I’m surprised you like 1st ed. better than 2nd. I really feel like the Dark War expansion content is needed to make the game great (which it is to me). I played through all the bosses and mini bosses with my wife when we first got into the hobby so it has a special place in my heart.

I played 1st edition a lot when I first got it. I have the 2nd edition stuff just never really played it. I really should though.
