not playing defense, do you? Why? Because they have better support players than Melo did back in his days with the Knicks. Only goes to say that you need a team to win a basketball game. Not just a single superstar doing everything he can.
I’m a Knicks fan and he’s a future hall of famer and we just disrespected him non stop and it’s insane and I will always have dissapointment for other Knick fans
Yes they could have . But as you said it was the management that keeps holding back the entire organization.melo was still grindin despite what the managment did to him didnt even talkback or defend himself he's just doing his thing. Im a big knicks and melo fan and it hurts to see him leave but its good to see him in a better position now.
Two things I wish you would have referenced: 1. Amar’e hurting his back before the 2011 playoffs. Him playing at a reduced level leading to the Celtics defense keying in on Anthony all lead to their unspectacular play that series. 2. The planned Chris Paul trade and the amnesty of Chauncey Billups. Almost immediately after melo got to NY I heard them talking about Paul forming a Big 3 in NY to rival the Heat. If I recall Melo and Paul even toasted to it at Paul’s wedding. Melo forcing the trade and not signing in free agency prevented the Knicks from having the assets to trade with NO and form the planned superteam. How things would have been different...
could you imagine a prime kidd and melo playing together? for the record i handed in my knicks fan card after 28 years this year.too much heartache. dont know who my next fav will be. torn between the nets and nuggets
Knicks are also my favourite team in the East and I don't think that Melo era was a complete failure. Melo is one of my favourite players and he brought so much to the Knicks even tho some fans of Knicks don't see it. This season I expected better but sadly KP got hurt and we are going to end this season with 30+ or less than 30 game and I am ok with that. We saw potential in newbies this season in Ntilikina and especially in Burke who is insane and I woul really like to see him as Knicks future PG. Hardaway JR is also solid this season so it's not a complete waste, he is getting better season by season and he will just continue to evolve. Knicks will come back much stronger next season you will see :)
Remember Allen Iverson's Sixers? With the right players surrounding your 1 star, anything can happen. But also ofc with a great coach to you know. Make sure everything goes according to the gameplan.
3 straight years in the playoffs, Linsanity, their first series win in god knows how long, and a general sense that the Knicks were relevant. Yeah it was nothing that special but in a league where there are usually no more than 2 or 3 championship contenders at any given time I can't complain. I loved those teams, and I got nothing but love for what Melo did to the Knicks.
Although I laugh about the Bargnani trade as it was the first big trade in the Masai Ujiri-era, I miss #KnicksTape . From their balls to the wall playstyle, to the return of Rasheed Wallace, that game against the Heat after Hurricane Sandy was one of the reasons why I became an NBA fan.
If the Knicks got past the pacers they were on their way to making the finals. They were the only team to having a winning record against Miami that season as they went 3-1. Melo also dropped 50 in a dub in Miami
How do you win Best Defender of the year but you still didn’t even get 1st team all defense, shouldn’t the person on 1st team be DPOY because he is “better”
J.R. Smith definitely remembers the "high moments"
Poon King How if he is high all the time?
He won a 6 man, in New York he was pretty good
😂
💀
The 2012-2013 Knicks was my favorite team that I can remember. I like the fact they had all vets which made them one of the most experienced, it would be great if that team was on average 5 years younger

I felt like Melo deserved MVP that season but whatever. 2012-13 my favorite knicks team.
That team felt like the Expendables! lol

How does one win DPOY but then gets 2nd team all defense?
Same thing happened to Marc Gasol the following year

you know its bad when your key editions are bargnani and metta world peace
DFLOW's NBA Talk hahahahaha
Well.....and older Metta World Peace
Prime Melo and Artest would've been a beast combo
I blame the Bargani trade as one of the main culprits behind us losing in 13-14
Gmac he's a disgrace of a player lol
That Bargani trade killed the Knicks for 3 seasons, I have no clue why they traded for him, he was so ass
Jerry S. that ass was mine
It actually wasn't that bad...they traded for him because in the semis against the pacers Chandler got destroyed by Hibbert and the Knicks spacing sucked, and theoretically, trading for Bargnani gave the Knicks a Center who could space the floor for Melo and everyone else. yeah bro totally worth Air Bargnani
Luke Willson now this is what NBA TH-cam needs.
That Knicks move still makes me laugh because Melo was pretty much screaming he wanted to be a knick so there was no reason for them to trade half the team away for him
Uncle Shannon thank u Dude. Mad people are delirious
Exactly
lol forgot that 12-13 knicks team had all those insanely old players
DFLOW's NBA Talk lmao
Imagine if those players were in their primes? The Knicks would have some crazy depth, especially in the front court.
DFLOW's NBA Talk same
It was their best shooting year
but the 2010-11 Mavs did and they won the finals

Respect! You don't see people from Houston blaming Harden for not playing defense, do you? Why? Because they have better support players than Melo did back in his days with the Knicks. Only goes to say that you need a team to win a basketball game. Not just a single superstar doing everything he can.
Because Harden makes his Team better
