After mentioning I am starting my journey on KDP I decided to check out the quality of their books. Knowing the quality of KDP books is very important to know what you want to print on them. But KDP is not the only game in the town of self publishing, and many authors choose not to self publish on KDP and go with publishing platforms like Blurb or Ingram Spark.
So, I ordered test books from both Blurb and Ingramspark self publishing, to check out and compare Amazon KDP VS Blurb VS IngramSpark.

Doesn't Blurb do distribution to other platforms also like Lulu? So you could sell your books on Amazon also? ( I'm new to this, just researching and finding out about these options ). Looking forward to your future videos!! :D

One can definitely publish their low content book on multiple platforms. The only time you cannot is if you entered into an actual agreement limiting your use of other publishers . . . but it's not against the law as a given. As well, one book can have more than one ISBN . . . it's not illegal.

If you buy your own ISBN you can use it on different market places. The book has to be exactly the same though (dimensions, color or black and white, number of pages). The ISBN is linked to the book not to the marketplace.
If you buy your own ISBN you have to buy it in your country of residence. In my country (the Netherlands) they are rather expensive, in Canada they're for free.

I'm feeling like medium to low content books will just be in printable, "KDP" ready form for me. I can publish one to show how the book will look if they decide to publish...then again I probably shoot myself in the foot in terms of profits. I'm definitely rethinking my plan now.
Hello! The last book from Blurb with premium color, what type of book is that, the photo book or trade book? Would you say the paper it good for journaling?
I made a couple of books on KDP, mostly for myself. With some I tried to follow those LCB gurus, but it just doesn't feel right. And having bad experiences with books I ordered, I don't feel like it's something I want to promote. I made standard black-and-white planners, but with grey in it, and the grey writing boxes in some books were full of white lines, in another one they were almost non-existent through half of the book. And the printing/trimming errors I read in other people's reviews... It's frustrating. In the KDP return policy they say to contact support, so I found out I didn't have to send it back to get a replacement for the worst one. But a simple buyer doesn't even know it's KDP, and the general return policy says they have to send back faulty products to get a refund or a replacement. So they rather don't, and just get mad, and they get mad at the writer, because they don't know it's Amazon who makes these books and doesn't have quality control. In a TH-cam video they said they have a 6s/book quality check, but you have to be blind not to notice those errors, so I doubt that. Sorry for the rant. 😅
I love your scrapbook pattern book! Ever since I saw those paper books out there (Flow, kikki.K), I dreamt about making my own, with patterns I like. Only because I like to look at pretty things. But since I don't scrapbook, there wasn't really motivation. It's a bit pricey to just gather dust on the shelf. 😅

Another great comparison video, Mey! Question for you….with your ‘’The Perfect Pattern’’ KDP book, how were you allowed to print on just one side and leave the back blank? I thought KDP allows very few ‘’blank’’ pages and will require you to edit the book to have fewer blank pages. It’s obviously important to have blank pages for a pattern book like you made, as well as for coloring pages where bleed through the page ruins the back side of the page. This is a message from KDP to someone who posted on reddit: ‘’We allow no more than two consecutive blank pages at the beginning or middle of a manuscript file and/or 10 consecutive blank pages at the end.” So I’m confused!
The key is consecutive. If you design a coloring book you put one coloring page followed by a blank page followed by an other coloring page and so on. If you design a coloring book this way there are no consecutive blank pages. Just every other page is blank.
Oh my goodness, you would doubly not appreciate the LC book I just bought from myself. Someone spilled floral scented laundry detergent on it! It was sudsy when I washed it. Literally a headache producing mistake because I am allergic to so many chemicals in scented products. 😵💫 (The matte cover is fine after being cleaned with rubbing alcohol.)
I'm writing a thriller. So you are basically writing books too LOL...nice to know and also thanks for this video about different publishers...it was quite instructful :)
I am now narrowing down the books I wanna make. Not sure I will launch a book just yet, every idea I have is so personal. But I will combine guided journaling with coloring in few books, and maybe make a full "yearly reset" notebook. Even thinking of making something for me and you guys like a journal for people who work on a side business.
What kind of paper do you recommend when designing a patterned scrapbook paper book? Also, is it good for printing different complementary patterns on both sides? Thank you Mey, love you and your videos.❤
Initially signed up for Ingram spark for my novel but now I want more creative control and I found blurb to be a better choice. I'm I wrong?
