@jumpy2xstreaming great question. Once on board the main things you'll spend your money on are drinks, souvenirs, specialty dining. My girlfriend and I usually spend approximately $100-150 per day on drinks. (Give or take) Drinks average $8-$17. We usually have 5-6 drinks each per day. Specialty dining usually is $45-60 per person but keep in mind specialty dining is just an option. You can eat in the mdr(main dining room) and buffet and you'll be just fine. Not to mention there are plenty of free(included) places to eat on board. Excursions should always be purchased before your cruise. Most people explore the ports on their own. With that being said, excursions run $60-100 perperson... Last but not least souvenirs. Every cruise tons of gift shops on board. As a matter of fact every night they'll have a special on everything from ship merchandise, to watches to jewelry. So don't get carried away. Lol. So in conclusion, we normally spend about $700 to$1000 for the week. But please keep in mind you'll have complete control of your budget. If we are going to call the cruise industry bad for the environment, then you HAVE to include air travel and shipping. Cruise ships are ~1% of all marine traffic, so they have a small impact compared to all the rest of the shipping. And by person, cruise ships use less fuel to get to a destination than an airplane. The only vacation that is truly green is to stay local.

I have been fortunate to work in the travel/cruise business for over 25 years and this here shows you, while the US economy is not perfect, it is strong. Travel demand in general is very, very high despite high inflation. When the economy starts to go south, the first thing people cut is leisure travel as it is not necessary.

This video could have been summed up in 5 seconds, government bail outs. Without that deal that allowed them to raise capitol off the gov and that bond program, this could have had a different path for them.
These cruise ships are not based in US like the airline. If they based in US they will never make a profit due to wages. They not even get any Covid funds as they not base in US. Only exception is Carnival Cruises did receive $6 billion in a backdoor deal after the Federal Reserve announced plans to buy “unlimited” bonds to free up capital for lenders to invest in companies crumbling under corporate debt, such as Carnival also it’s not a bailout.
Its easy. Cruises are cheapest Dec-Jan and most expensive when kids are out of school. You can easily find a cruise thats less than $100/n. Cruises make thier money hoping you are a raging alcoholic or gambling addict. If you can do those two things in moderation. You can get by pretty cheap. Leaving on the Anthem for 12nights in 3 days. Man im stoked
People are spending more because cruise lines have raised their prices across the board for everything. That seems like a misrepresentation on the part of the cruise lines.
Yeah but cruises aren't a necessity so it means that people are happy to pay the price for what they get in return, otherwise they could have chosen a different option
Would love to try an RCL cruise one day. I remember shorting it during the pandemic and making good money. Shoulda had the patience to hold it on the recovery though. Easy 2-3x.
been on RCL only a couple times (Adventure and Harmony) . I can't speak for the entertainment on other cruise lines buy RCL shows are wow!! alot of fun! Very entertaining! I would say if you go with RCL go on a oasis ,quantum or icon class ship. They are newer, bigger, and always something to do! The service is top notch as well. I'm planning on going on an Alaskan cruise at some point!
They’re incredible! Me and my friends went on the Wonder of the seas! $1,500 per person and we got two dining restaurants. The premium restaurants taste amazing, the activities are so fun, and everyone has a good time
Cruising demand is a secular growth story but the stocks are trading like the spike in demand is temporary. The growth in demand is really being driven by first time cruisers. As a first time cruiser myself, I can tell you that I had no interest whatsoever in cruising until I agreed to go on a cruise. We had one of the best vacations of our life on the cruise and we have already booked several more. Many of these first time cruisers, like myself, see the fun and value in cruising and we are now hooked on cruising. The forward P/Es on these companies are modest and their growth is exploding rapidly due to high demand/limited inventory…..sound like a good combination for higher prices and full ships. Appears that Royal Caribbean is a real standout in this market but not the largest operator. MSC is entering the U.S. market aggressively (see new Miami port facilities). I believe the secular bull story in cruising is intact
I haven't cruised since the 90s (and only once, with Costa; Costa Victoria). Environmentally and living far away from any port (Europe), it makes no sense in my case. I live vicariously through Ben + David's videos of cruising. ;-) I'll stick to train travel...
Carnival is the Spirit Airlines of cruise lines. You think you're paying less, but after all the fees you end up paying about the same for a crappier experience.
Crappier experience? A cruise is what you make of it. If you’re goal is to let lose and have fun, then you will have a great time no matter what cruise line you take.
If these cruise lines weren’t so preoccupied with avoiding paying certain American taxes, they could have been bailed out like the airlines. Makes me wonder why we ever bail out the airlines.
