    That “New Guy” you were following was a childhood friend of mine, he is the reason I’m debating on leaving construction and moving to the fire line

      @troywood7170 We usually do, but the fire wasn't intense and the chief ranger was swamping for him.

    That old 15 is like a battle ax. It cuts through pretty much everything. Got enough power and weight to not deflect off stuff but just lay it aside. Been through Fargo many years ago. It don't change much does it. Hope the new guy stays with it and makes you a good operator. He has a good teacher...

      It's a powerful dozer, for sure. Fargo is still fargo. Far to go to get there. 🤣 new guy seems to be enjoying it.

    I show these videos to my international friends. one stated about the plowing messing up the forest floor. I told them its better to push up the brush and make a "road" that will eventually grow back over, as opposed to having everything burn

    • @Wildland_Firefighter
      @Wildland_Firefighter  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can always rehab the firebreak.

    • @Shifffyy
      @Shifffyy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And prior to civilization, it’s normal for forests to have fires that burn up underbrush and sometimes burns all timber. It’s a natural part of the forest. So all of the forest floor would normally burn.

    • @Wildland_Firefighter
      @Wildland_Firefighter  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Shifffyy But we want to reduce the risk of a wildfire. Prescribed burns would be better as they don't get as intense as a wildfire.

      @@Wildland_Firefighter absolutely. Thinning out under brush, trimming low hanging branches to prevent crowning, etc, All a part of good forest stewardship and fire prevention

    Them ole 750 are hard to beat! The Fact that almost all the units still has a TD-15 is something to say for them as well.

    • @Wildland_Firefighter
      @Wildland_Firefighter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, we just have 2 TD-15s left. Mine here and one in another county. The 750c and 750j do work good. We're supposedly getting a new 750L soon

      @@Wildland_FirefighterI have pushed line with 850k in south Florida and with a d6 high track and I believe the d6 was stronger , obviously slower. But as far as comfort , I would go with the 850 . But it’s all depends on fuel type.Love your channel , from a fellow tractor plow operator. And another thing I know that our 850 would probably not do as good plowing and pushing like this tractor. But we have straight blades and some 4 disc fesco plow that I love on the 650 j we run.. because you don’t have to sink it .

      Thanks for watching! Based on what state you're in, you can apply with a State Forestry agency or get on with the Feds like at the US Forest Service.

    why did they change the name from Controlled burn to Prescribed burn ?

    • @Wildland_Firefighter
      @Wildland_Firefighter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I call them both. I guess prescribed burn sounds better because you're going by a prescription that you planned based on the weather forecast to do your burn in.

      @@Wildland_Firefighter right on boss. I'm a FF in FL on the structural side, some old cat was telling me that they lost control of some so they renamed them prescribed. It sounds not as bad on the news.

    Yep, dozer crew can be like a line crew everyone walks along and improves the line (by inches or feet) here and there, and before you know it there is a nice fire break or road bed carved out. WishI could see what the guy on the radio is talking about. I suspect it is coming through on time delay.

    That is some THICK fuel, do you guys ever cut a line further back and let it burn? That looks like a California scale disaster waiting to happen.

    • @Wildland_Firefighter
      @Wildland_Firefighter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We try to get on the fire and get it plowed out as quick as possible before it forms a big head fire and turns into a crown fire. we do back burns on bigger wildfires if we have to.
