Yeah, Gerald Ford's "There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe" might genuinely have cost him the election: the campaign was a dead heat at that point, and as political writer Steven Hayward put it, "Whoever [candidate] made the last mistake would lose" - and Ford made the last mistake.
Biden would look at this video and say: "Hey! That guy on the.. thing looks a lot like me!"
That would be a lot to ask of him to recognize himself.

Had I been up there, granted I too wouldn't have expected such a question, I would have called out the media for sensationalizing issues with such graphic questions. Then I'd go on to say that it would be terrible tragedy and my heart would want the criminal to pay. But then I'd say, that both Kitty and I as a future President understand that sometimes a President much make decisions he personally has moral qualms with for the good of the country and that emotion cannot decide decisions blindly--so the public policy must trump personal grief of me and the country. Something with some feeling, some anger, vigor.
Agreed. These debates should never be personal. Heck, the entire job is the opposite of personal.

But he could have capitalized on it and chastised the moderator for asking it and then gave a heartfelt answer and it would have resonated instead of making him look like a liar and a robot.

Most presidents show significant signs of aging after each 4 year term due to the amount of stress and pressure the job entails. Trump is the only modern prez that hasn't shown that aging. Kind of shows he didn't take the job seriously and do anything himself.

One you missed is in 2016 where Hillary Clinton was trying to accuse Donald Trump of just about everything. On one she said something to the effect of one topic and Trump replied “because you’d be in jail”.

That time Gore and Bush were debating and Gore kind creepily lingered next to Bush as Bush was speaking and Bush pauses for a second and nods at Gore like “what are you doing?” was classic. Surprised it didn’t make it on the list

I miss the days when debates were exchanges of competing ideas rather than personal insults and acting like children. The tone and manner of the debates are reflections of national discourse.

Let me see if I got this straight, Perry’s flub is the most awkward debate moment and one example from Biden is #10? The truth is that last debate was unprecedented. Nothing like that has ever happened. It was one awkward moment after another. The top ten and many more all happened in 90 minutes.

The irony of Rick Perry leading the department he wanted to abolish is still one of the funniest things to this day to me. Anyone who wants to defund the DOE always forgets the not so secret part of that department (it's primarily the department of where we get material for our nukes)