Cruise ships are great value for money. They are more environmental friendly than cars and flights ✈️. With Carbon Intensity Indicator for cruise ships, Green House Gas emissions from cruise ships will be greatly reduced.
Pay $4k to spend more money on a floating “all-inclusive” ocean-going prison and travel days to spend less than 24hrs at some of the most touristy locations with the public. Sounds like an unsustainable business strategy. If raising prices is the only way to save an industry, it ain’t being saved. It’s being resurrected for certain doom again. Most peeps I here talking about cruises say they wouldn’t consider doing it again
Worth noting that whilst the industry has recovered from the pandemic, the quality of product is actually worse than pre-Covid. Something that is only exacerbated by the trend toward these mega ships that are akin to factory farming for vacationers. You would struggle mightily to get me on Icon of the Seas, for example. Prices are going up yet the level of customer service, food and itineraries are arguably going in the other direction. A few lines still pride themselves on these things but the picture with Royal Caribbean and Carnival is patchy at best.
I love cruising - but with all the add ons - it's starting to get out of hand and I disagree - land vacations are cheaper unless you don't add the drink package - etc...

“63 cruise ships owned by parent company Carnival Corporation emitted 43% more sulfur oxides, a group of harmful air pollutants, than all the 291 million cars in Europe in 2022.”
I'm a solo world traveler, I don't like the idea of being stuck in a ship full of kids running around and have 3 buffets/ day. I don't like crowds! The closest cruises I did were unique and short, it was mainly to connect to my next destination. Many years ago, my 1st ship voyage was from Venice to West Coast Greece and bus to Athens. The Minoan line was a combination of cruise lines+ commuters transportation, I like the idea of multiple pricing and freedom to choose your meals at different pricings restaurants. As a solo budget traveler, I brought my own sandwiches, cookie, fruits etc😅 I remember it cost approx 70 euros each way, with a share cabin, my roommate was German, we had great conversations during the 12 hours voyage 😊. There's were backpackers who sleep on the dock for 20 euros with their sleeping bags 😅 there's a pet kernal. On the lower deck, there's trucks transporting goods. Family cars where European travel within the continent. The 12 hours journey was very pleasant, sunrise, Sun set, and the Minoan bus transport bmw to Athens 😊 I also took the 2 nights Nile River Cruise in September 2021 from Aswan to Luxor, Egypt. I didn't like 3 buffets/day. But the temples stops were awesome. I love my Turkish Rivera wooden yatch cruise, 3 days 2 nights! The skipper docked along the coast, cook fresh Mediterranean meals, we all jumped into the sea to swim! We hiked the st Nicholas Island before sunset, strolled on a resort town etc. There were 12 guests, 6 cabins with showers! I would like to repeat this voyage soon! 😊
They didn't. People were just super eager to get out after 2 years of not being able to. They'll be in hot water again in 10 years when people get tired of paying $24 for a McDonald's meal.
Cruise is good if its around the world and youre allowed to go off boat for days I mean most great places are near seas and big rivers, and one of my dreams is to travel the world in an RV with a tow holding my bike , always on the road and the bike because driving the open road and feel the vastness and enjoy the full view of the scenery. Being an Oligarch(owning the world) must be nice its not impossible for them do that. money isnt a problem and visa dont apply to them.
I’ve been on one cruise, it wasn’t bad but stopping at these touristy places I just felt like a wallet. I haven’t been on a cruise since, just traveling and making up my own itinerary.
If they close the price gap with land based vacations much of the appeal of cruising will go away. Especially how they are bragging about the 20% spend up once on board.
My wife wants to go to Europe. I be like lets go on a cruise. We settled on Machu Pichu and the Galapagos islands. Cruise is next. I live in Hawaii so one that goes to Australia or Alaska and back would be nice.
Oh the hypocrisy of the tree huggers. One of my best vacations for the dollar and I’ll be getting on 3 back to back to back cruises in May & June, Eastern Western then Southern Caribbean.
Depending on what you’re looking for, there are still some good options out there. Prices are higher and there’s no escaping that unfortunately, but you do have some choices as far as overcrowding and quality of product/service goes. Celebrity, Holland America, Royal and Carnivals mid to small size ships etc. I’ve also heard good reviews about Virgin but I’ve not sailed on them and they are adults only.
Its absurd that you cover the so called "dark days" yet at 1:12 show the background picture of ships being destroyed and don't cover why. The cruse industry had to get cash to pay their debts during the pandemic, the way they did this was by scraping their ships (1:12 background pic). Those ships were good for another 10-20 years they had to be destroyed for cash. 9:30 Do you understand the amount of pollution it takes to scrap a ship of this size and also build another to replace it? Also basic supply and demand economics 2:45, "why are cruise ships recovering so fast with revenue" oh maybe its more because the demand is back pre covid (plus your normal growth rate that's relatively constant) but theirs a significant amount of less ships thus the ticket prices are more expensive than otherwise would be if they weren't forced to get rid of so many ships for cash Great journalism right here in this video......

