Hello everyone, Thank you for your ideas and input to this video Just to be clear Phramaha Bhatsakorn Piyobhaso is saying that Buddhists believe in 'Small g' gods (he is referring to spirits or devas from the higher realms) rather than a creator God . Buddha does not confirm or deny a creator God, but it is not central to the Philosophy of Buddhism. That is our interpretation. Thanks, Peace!

As a Japanese Buddhist, I can tell you that although Buddhism has been forcibly classified as a religion, it is a means to an approach that belongs to philosophy and self-realization. Buddhism is not a belief in a specific god, but a practical wisdom for exploring the unknown self as taught by the Buddha.

Buddhism basic is body and mind. What you think as a soul is just a stream of unrest mind.
When you meditate enough to get certain level of concentration, you can see the gap between your split seconds of mind. And you will start to realize that mind (or so called "Soul") is a series of film. Just because many frames of film are pull together very fast to show you like a movie with motion, it looked like an existential soul. In fact there isn't one.

In the Buddhist Cosmography, The six realms of Buddhism is divided into Gods, Titans, Humans, Animals, Hungry Ghosts and Beings of hell. The main Buddhist prayer has six syllables, Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hung. When you recite this prayer, you are basically praying for all the beings in this realm to break the cycle of rebirth and attain nirvana - This is just what i read in a book recently.

The entire religion itself was built on the story how Siddharta Gautama Buddha, a mere HUMAN obtained enlightenment without the aid of any supreme deities. @@lilian8977 in Theravada Buddhism there is no single GOD like Christianity/Islam hav. There are many Gods. actually Buddha did not say worship Gods..but after thousand years, modern theravada Buddhism is not same as original what Buddha taught.Due to the invasions that happened for thousands of years, in a country like Sri Lanka, Hindu religious ideas have been added to Buddhism. Therefore, many Buddhists have been tempted to worship gods and follow them. Actually this thing can happen to any religion with time. Nothing can remain unchanged with time. People add good or bad things to religions..
According to the Buddha's early teachings, gods are a group of people who are superior to humans in their good deeds. That is why they live more comfortable lives than humans and are mentally and physically stronger than us.
But the Buddha did not say that You should worship gods because they are more powerful. A Buddha comes down to the world to teach people the way to Nirvana. You can never get Nirvana because the gods followed you. Because the Nirvana that comes in Buddhism is something that you have to get on your own. Someone else can't magically give it to you. All anyone can do is tell the path to attain Nirvana.
He said that there is a category of living beings called Gods. But the Buddha also said that ordinary people like us cannot see that category of living beings with the naked eye. Yes, Buddhists can accept and believe that there are gods. If the existing Buddhists worship a certain god, it is because of the results of Hindu religious influences that have been added later.it has nothing to do with original Buddhas teachings .

I think this venerable put it in a wrong way. The right answer is: unlike other religions there is no God or creator in Buddhism. The universe comes into existence, lasts for a long time and then gets destroyed. The cycle of creation and destruction just keeps going on. That's the dhamma or natural law of this universe. And there are countless universes like this. Buddhism perfectly describes the multiverse.

Buddhism has the concept of God as "The Ultimate Reality" and "Ground Of Being" that is within everyone and everything and behind everyone and everything. The Life Of Lord Buddha is basically the Buddhists version of The Life Of Lord Jesus: walking on water and performing other miracles, seers foretelling His Greatness in the future, Him gathering disciples (The Sangha), His Mother having a Dream before His Miraculous Birth. Buddhism is very Polytheistic. They look to themselves for Salvation (Liberation) from God.

