I've been looking for something like this for over 5 years. The first time that I've seen a video that I can actually understand. I even had a video with multiple djs on it just talking about scratching.
Glad I could help man, honestly 🙏🏾 - when I first started learning, I could never really find “exactly” what I was looking for. So I strive to create what really would have helped me when I got started 💯
Thank you so much for breaking down these scratch techniques! It is a bit of a challenge for me to learn how to apply scratch techniques during the music transitioning process. I honestly thought I could get a way with not counting beats but after watching your video, now I understand the importance of it
You’re more than welcome. Thanks for watching! And yeah, I understand completely. After a while, you’ll be able to count less and it’ll come natural, but in the beginning, I always found counting really helpful!
I just got my Ddj 400 and seeing a couple of your videos is helping me understand some transitions in hip hop tracks. My music is all hip hop, trap house, house. EDM is understand transitioning with the EQ filters. But hip hop transitions are different and these have helped a lot!
This was the first scratch pattern I was able to pull off and I'm addicted. I know this is probably sacrilegious to some but I would prefer these kinds of tutorials where you're using actual songs instead of the scratch samples because I never find myself wanting to load that up for a club audience but freaking LOVE getting a good scratch with a song like this. Would love to see you show more examples like this across genres and more specifically across BPMs
🙌🏾🙌🏾 appreciate the love and comment. And I hear you 100% on using actual songs. It def makes the content more digestible too. I have another “transition by scratching” video coming up soon and will be sure to use songs 💯
@@DJLiftOFF I'd like to ask something similar. What if you bring the new song a little bit off beat with the first track, how do you achieve to sync the new song correctly? I assume by CDJ mode, but how do you do it if the scratch mode is on? I hope my question doesn't sound overly complicated. I'm just wondering that even an experienced dj cannot hit the beat after scratching every single time...
Appreciate you! So I just use a tripod, and then a Glide gear OH50 boom pole to extend the camera above my Dj equipment. Then I use QuickTime player to screen record and capture audio as well!
I’m having a hard time understanding the bars and beats your using to explain when to scratch.. ik it’s just me because I’m not used to it. But can u explain your “three and”, and how to count the beats? I caught on how to count the bars. This would be a big big help ty in advance :)
Hi Dj liftoff , i love ur video tutorials am interested in to lear to scratch , i have a NI Z2 MIXER ,and am thinking to get a Rane twelve mk2 and use it whit traktor scratch pro > ? how u conect those the Rane twelve and the Z2 _? hope yu can help . Cheers !!
Definitely! I actually use a SZ2 often but it’s in my hometown in another state. However, I plan to get another controller really soon and start diversifying the equipment I record with 👌🏾
Thank You brother man this helps out a lot. You explain and broke everything down perfectly and clear. I’ve been trying to learn how to do this in between my style.
Thank you! 🙏🏾 Yeah, I definitely try and take my tutorials one step further and break down as far as possible or make it easy to understand! Glad it was helpful.
Woooooord this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for thanx so much Liftoff for listening to our/my struggles and coming thru wit the solution like no other. I’ll be practicing this until it’s perfect 👍🏽 can’t thank u enough 🙏🏽❤️
I really enjoyed all your videos and I learned from them. For this video, I like all patterns but, my favorite is # 3. can you please help me more? thnaks
If your cross fader is adjustable, it’s def personal preference. But for me, I like mine pretty loose for sure. Not too loose to the point where you have no control, but loose enough that it’s moves back and forth fluidly
I have a video where I actually show my mixer settings called “how to use the crossfader…” But really, it’s just making sure the curve knob/setting on your mixer is set to fast, which also means set all the way to the right. You can also do this in your DJ software with some controllers, depending on what you’re using!
Quick question - Do you actually have to flick the fader to scratch? I see every DJ doing it. I just want to understand what that actually adds to the scratch
Great tutorials for true beginners that gives the basics of Djing. I'm seeing way too many Dj tutorials online of crab scratching & transforming but the person can't stay on tempo or has absolutely no rhythm. I guess that's the downside of learning with today's equipment & advanced technology...
@@DJLiftOFF VDJ, but it has issues also. I stiil use ITCH with my V7s, because it has the option of long vertical waveforms that move in the right direction. VDJ used to provide an option to correct the movement, but now that option has been "deprecated". I'm a very old hand at this, have built several controllers, and if I could find the time, I'd just write my own software. Good video, BTW.
Hoping everyone is enjoying these scratch patterns 😎 -- Many more to come!
Very nice way to progress... Fun and with some practice it makes our transitions more professional

Great video got 1 question. At what point or how are starting the TI song? I don't ever see you hit the start button. Maybe I'm just missing it.
Appreciate you! And it’s playing during the entire video!! So before I start scratching it’s already playing.

This is a great service you are doing for beginner scratch DJs like myself (I mainly mix house music)! Thank you very much man.
Love house music man! But thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Have you heard of any issues with the rain four registered on the platter slipping?
I haven’t had any personally but I’ve heard others have had issues
Great tutorial! probably first that I have seen that shows exactly where or when to initiate the scratch and release.
Thank you! 🙏🏾

Can you do this scratch on any kind of beat or is it preferred to do it on a beat less bassy
I 'm gonna try it on my Transition DJ

What settings do you have for your “Mixer”. You didn’t specify what your crossfader options are. If that makes sense. Thanks for the lesson ✊🏾
