You said it,Jerry! It could well have been the GREATEST one hit wonder of all time. It's my 2nd favorite song of all time out of a few thousand that I like.
I was 11 y/o, in6th grade, & I loved this song. Now at 69 y/o, I still love it --maybe even more. it's timeless, innocent, & just beautifully done. Wolfsky9
In this video they look and sound as if they are singing live in a concert hall or auditorium. I like it.....A Big Thank You! It had to have been before the record was released if Karen was still in the group as I don't think she was on the record.Sure that Toni was the lead singer.
Kedves Roland!
On this day in 1958 {August 7th} the Poni-Tails performed "Born Too Late" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #26 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, a little under six weeks later it would peak at #7 {for 1 week} and it spent 16 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #11 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart and #5 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... The Lyndhurst, Ohio trio had two other Top 100 records, "Seven Minutes In Heaven" {#86 in 1958} and a covered version of the 1944 song "I'll Be Seeing" {#87 in 1959}... Member Patricia Ann McCabe passed away at the young age of 49 on January 17th, 1989... May she R.I.P.
This song has somewhat of a double meaning for me. The first one is pretty simple: because I was born in the 90s and love a lot of old music like this and also love other retro stuff, I sometimes feel like I was indeed born too late. The other meaning is that it reminds me of a girl I knew in high school. She was a pretty, rather popular girl on the cheerleading team, but was also two years ahead of me and graduated at the end of my sophomore year. (I was also on good terms with her mother, but that's another story.) There were times when I wished I could date her, but I knew it could never happen because of how much older and further ahead of me she was, not to mention that she was already going steady with another guy at the time. Not long after she graduated, she married and moved out West, and just recently gave birth to her second child. I'm friends with both her and her mom on Facebook, and I talk to them every now and then, but that's about the extent of my relationship with her.
+Malaquias Alfaro Here's a REAL heartbreaker, and it's a true story. I just remembered it now. I was walking out of the grocery store one day, about three years ago, when I ran into my dentist from childhood. He's the first dentist I can ever remember seeing, and retired when I was 13. Whenever I saw him around town (and I did a number of times), we always made a point of greeting one another and having a brief friendly exchange. During this particular incident, I heard this song playing over the speakers at the store when I saw him (I already was familiar with this song and knew I liked it). As much as I wanted to listen to the song, I knew that it was more important to acknowledge him and show him that I cared, so I ignored the music and talked to him. That was the last time I ever saw him--he passed away a few weeks or months later. He was a very kind, caring man, and I miss him whenever he comes to mind. I wish I could bring him back and thank him for the good he did--not only for me, but for his patients and community. Don't take the people around you for granted--they can be gone when you least expect it.
Born too late .... for you to notice me ... To you, I'm just a kid that you won't date .... Why was I born too late? Born too late ... to have a chance to win ....your love Oh why, oh why was it my fate To be born too late? I see you walk with another ..... I wish it could be me ...... I long to hold you and kiss you .... But I know it never can be!! For I was Born too late for you to care, Now my heart cries Because your heart ...just couldn't wait - Why was I born too late? Born too late for you to care, Now my heart cries Because your heart .... just couldn't wait Why was I born too la-a-a-a-ate? Why was I born too late? Too late !

Takes me back...so far back. Innocent, and terribly nostalgic.
I was born at the right time when we had great music and wonderful lyrics.
I know one of the Poni-tails. She was my 7th grade teacher. She taught at Mayfield Middle School in '90s.
Toni Cistone on lead vocal with Karen Topinka and Patti McCabe from Lyndhurst,
Ohio. One of the all time great one hit wonders. Thanks for sharing.
Toni was my teacher when I was in middle school. She lives in Mayfield Hts, Ohio. She worked for Mayfield City Schools.

This song tells my life completely as I'd of loved to have gone through these eras as they're no great singers nowadays 😞