Very wrong and rubbish view you have put forth here. Buddhism doesn’t believe in a creator super being like a sky daddy. Buddhism believes in certain forms of gods but are mostly inferior to human beings. A true Buddhist would never ever depend on such gods and they are absolutely irrelevant to one’s spiritual development and final salvation. Buddhist are seekers from within by looking within to identify human potential and to find out ways and means to trap them, sharpen them, and try to bring out the best version of you from within. Best version of you means the wisdom and method to lead a happy life and help other sentient beings to be and remain happy.
The Buddha empowered every individual human being, saying, “ you are very powerful. You haven’t realised and understood your potentials and capabilities. Explore your immense power within. Use your intelligence . Think wisely by way of applying logic, analysis, contemplation, common-sense and experiences. Depend on your own experiences, not on what others have said in the past. Be your own light. Appu Deepo Bahwa. You are all powerful. Don’t think of or indulge in begging from outside imaginary gods etc. Cultivate love and compassion for all sentient beings. Sharpen your knowledge and transform knowledge into wisdom. Take responsibility for your own happiness and miseries. You are responsible. No god, nothing from outside.

Devas (Hindus gods) is Divine Spirit like Greek gods, Norse gods, etc. Asuras (Rakshasas/Giants) is Demonic Creatures but have power like a gods. Pretas (Ghouls/Wraiths) Pretas are believed to have been false, corrupted, compulsive, deceitful, jealous or greedy people in a previous life. As a result of their karma, they are afflicted with an insatiable hunger for a particular substance or object. However, if we refrence to God in Monotheism it's difference cases. Yahweh/Allah/Ahura Mazda is One True God from Monotheism. His power is Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Omnipresence. Even His creation Satan/Iblis/Angra Mainyu cannot defeated Him. I don't know but Akashic Records and Lauh Mahfuz it's kinda same to me. In my opinion is Devas or Dewa or Hyang from Hinduism (Divine Spirit) is more like a Angelic Being in Monotheism. But, Devas is more respected and worshiped in they follower's view. And i believe with Taoism Cosmology about this universe have Three Realms. Heaven (天), Mortal (人), and Hell (地). Why i prefer (地) is Hell than Earth because if Heaven is Upper World, then Hell/Inferno is Underworld. Like Takamagahara and Yomi in Japanese Shinto Cosmology.

As a Buddhist I think the Christian / Muslim idea of one big "god" deity is slightly a different idea from what traditionally mean as "god" or "gods" in historical Indian and Hindu context Buddhist. Christian idea is like "the world (omnicience/omnipotence etc), it's workings and the origin of the world, which they seem to take as a person-like spirit who can be communicated with (as far as I know).
Generally there are many multiple "gods" in Buddhist traditions, and there are major ones. Some like Sakra and Brahma.
Brahma tallies somewhat with Christian "God", because both ideas are major gods and share the 'creator' quality (or that Brahma thinks he is the creator). But Brahma is not 100% tallying with "God", because of the context Buddhist gives for Brahma (e.g- he (and creatures of his realm) might have a mistaken idea that all the creatures came because of him, ??(not sure) he is a reincarnation from a person of a previous life, he is partly a subject to the status of Maraya).
Hindu idea of Brahma might also have variation from Buddhist. In Hindu I think there are also concepts of Shiva and Vishnu.
Historical Buddhist which was near India shared (or used similar) a lot of ideas relating to divinity with the Hindu traditions.

That the way of the Buddha learning and meditation can actually lead us to know who God really is instead of listening to man's construct of God. I believe we have God in us all but he is there to help us but he does not wish us to rely on him completely no blame the devil for every bad thing we do. I don't believe we are gods I believe that if we connect ourselves with everything existence we connect to God I believe God gave Buddha the wisdom that he had to teach us how to climb out of the darkness that is the social construct people have built.

    QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Would you be so passionate about your God if there was no promise of a glorious life after death?
Would you fear him if there was no threat of an eternity of pain and torment?
What if your God just delivered a message of peace and wisdom and his philosophy on death was eternal peace with no afterlife?
Would you remain faithful to him or would you seek another God who promised bliss or retribution after your demise?
Would you still worship a God who didn't claim the ability to heal all your ills and rescue you from the vagaries and pitfalls of life?
If you decide to discard the old God of the carrot and stick and begin to appreciate the philosophy and wisdom of a new entity who doesn't promise anything but internal peace and understanding then Congratulations, you are on your way to becoming a Buddhist and your new life will be better. Blessed be.

this is true. we as Buddhists know the existence of gods. but we don't think God created earth and humans. our belief in God is entirely different. so others might not fully understand it. we believe in rebirth. depending on your karma you may be born as a human/animal/spirit/gods in heaven. if you did good deeds on this life you may have a better life on your rebirth ( like a god in heaven or human on earth) but if you do bad deeds you may have a life on your rebirth. (animal/human in a bad state / or in hell). but the main focus of Buddhism is to avoid this rebirth. rebirth occurs due to the attachment we have to materials. achieving " nirvana " means you successfully managed to detach yourself from this materialism. people who achieve " nirvana" will never be born again. Buddhism teaches how to achieve "nirvana" and how to live a good life as a human being. "Buddha" means the person who attains this "nirvana" first and teaches Buddhisms first. "Buddhist monks " are the followers of Lord Buddha and they spread the word of buddha while trying to achieve "nirvana".
Buddhism has something for everyone. its teachings are more of a philosophy than a religion. Buddhism doesn't force anyone into religion. Buddhism teaches "come and see for yourself". if you are interested in Buddhism, research yourself more. if there's anything good you want to add into your life from Buddhism, embrace them to live a good life as a human being.
this is just a very very basic explanation for those who are interested in Buddhism.
every religion is different and my religion Buddhism teaches to respect every religion

Your comment embodies the entire essence of Buddhism. From how we never rejected Gods to how our lives are not supposed to be 'controlled' by Gods, but rather from the actions from our concise. '
Buddhism does not force religion to everyone, but rather invites you to experience for yourself'
Loved this sentence, as a Buddhist as well.

Why do I have emotions why can I decide the course of my life? I am in control but I live with consequence, regardless good or bad, like a game of chess. I am a Baptist Christian and I believe in this world their are souls of good and bad nature and we are all streams of life through god, I have dreams of being people entering my life even strangers and i end up meeting them, but later in the future. I swear Netflix is involved everything I watched I felt familiar with is life. Literally Netflix and each movie and episode a different reality, reality is nothing but perspective. That I am aware of. I feel as though Netflix is a portal into realities because not only did I have predicted dreams of the shows but I was always a main character or the second character but starting of in the dream I observe before becoming oneself. And the more I did this myself became less and less familiar, I am a humble person but I grasp on pride to maintain reality, confidence is key to me... “ i am human” and doing so you have to remember your origin at all times. And I feel if you gain control of “divinity it is a sin, a tool of witchcraft but when I was forgiven by Jesus in my dream I felt a thorn rope around my heart and a burst of blue flame, refreshing forgiveness, as a child of god I remain eternal life, even if it is repeated I believe your existence is heaven, the good the bad you’ll miss it all if Devine or dead, sadly.

According to Buddhism, there are 26 levels of heavens and gods living in heavens beyond 7th heaven consider themselves to be the creator.
There is a story in Buddhism about one such self proclaimed creator living in 9th level of heaven who was schooled by Buddha and later understood his folly after he lost to Buddha in psychic power demonstration.

Buddhism denies the existence of the supreme God or Creator. But they acknowledge the existence of gods (devas). Generally Buddhists don't usually worship them but some traditions do, like in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Thailand. Yet it's a personal choice to worship them, and not really mandatory in the Buddhist doctrine.

As the Buddha states in one of Pali verses as Kama is the main creator, cause of birth and death (Samsara), Kama is a network that makes us stuck in the Samsara and Kama is the relatives of all beings. Moreover, Kama determines people to be bad and good. Also the Buddha does mention about deities, heaven and hell but the deities here are different from God in other religions. He states that these deities are still under controlled and dictated by Kama like us because those who commit good Kama will go to heaven whereas those who commit bad Kama will go to hell. Metta

I see that Buddhist belief is the truth, no impositions no uncertainty, because the Christians and Muslims belief in one God a creator that cannot be ascertained rather they says it must be so. And again people need to know the God and of their creator themselves and not to be shown by another. Since it cannot be seen in reality then you don't need to force or impose what does not exist into people, God or gods are of spiritual realms and we are of physical world so the difference is as big as fire and water.

