While it is funny to hyperbolize saying that all the SW Prequel hate came after the Plinket reviews, you cannot deny the reach and impact those videos had not just on Star Wars fandom, but online critiques and humour in general. The "video essay" as we know it today spawned from those reviews. For good or bad, not to overfluff it, but it was really like South Park often was. It changed things even for people who were either unaware of it or only knew it second-hand. And the people who made the sequels undoubtedly saw those reviews and were influenced by them when they made their scidmarks on the cinematic toilet bowl of history.
I'd recommend watching comedy shows from around the time the prequels came out; the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones being irredeemable crap was part of the zeitgeist of the 00's. There are episodes of things like the Simpsons and Spaced that riff on it. While the Plinkett videos certainly didn't help those movies reputation, claiming RLM is responsible for those films' reputation is like saying Rise of Skywalker was only disliked because of MauLer or something (arguably even more ridiculous since at least MauLer and his tedious videos are contemporaneous of the Disney SW movies).
@@laurenpeacock6343 Years ago in some video that I cannot remember the name of, Mike said something to the effect of the Plinkett reviews being the basis of internet reviews from that point forward. They are aware of how impactful those videos have been on internet culture. Hell, I watched a video game review that came out a few weeks ago that had a dude doing the Mr. Plinkett voice.
Regarding cocking shotguns. Many people load their shotguns with the action closed and store them that way for safety purposes. That way it is as ready as it can be without it being able to go off if someone happens to grab it and just pull the trigger. In such a case, you have to cock it to load the first shell before firing. It would not eject a shell because there is not yet one in the chamber. So the cocking of a shotgun before using it is not only cinematic, but does actually make practical sense in the case laid out above.
Mike is very critical of people's attempts at accents in this video, despite the fact he watched a whole movie about (and filled with) Australians which he thought was British. Also, Fargo is from 1996, not 1994. Hack frauds!
Speaking of re-releases, a local theatre had a 45th anniversary re-release of Alien a few weeks back, and when we went it was my friend, and literally only two other people in the theatre, and I want to cry.
The RLM guys are TH-cam royalty, Mike is considered a a credible and reliable voice in this space, yet he still watches stuff like Alien Hunt on Vudu. Very good
The revisionist history these Prequel fans have created is wild. The fact that I've genuinely heard people say the Plinkett review is why people hated them is insane, how anyone can sit through those movies and not see how awful they are is beyond me.
The prequels were just as unforgivable as the sequels. Remember wondering what sort of tragic series of events resulted in Anakin Skywalker, a noble Jedi knight and a good man, turning to the dark side? Then the prequels came out; turns out Anakin was always a c*nt.
One thing I remembered about Revenge of the Sith when it came out was that its reception was all over the place. Some people said it was the best star wars film ever, and some people said it was horribly written
Having watched the prequels recently for the first time in almost twenty years I can confidently say that the phantom menace is the most entertaining one.
ABIGAIL felt like the greatest remake that Dark Castle never got to do. And seeing it in a nearly empty theater without having seen that much of the trailer was heaven on earth.
Last Stop in Yuma County is a solid 90 minute slice of film making. Great characters, great tension and definitely feels a bit like a 90s film. It’s weird, if it had been released in the 90s it would have been lost in the mix, but being made and released now it feels like a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend.
I've just seen Alien Hunt. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. I cheered. I cried. I fist pumped the air, I stood and cheered. Its ABSOLUTELY everything you hoped it would be. And I can't WAIT for you to see it :)
Zach claims that his face has recently changed shape, based on an accident he had in the high school musical Era. In reality, his face has become wide like that because of excessive cosmetic surgery; also, he's clearly on performance enhancing substances, and one of the common side effects of some, like Human Growth Hormone makes the facial/jaw structure widen a lot.
He slipped over and broke his jaw in 2013, he had reconstructive surgery but what happens is the jaw muscles that are functioning get bigger to make up for the jaw muscles that aren’t as efficient anymore, in this case his masseyter, the way to prevent this is physical therapy which he stopped doing in 2021, causing them to grow in size. I’m not saying he hasn’t had anything done, I’m not saying he’s not on steroids but to suggest like the jaw reconstruction and therapy doesn’t have anything to do with it is disingenuous.
Interesting fact about The Iron Claw, the real story is even worse. They had to cut one of the Von Erichf brothers out of the movie (who also died) because it was just too much.
Just writing this comment as per your guys' recommendation. I will NOT watch Alien Hunt. I will NEVER talk about it. I WON'T remember it a week from now, and I most certainly do NOT care.
I talked to a younger guy at work once who said his favorites are the prequel trilogy, and he was mad about the new ones, not for any of the many valid reasons for disliking them, but because “they should have done something different instead of having the good guys always win again”. I said “you know the good guys completely lost in the end of the prequels right?” He said “no, because Obi-Wan won that final lightsaber fight”…cannot make this shit up.
The best part of being an alcoholic is that I can hear all that junk about Abigail and know that in a month I'll have forgotten all of it by the time I get to the movie in my backlog
What I love about Abigail is that one of the genres it's cross-breeding is the old timey, Haunted Mansion Mystery Ensemble. All the tropes from The Haunting, to Scooby Doo to Clue are present - even the secret passageway behind the bookcase! To my knowledge, there's never been a Vampire/Gangster/Haunted Mansion Mystery before, let alone one that works!
No Mike, you rack a shotgun to chamber a cartridge too. Most shotguns aren’t drop safe so you don’t want to store one with a round chambered in case it falls over
I went to go see the Phantom Menace in theaters the other week after everyone was talking about what an amazing experience it was. I hadn’t seen it in years, so I thought it wouldn’t be that bad, but oh God. It’s just as dull and boring as I remembered. There was also a kid sitting next to me with his parents who kept asking when it would be over, and only laughed when Jar Jar stepped in shit.
"Alien Hunt" is a gripping and unsettling film that masterfully blends elements of science fiction, horror, and psychology. Set on an uncharted planet, a team of elite hunters led by Captain Lance Harper (Benedict Cabbagebag) embarks on a perilous mission to capture The Hunters - an enigmatic extraterrestrial predator. As the hunt unfolds, it becomes clear that The Hunters possess uncanny abilities and the lines between hunter and hunted blur as the team members exhibit signs of mounting paranoia, mistrust, and despair. With excellent performances, stunning visuals, and thought-provoking themes, "Alien Hunt" is a remarkable cinematic achievement that will leave audiences breathless long after the final credits roll. A must-see for fans of science fiction, horror, or psychological drama, this film stands as a testament to the power of storytelling to explore our deepest fears.
33:01 Pumping a shotgun does two things: It ejects a spent shell from the chamber, and it also loads a fresh shell from the magazine tube into the chamber. When you load a totally-empty shotgun, you have to pump it once before you can shoot, and the first pump doesn't eject a shell.

