It is midnight, I am 18 years old freshly graduated this past June (it’s December), and I come across this video. I’ve just watched reservoir dogs for the first time and am now scrolling through TH-cam to see if I stumble upon anything worth my time. I’ve recently become utterly infatuated with Tim Follin’s work, especially Akrillic from Plok. I had spent hours watching videos of people explaining the intricacies of this piece, constantly searching for new videos, covers, commentaries, controversies, chatter, chit chat, whatever I could find; this video never came up. Until now. I had been fated to only come across it now for some reason, but boy am I ever enjoying myself. This is epic, truly.
This song sounded great on the original SNES soundchip, but hearing how incredible it sounds with a full orchestra shows how much of a genius Tom Follin is.
Friendly reminder that if there's ever a video/song that you love on the internet...DOWNLOAD IT TO YOUR HARDDRIVE. Even if it gets taken down you will still have it for yourself, and can help share it in the future :)
the drumming is simply sublime. at first i was a little miffed that it didn't really resemble the drum patterns in the original song but the playing style fits the song so well!
ive always wanted to hear this arranged in a more traditional setting. amazing how well crafted his songs were, the polyphony, clashing notes, modes and all that stuff. tim follin truly a genius
You should check out the album Imaginary Diseases if you haven't already. It's recordings from the 1972 Petit Wazoo tour, and it's what I couldn't help but think of here.
About 15 years ago I asked Tim Follin in an email whether he liked Frank Zappa and he said no…( but he did reply! ). I’m sure he would like sinister footwear and stuff, but there you go. Maybe he hasn’t heard the right things as there’s a broad spectrum in FZs output.
Fuck, the strings in this are absolutely sublime. Not to bash everyone else’s great playing but I’d love to hear a version of just the strings and drums
The most traditional musical instruments playing electronic progressive rock. And somehow it works beautifully. Edit: Play at 1.25x speed and it's even better.

And Geoff*
Has Tim Follin seen this? I'm sure he'd love it.
I have been listening to this version for years. If it ever gets taken down, I will die.

The wind at 3:20 has got me experiencing mild anger.
Love is real
This is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen
Such a good orchestral recreation of a great tune. I'd love to see your rendition of Cotton Island.
By the end of the first quarter, it sounds like a Frank Zappa song. This is some good shit.
SCPH7503 seriously, it sounds like it fits right at home in hot rats.

Wow, Plok barely even has any piano covers and here's a fucking orchestra