Buddhists believe in 31 planes of existence( out of which 26 levels are heavens). We believe that afterlife depends on karma. If our karma is meritorious, then we are reborn in lower heavens. If we have practiced meditation and attained jhanas, then we are reborn in higher heavens. If we have lived an evil life, then we are reborn as animals, ghost or demons in hells.

Lord Buddha didn't answer to questions about God because it's not it's not important.
But Lord Buddha rejected creation and Supreme God theory. According to the Buddhism, Gods are creatures in heavens. They aren't creators, almighty or immortal.
This is what Lord Buddha said about Supreme creator God.
"if the pleasure and pain that beings feel are caused by the creative act of a Supreme God, then the Nig@ṇṭa$ surely must have been created by an €vi| Supreme God, since they now feel such painful, racking, piercing feelings."
    - Majjhima nikãya, Devadahasanyutta, 101 -
"So, then, owing to the creation of a supreme deity, men will become murderers, thieves, unchaste, liars, slanderers, abusive, babblers, covetous, malicious and perverse in view. Thus for those who fall back on the creation of a god as the essential reason, there is neither desire nor effort nor necessity to do this deed or abstain from that deed."
    - Anguththara nikãya -
This is what Gautama Bodhisattva (in previous births of Lord Gautama Buddha) said about Supreme creator God.
"He who has eyes can see the sickening sight,
Why does not Brahmā set his creatures right?
If his wide power no limit can restrain,
Why is his hand so rarely spread to bless?
Why are his creatures all condemned to pain?
Why does he not to all give happiness?
Why do fraud, lies, and ignorance prevail?
Why triumphs falsehood-truth and justice fail?"
    - Bhuridatta Jathaka, 543 -
"If there exists some Lord all powerful to fulfil
    In every creature bliss or woe, and action good or ill;
That Lord is stained with sin.
Man does but work his will."
    - Mahabodhi Jathaka, 523 -
"If Brahma is lord of the whole world and Creator of the multitude of beings, then why has he ordained misfortune in the world without making the whole world happy; or for what purpose has he made the world full of injustice, falsehood and conceit; or is the lord of beings evil in that he ordained injustice when there could have been justice?"
    - Jathaka, 208 -

To believe in an emotional God is dogmatic. To have self realization to the path of enlightenment or bliss or moksa is Dharma or Dhamma. HUMAN natural being is Dharma. Human Being exist to learn through life experience in this world of samskara/disorder to find balance in the physical, emotional and spiritual body. Believing in a someone is to hv expectation and Budhism is all about not having expectation but to live in the present and live in oneness to the Absolute or Brahman.

I think the Buddha doesn't want us to focus on god existent because it will cause more harm than good. If we do what we suppose to do on here earth and live a righteous life then god will come to us at the end anyway, so why fret about his existence in this moment in time. But GOD does exist!!

In am hindu and there is same concept of as buddhism. Many gods earth goddess cycle of birth rebirth. God also born as human (avtar) and hindu consider buddha as 9th avtar(incarnation) if supreme lord Vishnu. As Rama(7th avatar) and krishna(8th avtar).
Also kalki is upcoming avatar of lord vishnu who will be born in shambhala village of india in bramhin family(similary in buddhism next buddha know as mitreya buddha will be born in shambhala village of india in bramhin family). Also there is many hindu god also mentioned in buddhist text.

Third thing buddha never say he end his rebirth cycle infact according to buddhism buddha will reborn as maitreya(kalki) buddha in sambhala village of india in bramhin family as warrior.