All this rum and coke is making my stomach hurt so I think I'm gonna ditch the coke from this point forward
Yeah I’m not sure if they realise how genuinely influential their reviews were.
Poor Zach Effron, breaking his jaw in that tragic three surgeon pileup.... 😂😂
The fact that they keep ignoring Dune's existence is proof of their commitment to trolling their audience.
I love it.
What's a dune?
@Ripcookiethief It's a hill made of sand, but this is not what's important right now.
they completely ignored Godzilla Minus One. I thought they would have plenty to say about that one.
They are leaning heavily into the fartsy of their artsy-fartsy phase.

Phantom Menace is the first film Jay ever saw !

Very good
he didn't watch it and never will, he just thought it would be funny if he fans made it trending. i did a review of "Alien Hunt" here on TH-cam
The revisionist history these Prequel fans have created is wild. The fact that I've genuinely heard people say the Plinkett review is why people hated them is insane, how anyone can sit through those movies and not see how awful they are is beyond me.
The worst bit is they act like only the sequels are bad, maddening
It's easier to blame Mike than realise you loved a turd of a film when you were a child
"The minute he sees a tree, he's checked out." That explains why Rich loves Fury Road so much haha
Mike would be in a senior home and the Prequels fans would still be asking him to amend his opinion on the prequels
ABIGAIL felt like the greatest remake that Dark Castle never got to do. And seeing it in a nearly empty theater without having seen that much of the trailer was heaven on earth.
For years and years Mike has been thinking of ways to diss Phantom Menace without reverting back to Plinkett. He finally did it. Well done, Mike
Finally I'll learn what my opinions on the crap that came out this year are!!!
Dusk till dawn I had no idea it was about Vampires, I loved the surprise.
Somehow, Phantom Menace got back in theaters...
Happy to see the Jim Cummings call-out!
Y’all should watch Thunder Road if you haven’t! It’s his best imo.
He was also prominent in the Barry finale.
FINALLY! A part 2 I can get behind! Eat your heart out Hack Snyder!

Since I know how much Mike will care, you should definitely watch and re:View Godzilla Minus One
The Batman was my favorite on the list
Fun fact: Iron Claw completely omitted yet another brother that died because they felt it would be too sad.
Just writing this comment as per your guys' recommendation. I will NOT watch Alien Hunt. I will NEVER talk about it. I WON'T remember it a week from now, and I most certainly do NOT care.

Time Addicts is an Australian film...
It’s fine
Burgers are stupid.
Thank you Mike and Jay, I sure do feel like a hack fraud watching this
"the zone of interest" was excellent and fits into mikes philosophy that not every movie needs to be lite or make one feel good.
Most shotguns aren’t drop safe so you don’t want to store one with a round chambered in case it falls over
This video got me really exited for Alien Hunt.

Oh Jay, we all knew your favorite actor would be named 'something' Cummings.
I nearly choked to death on pasta at work when mike fucking said, “it’s different than schindler’s list” jesus christ

"Alien Hunt" is a gripping and unsettling film that masterfully blends elements of science fiction, horror, and psychology. Set on an uncharted
planet, a team of elite hunters led by Captain Lance Harper (Benedict Cabbagebag) embarks on a perilous mission to capture The Hunters - an
enigmatic extraterrestrial predator. As the hunt unfolds, it becomes clear that The Hunters possess uncanny abilities and the lines between
hunter and hunted blur as the team members exhibit signs of mounting paranoia, mistrust, and despair. With excellent performances, stunning
visuals, and thought-provoking themes, "Alien Hunt" is a remarkable cinematic achievement that will leave audiences breathless long after the
final credits roll. A must-see for fans of science fiction, horror, or psychological drama, this film stands as a testament to the power of
storytelling to explore our deepest fears.
33:01 Pumping a shotgun does two things: It ejects a spent shell from the chamber, and it also loads a fresh shell from the magazine tube into the chamber. When you load a totally-empty shotgun, you have to pump it once before you can shoot, and the first pump doesn't eject a shell.
Seeing RedLetterMedia shit on The Phantom Menace in 2024 gives me life
