The first episode in S1 of the Witcher is actually the last thing they filmed due to Renfri actress being replaced so in a sense it makes sense that it has featured the best fighting sequence in that season.

Great review, the first 3 seconds were very important ! I agree with most of your points except for the fact you left out the in my opinion absolute shit job they did on Triss merigold. Triss is supposed to be blue eyed and chestnut red haired (if you go by the books) or ginger as fuck (if you go by the games ), however if you check out this link : th-cam.com/video/uG5ujUuyQMs/w-d-xo.html you'll see that she's neither, i feel a bit of basic makeup work could've fixed this and is defo something that needs fixing in season 2. Also I felt the Nivellen story is one of the best of the short story's and a glaring omission from season one, luckily the trailer for season two showed a hint of nivellen and if the shows follows the books, that episode/storyline should also scratch your itch for a bruxa ;) ! Finally i thought that Henry cavill fucking nails Geralt, but could use a bit more lines besides "grunt" " frustrated grunt" and " fuck grunt", so good shout on bringing that up ! Look forward to further reviews, are u planning on doing episode by episode reviews or the whole season in one go ?
I think it will be a binge followed by a whole season review. I'm guessing the reason Triss was cut from the script of the video (the original was twice as long), is that she just doesn't have an important role, and I think I did see them trying to change her appearance for S02 so didnt wanna beat a dead horse, but I might be wrong. Haven't read the books, but I'd love this Nivellen story to be adapted, you make it sound interesting. Her hair is absolutely fine if you go by the description in the original, Polish source material. Shaffer's hair matched the "chestnut" description in the books. Game Triss is the last thing I'd ever use to critique the show, given how much CDPR shat on her source material while creating the character for their products. And the hair colour is the last thing I'd ever touch up on in the first place, it's not very important. The important stuff is how much S1 deviated from the source material, just like The Witcher game shat all over it by ***********SPOILERS************** resurrecting Geralt and Yennefer in the first place. Right off the bat S1 featured shallow version of the Renfri story that made little sense, compared to the source material, and then doubled down by stripping one of the best short stories written by Sapkowski (Edge of the World) of all its meaning, and turning Jaskier's character 180 degree. While the book Jaskier said he'd never write a ballad of his and Geralt's experience, because it'd make humans go after Elves, the show Jaskier came up with the famous "Toss a coin" song tha revealed their location. That's the important stuff, not how Anna Shaffer's hair looks like in dark light.
First season was total mess and was created by people who dont feel good fantasy genre and witcher world . You cant jump story line in fantasy movie it was absurd idea . Good witcher movie should be too balanced around building atmosphere , tell story of heroes and entertainment related to action and spectacular fights . Story also has interesting complicated characters that require realy good acting . Trailers from Witcher were a masterpiece in this aspect and showed how it should look like mastepiece level . History In DLC to Witcher 3 was masterpiece too . This is really big story what irritate me in first season . The Cavil acting was also irritating for me because he was too stiff and not natural pretending to be someone without emotions, it would be better if he played his own versions of Wietcher on his own emotions instead of try something he is not too good . What j hate most in movies are cringe artificial actors play and not natural acting . etc . This is really not easy to play such type heroes like Geralt it requires a specific type of actor like Mads Mikkelsen where are you charismatic even without saying anything . The first season had few good moments but also had scenes and episodes very low level similar Xena series etc ..

On the one hand they sometimes tried to create a very brutal dark fantasy scenes and other hand they jumped up with a style like fantasy for children or movies of the B category. There was mess on evry level in first season . Even casting of the main roles are also more suited to a more family version of a fantasy film rather than a dark brutal one. In the dark fantasy version, both Geralt is too preatty and should have rather kind of acting like Mads Mikkelsen , Yen is too soft version becouse this is rather Eva Green diabolic kind character. Dandelion is also a totally infantile version like from children's movies too etc. and not a dark fantasy world etc. etc Ok if they have already chosen these actors and cant change actors should play on their own emotions and play own versions of characters because without creating chemistry between the characters, it will be hard to tell this emotional story good way especially in the next seasons . Cavil should start speaking in his own voice, not pretend to be play something he is not too good , reliable and too stiff (some beard for Cavil or a scars would be useful too becouse he is to preatty ) etc .
@@GlanceValue In my opinion, the best version of the series should combination of books and games, and the story should revolve around the main threads of the book and tasks related to the witcher's facies and fight scenes related to some side stories, such as side quests in the game . Weaving other threads related to the past of main heroes could have been solved much nicer in fantsy movie as e.g. some bard's stories and the legends he tells about legendary figures etc. The creators of the TV series should know the games very well too because it is the source of many great ideas good stories too .

I agree there was some miscasting, and it did have a B-feel to it at times, hoping the 2nd season improves!
