    I have a 09 Maxima...and the other day this "steering lock" thing happened to me.
    I went to go somewhere, and Nothing...wouldn't start! Only the "key" light was on the dash.
    So, after a long search on Google, I found that it's a known problem.
    After I ordered a replacement Steering Lock Box from Ebay for $144...I came across this post.
    So, I just went in the garage and drilled a hole while holding the Lock piece in, like in this video.
    Put a screw in the hole to hold it down, hooked it back up to the car....and it started right up!!!
    So now all I have to do is return the part and get my $144 back!
    THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!!!!!!!
    IT WORKS!!!!!

    Thanks Virginia, for me who’s living in Canada, the steering lock module cost $1200 at the dealership!
    I just used to have the same problem on a 2010 370Z and didn’t have to drill the unit, just push the pin in to get the push start button under power and then, pull out the steering lock fuse. Problem resolved, but the steering is no longer lockable. But thanks for taking the time for doing this video. 😊

    My 2009 Nissan Maxima just did this recently. The part replacement was gonna be $1200.00. A much quicker fix is just to tap on the lock mechanism till it retracts and get the car started. While the car is running, just pull the fuse for the mechanism and you’ll be good to go from then on with no issues. Your steering wheel will no longer lock, but who cares. It’s 14 years old.

    How did you remove that part? Its held by pieces that are either screws or bolts.

    • @harryballz6358
      @harryballz6358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The factory bolt heads must have a slot ground into head to remove with a flathead screwdriver. The factory bolts tighten to torque spec then head snap off aka- Break away bolts. Made that way so the locks not removed easy and the cars not stolen.
      Most people just snug the new break away bolts up the new part comes with during install. Use Loctite and don't snap heads off is what I do. Cars stolen easier with bolt heads left on but hey its drivable and thats what insurance is for..lol Much easier removal when it fails again and why some on here just unbolt it? Yours most likely has never been off is all.

    If you’re here, it’s worth mentioning that if you get the car to start with this faulty part, you can remove the fuse for it under the hood while the car is running. It will disable the lock while in the position it needs to be for the car to start. No drilling. No screws. No anti theft bolts to undo and then install afterward. Actually, I used an iron rod to reach below the steering column and bang on the part like you would a faulty starter. Might be able to save yourself the time of taking shit apart all together.

      I have the same exact car with the same exact problem I fixed it by pushing down the metal button in the actuator and Turing the car on then letting it run for a bit after that you turn it off then put your car in accessories then pull the fuse to it which is in the engine bay fuse box but if still no change do what I did I was researching it and there has been a recall for that piece call your local Nissan dealer ship and ask about the “lock switch actuator recall” of they still have it they will replace it for free and free labor as well
