Incredible job John. Any experienced hunter knows what you go through. It's hard enough to simply spot and stalk let alone film it. The community truly appreciates your hard work. Thank you and your friends and family for providing this fabulous video work. Happy holidays to you and yours.
I always look forward to your walks through the woods during PA rifle. Truly awesome to see what good property management can do for the herd. The number of deer you ran into is what I imagine when the old timers talk about what the “good old days” were like. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along!
Great video as always. I like the real sense of emotion which comes through in your videos. Real people! Our camp, like you and your crew use a combination of sitting and still hunting in the big forests of British Columbia, all depending on the whitetails and conditions. Falling in the creek, getting wet, getting hung up or wacked in the face by brush, well if you haven,t had this happen then you still have a ways to go on the quest to be a bush country hunter. About the shot. That is your call, you were there experiencing it first hand. The rest of us are watching an edited video on the 52 inch. Great video sequence, loved the tension and excitement but none of us has the right to a judgement.
While it’s a true bummer that over the past 5-10 years or so, the leatherwood gang hasn’t been where/what they once were w/ the whole gang or at least 80% of the guys tagging out w/ nice bucks, but I definitely am always happy when I see my homeboy Johnny do what he does best!! I wish Shane, Hunter, Trevor, Toth, and Smith would be in more content, but John will always be the glue that held this channel’s foundation together, bringing it success!! Thanks for the video and all your time, effort, dedication, and most of all “realistic information/tips” that you have provided to many of us, especially myself on my 10 year quest after a big NJ/NY buck!! Probably would have never pulled off harvesting the three 3.5-4.5 y.o. bucks I managed to harvest in recent years after many seasons of tag soup!! Thank you John!! Keep doing your thing and I would definitely not mind helping you out in the future whether for content, helping record you so that you don’t have to be multi-tasking, or trip assistance as well. Least I can do to help and learn more from the man who single handedly made me the hunter I am today, starting at age 17 when I first found this channel.
Thanks! Yeah its been a big change the last 10 years. Toth became a father this year and Shane had his second. It's just been tough with us all to hunt together anymore. We used to put every ounce of energy into archery and rifle but we just don't have the time. And when we do it's tough with the camera. Hopefully when kids get older some of the guys might get back into it.
Sneaking up on that bruiser during your annual traditional muzzleloader video is too much for me to dream about. I sincerely hope you get that opportunity!
I have only two wishes in my life. The first is to live in an area like yours with the amount of deer you see and secondly to have your eyesight. What you see at distance is truly amazing. Always love your videos. Keep up the good work.
What a beautiful buck john... and with that drop tine off the main beam below his G2 he had it all... absolute tank of a buck... made my 8 pt this year look like a twerp
Great video! I am astounded at how well you can pick them out at those distances. I believe you may know those woods almost as well as the deer do! And your patience while filming adds to the quality exhibited. Thank you for sharing your woods with us!
As always, great video, done perfectly. Lot of Northcentral PA had no acorns, second or third year in a row. No animals in the woods there because there is no food. Very sad
Nice footage. I've been seeing lots of pa giants up here in North Central Pa. Lots of deer around. It blows my mind but tons and tons of private property and leases. So I think that's why we see all these deer. Again great footage from one filming outdoor enthusiest to another.
Great video,, you hunt like we do here on the new york pa. Line ,, other than the hunting public guys you do it the real way. , appreciate your content.
Thanks. The hunting public guys said in a podcast once that they watched our videos alot before they went to TH-cam! Zach even invited me to join them on thier first deer tour. I didn't have the time.

No words, man. You most always out do your previous video(s). This video in particular, was stellar. I’ve been a follower since you launched and you’ve produced a lot of great content over the years. Now that life has dealt you a different hand and your time is limited- I’m grateful for what you do manage to get out. I know you have to balance home and outdoors, but I also know you’ll get out in late season with the smokepole. Filling a tag on this big buck with the flintlock, would be a blessing for sure. Make it happen. Thanks for putting out great homegrown content.
Thank you for sharing your great videos and wow what a great buck !!! I really enjoy watching you all at the camp !!! Awesome group of guys !!! 🙋♂️👍🦌🦌🦌🤗
That's the way it goes for me. If I'm hunting does, bucks show up. I had a spike show up and came within 5 yards of the tree that I was sitting in. I had taken a buck 2 days before and needed to fill a doe tag before going after buck #2. The spike spotted me in the stand, but couldn't make me out. The breeze was in my favor. It stood there and stomped, did head bobs and everything it could to get me to move. After a few minutes, he finally walked away down the hill. Not 10 minutes later, a 3 pointer did the same thing to me. I was whispering under my breath, "Go back in the thickets and bring out ya Momma!"
Hey John, it's been awile. You absolutely did the right thing. If your gut tells you not to shoot, then it's better to let them walk. I know that in the back of your mind you know that you will get a crack at that buck sooner or later and he will be even bigger next season, and yes he did have a drop tine on his right side. Hope you get that Monster!
I remember him as the bear guru and then he started working with PA Game Commission to decrease the number of yearling bucks being taken during the gun season. Most bucks were 1 1/2 years old when they were harvested. Now, PA is sporting some the largest racks in the Eastern US. I wonder where Alt is?
You would have made Daniel Boone proud the way you hunt and take care of your property. Enjoyed the video. You are correct about northcentral Pa. deer .

is that the hardest way of hunting, vs tree stand or road hunting, your one of the few showing this type of hunting, seems impossible how you are able to spot them in the deep woods. A skill indeed
It's exciting but tough to get it all together without alot of ran off deer! Some would consider it for lack of better word juvenile in a beginner hunting mastery arc! It's more philosophy or preference of what the individual wants for his or her experiences! To each their own I reckon days like that are super pumped though!
Hey i know that is tough i do some of that here in the mts of TN. Love all the videos you have done over the years. The late season can bring some surprises . Thanks! I replayed that scenario all night thinking what I could've done differently. I really don't think there was much else I could do. Hopefully see him in flintlock season.
I remember back in the early 2000's ish right in the height of rifle season November in Missouri it got unseasonably Hot and it didn't even feel like deer season at all. So I drove my truck out into the middle of the CRP climbed up in the bed of the truck and sat my butt down on a beer cooler. I know don't judge, I wasn't drinking and hunting but that was the only thing I had to sit on. On top of not seeing a single deer, not even a doe and I wouldn't have shot a deer even if one came out. The horse flies were absolutely brutal and I finally went back to deer camp and broke into that cold beer cooler. That was one of the worst deer seasons that I can ever remember.
Lol, we talked about that one night. It's not that we are afraid of blood. It's just we don't want to clean blood up on all our equipment and vehicles from all the handling.

How’d Ron do this year?
just one doe
John I’m with ya, no way do you want to take a chance and wound that buck! Too risky. Not worth it imo. Too much respect for those mature deer
👍
Have any more blaze hats
Not currently but hope to change that.
if its a legal buck to harvest in your state, up to you! What's up with the location, did you have permission where you shot the deer?
How much land do you have to hunt?
About 275.