Went on a cruise in February, going again in 2 weeks, and again in October. It’s a great way to see a little bit of a lot of places. It’s the sampler platter of travel.
Hell yeah! I am buying more and more Carnival stock with every paycheck.
I am planning to do that for the next 5 year and see what happens!
So far I am pretty happy.
Go CCL!!!
"Closing the gap between land based travel" seems like a bad model. Don't increase your costs to the customers, you may be over analyzing how many people choose cruising as preference over its substantial value.
this is the dumbest thing ive read
@@myusernameisthisduh which board do you sit on? Or do you own stock?
@@myusernameisthisduh I guess you don't read much.
The thought of spending a week or two, trapped on a 5* floating prison with the general public gives me nightmares.
You're not trapped, you get off every day in a new place to explore
Can someone please share this presentation with the CC stock? I think it hasnt yet gotten the memo......
Shaq is back at the Carnival!
All I know is, yesterday we were docked at a port, when RC held its sail away 🎈 🎊 🎉party‼️💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💝💝💝I have never heard such wonderful singing and music 🎼 🤩
Well considering they dump their trash into the ocean, it's not really comparable
@@Freiheit1232 What trash? The food? That's the only part that goes overboard. The rest of the garbage gets taken to ports. And much of it is recycled- paper, glass, metal, plastic, etc. And if cruise ships do it, then certainly, container ships will be as well.
@@Freiheit1232I don't know why people say cruise ships dump trash to ocean. THEY DON'T. I work as a engineer for a cruise line company . only waste we dump to ocean are
1. bathroom shower drain water
2. treat sewage
@@cruiseengineerBecuaee releasing SEWAGE into the ocean is perfectly acceptable 🙄
@@tioswift3676I said treated sewage which indistinguishable from normal drinking water . Ships use millions dollar machinery to do this . And weekly testing of treated sewage is done ensure it quality
I have been fortunate to work in the travel/cruise business for over 25 years and this here shows you, while the US economy is not perfect, it is strong. Travel demand in general is very, very high despite high inflation. When the economy starts to go south, the first thing people cut is leisure travel as it is not necessary.
Just finished a cruise on Oasis of the Seas and next year will be cruising on Icon of the Seas. Best way to spend a vacation in my opinion
well made video. love the use of stats and data. visualizations and graphics were great
Yesss we're back baby! This was very interesting, I'd love to see how MSC compares to these examples. 😁
First cruise in November and we had a blast. Itching to get back on a cruise. We can’t stop talking about it lol
please pick carnival lol.
@@happyscrub unfortunately we might have to. Want to go on icon but it’s way too expensive
@@Yomel123 My stock will thank you :)

The video could have been a short. I cruised before, during, and after the pandemic. They took a lot of things away and charged more to cruise.
What did they take away?
Im working in the cruise embark/ debarkation as a part timer. My co worker said carnival is like the Walmart for cruise lines 😅
It is but worth it if u got a big family.. I got family of 6 and pay no more than 5k
@@mystroharrison1173 I went on a traditional Nile River Cruise in Egypt in September 2021, it cost only $55/night. 3 buffets/day+ tea time. It was only 2 days voyage but it just the way I wanted it.
I would like to go to coco cay Bahamas with Royal Carribean this year
This video could have been summed up in 5 seconds, government bail outs. Without that deal that allowed them to raise capitol off the gov and that bond program, this could have had a different path for them.
wrong, the government didn't help the cruise companies because they are registered in tax havens.
Weird how the free market doesn't apply to big businesses
Cruises didn’t get bailouts.
There was NO government bailout for cruises.
What if I’m a raging shuffleboard addict and want to beat the old retirement folks at the game?
Norwegian is amaz8ng abd taking a cruise is cheaper than a hotel! Only bad thing is having to ADD the flights to get to port
My last cruise was on Royal Caribbean 2019. I had a blast. I will plan on going back soon.
I just came from a cruise and loved the experience. I’m investing on that alone
Currently 24 and still have yet to go on a cruise when already 97% of my friends and people I grew up with already had at least once or twice!!
I am in my 40s and never been on one, don't feel bad.
People are spending more because cruise lines have raised their prices across the board for everything. That seems like a misrepresentation on the part of the cruise lines.
16 dollar milk shakes on the Icon of the Seas.
