    Thank you, for all your comments 🙏I will work on making some videos related to strategies around problem solving and system design. However, those topics will be hard to cover in just one or two videos, so I am thinking of making a video series that you can watch episodically to build on as you go. Hoping to have them ready in a month or so. Thanks for being patient :) In the meanwhile, I will continue to create some the usual content that will hopefully also be useful!
    Thanks again, really appreciate it :)

    Yes. Please make detailed video on Data Structures and Algorithms. Sometimes the competitive programming actually goes into the core of mathematics. How much maths? And generally what type of things should we focus more on? Maybe my questions have become a little unstructured. Apology for that.
    Edit: I've just completed second semester in my college. So, I think it's a nice time to structure my goals in college, will get to spend plenty of time focusing on specific topic.

    I was blown away when I saw you only had 1.4K subscribers this morning. The quality of your videos is top notch. Great communication, presentation, even color/design balance in your office space and filming/editing. I think you've set up everything for this channel to take off over this year and it's only a matter of time before I come back and see you've hit 100, 200, 500K, etc.
    I'm also a good sucker for a realistic view inside Microsoft/Google. Back in college I was flown out to campus two years in a row for final rounds and didn't quite make it either time. But I loved being on campus and got keyed into some of the (then) newer xbox studio buildings. I work in a rural area now w/ 8 years industry experience, but I always think in the back of my head I might move out to Seattle/SoCal for a change of pace and take another shot at Microsoft. Videos like these make me itch to pull out my algorithms books and prove how much further I am now by getting in.

    • @EngineeringwithUtsav
      @EngineeringwithUtsav  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your message! Really appreciate it. Honestly, if you feel like you'd like SoCal/Seattle, and working in big tech again, I'd say, do it! And hope my videos will be able to provide the push/motivation for you to go through with it if you desire so :) Good luck in whatever you decide!

    This was such a good breakdown on how to get into Microsoft as a Software Engineer! Utsav, thank you so much for putting in the time to make this video. I learnt so much from watching this one video compared to the 30-50 or so videos on interview preps for software engineering jobs at FAANG companies. The best part about how Utsav has broken this video down is that the process of preparing for an interview and the mindset required to succeed in them, can be applied across the spectrum of tech companies, not just Microsoft. I feel like I came away with this video with a solid roadmap on the core things I need to focus on to better prepare myself for the interview process. Furthermore, I have a very good understanding of the soft-skills I need to be building like problem solving, clear communication, effective collaboration, honesty and transparency, that will set me up for success. I'll just end here by saying that I especially appreciate how Utsav talked about how a technical interviewer thinks when they're interviewing a candidate - this is such valuable information because it helps put me in the shoes of the recruiter, allowing me to know how I need to be approaching different types of questions. I'll definitely be coming back to this video to rewatch and take further notes. I intend to use it as a guide to prepare for the interview process.

  • @jonathansilva3364
    @jonathansilva3364 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great tips! I would highlight the "How do you go about solving a problem?" part. Once, during an interview for one of FAANG, I was asked how I would implement "a Spotify" and I didn't even bothered to ask about which features were expected or even how was it supposed to scale on user's access, number of songs or whatever else. I jumped right into drawing boxes and lines in the whiteboard. It probably shown to the interviewer that I was not prepared enough or didn't had the expected experience , and it was most likely the reason I didn't get in, since I did pretty well in the coding challenges. The interaction and the QUESTIONS asked during these design sessions are the most important part IMO.

    • @EngineeringwithUtsav
      @EngineeringwithUtsav  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spot on! System design questions are as much about gathering requirements about functionality and scope, as they are about a high level design and then a deep dive in some specific part of the system.

    • @EngineeringwithUtsav
      @EngineeringwithUtsav  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At school, my biggest advice is to be curious. Try to think about how things you use everyday are built. And try to build them. How is facebook built? There are papers published on it. While they may be too technical, it will give you some pointers. Try to make basic one, you will learn a lot just in the process. Also, try to work on projects that solve your problems (even if they are minor... see my video on side projects).... this gets you into a habit to building things.
      Don't worry too much about doing things for the resume. When you are passionate and genuinely love to build things as an engineer, it will show.