Yeah but cruises aren't a necessity so it means that people are happy to pay the price for what they get in return, otherwise they could have chosen a different option
Damn this constant bells music is exhausting
I went on a cruise in August 2023 and enjoyed it.
Really good review.
False. All cruise lines are like this, not just carnival
The fact that the cruise industry didn't die doesn't keep tasteful people from wishing it had.
I think people just feel safe on a Cruise. You know, no falling door.
Cruise ships are great value for money. They are more environmental friendly than cars and flights ✈️. With Carbon Intensity Indicator for cruise ships, Green House Gas emissions from cruise ships will be greatly reduced.
I am very glad with royal Caribbean and carnival cruise lines so well I feel sorry about Norwegian cruise lines
Can't wait to go on my very first cruise 💯💯💯💯💯💙💙💙💙🤍🤍🤍
We want former male voice actor in CNBC documentary films.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

For some reason I learn about cruise after Covid and 2024 gonna be my first cruise
Never doubted them
Yes! Scheduled another for August 2024.🚢 GO CARNIVAL!
“63 cruise ships owned by parent company Carnival Corporation emitted 43% more sulfur oxides, a group of harmful air pollutants, than all the 291 million cars in Europe in 2022.”
Gotta love Royal Caribbean International! How is Carnival bigger than Royal Caribbean? That’s kind of astonishing!
Well anything mass market (most people can afford) will be bigger than companies that serve upper market.
Because they own other cruise companies, big ones being princess, holland and cunard
Carnival owns lots of cruise brands
@@omgness1234 oof those companies are well known giving underpaid wages for workers from 3rd world countries
That is wonderful!
Dont compromise on safety becUse the cruise is cheap. Our carnival freedom fire caught on fire in the middle of the ocean and it was quite scary.
Literally nothing happened apart from damage to a decorative part of the funnel
The 12 hours journey was very pleasant, sunrise, Sun set, and the Minoan bus transport bmw to Athens 😊
I also took the 2 nights Nile River Cruise in September 2021 from Aswan to Luxor, Egypt.
Amazing
Cruise ships are also getting cleaner and more efficient. And they are also getting starlink.
Just got off a cruise a few days ago. Room service wasn’t free anymore
I'm not cruising until they stop charging single people extra fees.
I’ve been on one cruise, it wasn’t bad but stopping at these touristy places I just felt like a wallet. I haven’t been on a cruise since, just traveling and making up my own itinerary.
Cruising - The best thing since sliced bread!
You might be able to catch a repositioning cruise from Hawaii to Australia in the autumn or the opposite from Hawaii to Alaska next march :)
I can’t wait to be back on a cruise ship in two months!!
I wonder what is the designed lifespan of a cruise ship like this?
25 years
And Disney Cruise Line get so well too
Oh the hypocrisy of the tree huggers.
One of my best vacations for the dollar and I’ll be getting on 3 back to back to back cruises in May & June, Eastern Western then Southern Caribbean.
I don't understand the whole private island. I mean maybe once but would anyone want to go there over and over again?
Good to know
These days the boats are crowded af and prices are through the roof. No more cruises for me thanks.
Well if cruising is coming back. Time to buy their stocks again.🎉
Why doesn’t the Carnival president talk about cutting benefits for its employees?
Amazing news
Thank you. Insightful.
Also basic supply and demand economics 2:45, "why are cruise ships recovering so fast with revenue" oh maybe its more because the demand is back pre covid (plus your normal growth rate that's relatively constant) but theirs a significant amount of less ships thus the ticket prices are more expensive than otherwise would be if they weren't forced to get rid of so many ships for cash
Great journalism right here in this video......
I need to book this cruise asap!
Love!
it's too bad all cruise lines are nickle and diming you now, Staff levels are cut in half and service is lacking now.
RCCL, also owns TUI Cruises right?
Half of it I believe
Net Zero ? Easy… obligate your vendors to be net zero and trade with you for all the Dino juice you’re drinking. Alternatively, making all cruises by sail would also work
It is relatively cheap when everything is expensive in us
10:00 the US Navy will gradually retire their nuclear powered carriers maybe they could convert them to cruise ships
From your lips to God's ears, son
No it isn’t my carnival cruise stocks are still below pre-Covid levels
Cruising got too expensive. $10 domestic beer $15 glass of wine. Mandatory gratuity. No thanks, I'll pass.
I'll only go on a cruise with a drink package and gratuity package available..most have them.
The money doesn’t add up, this will be either extremely way more expensive in the future or these companies will go bankrupt.
What comeback
I played football at Alabama and I want to cruise but I cant afford it 😢
